I'm sure there is something really intelligent and so very witty to say about this album. It's so meaty, and so stunning, and you can sink your teeth into each song and be so rewarded for the second, third, tenth, millionth listen. But the one thought that I'm struck by right now is just this joy, this absolute pleasure at seeing Hozier's maturation and evolution as an artist, at witnessting him step into his talent and claim his little niche of the world with confidence. There's so much stark clarity about this album that leaves me in awe, simply glad that the man who said "we tried the world, good god, it wasn't for us" is allowing himself to be a part of the world, and in turn letting us into his own little corner of it. What a gift. What an honor

“let people enjoy things” but the thing is that cultural writers and even general criticism of something you like doesn’t mean you have to feel any differently about it. not everything is about you. read it or don’t. agree with it or don’t. ignore it or don’t. but taking it personally helps no one, least of all you, and only adds to the weird cultish fandom fervor that leads to people getting doxxed, writing articles anonymously, and leads to making people who even are in the fandom who want to critique things feel or be literally ostracized and othered. and it’s just nastiness and becomes very us vs. them, no, i’m enlightened because i read this piece of media in this way, and you’re wrong, because you interpret it that way. saying that not enjoying something is ruining someone else’s time is just a little pathetic, because anyone else’s enjoyment or criticism or even downright hatred shouldn’t impact you and your own feelings about something.

Why Would You Be Loved is the anti-No Plan. They're in conversation with each other.

One asks "why would you love and care and create and try to help others when there is always going to be suffering and pain and the death of everything?"

And the other asks "why would you wallow in the suffering and pain and death when you could love? everything is going to end anyway."

The many faces of Andrew Hozier-Byrne! Drew these from his interview with Lewis Howes which was so lovely! Also if you haven’t listened to Wasteland, Baby! Extended, go do it 🫵

crazy how hozier compared the fact he couldn't tell his relationship was failing because he was too blinded by love to the idea that icarus could not tell he was dying because he was too enamoured by the sun and we were supposed to just carry on living like everything's normal.
