***JUNE 2019 UPDATE - need just a little more help***

He graduated with his nursing degree, he successfully passed multiple exams and got his official nursing license!!! And he finally has found a job! He is starting a full time job at Kaduha Distrcit hospital on June 17 (a week from now), but he is very low on money. He needs some money to pay for a rent for a small room there and for transportation to actually get to the new district where he will be working. We hope that this will be the very last ask for help! Daniel’s new job will pay well but he will only start receiving his salary in July.

Daniel needs about $100-150 for rent, transportation and some basic items for his new home so he can cook at home rather than buy food. There are pictures of his license, graduation, and his job offer in the fundraiser.

As a reminder, this is continuous fundraiser, so every time that we’ve needed to raise money, I send it to Daniel as soon as possible, so the sum you see that has been raised is what has been raised over 4 years. I hope this will be the last time we ask for donations and I can close to gofundme after!

Please donate and reblog!

ISLAND QUEERNESS: EXPLORING LGBT+ TAIWAN - EPISODE 1

I am thrilled to be sharing the first episode of my documentary on the Taiwanese LGBT+ community!!!

Episode 1 is an engaging introduction to our project and Taiwan’s history with LGBT+ issues. The episode seeks to sctach the surface to the questions of “Is Taiwanese society accepting of queer people? Why or why not? What drives homophobia in Taiwan?”. It features Legislator Yu Mei Nu and Chi Chia-wei, along with a social worker from Rainbow Queer, and a number of other activists. The docu-series will explore a variety of topics related to the Taiwanese queer community, from social perceptions, to legal matters, intra-community issues, HIV and education. The series is based on interviews, observations and analysis conducted during a two week trip in May 2017 sponsored by Ohio Wesleyan University.

So much work went into this - please, please, please reblog and share with others!

massacre

the Syrian dictator Assad, along with Putin, are about to completely massacre an entire city - Aleppo. the Syrian army has taken over 98% of the city. families are sitting together, praying, knowing any minute will be their last minute on earth. civilians are tweeting their last goodbyes, sending out last minute pleas for someone, anyone, to help.

imagine that. sitting with the people you love, holding each other, hearing nothing but their harsh breathing and the clash of bombs completely destroying your home, killing your neighbors, your friends, you. just imagine that. i cant, i really cannot.

the U.N. has already called Syria the worst humanitarian crisis in this century. experts are saying this massacre rivals that of WW2 (not to take away from the holocaust) in terms of how heinous and completely disgusting it is.

i’m not the best with words, with conveying me emotions. but please take a moment out of your time to acknowledge this, at least. this is the worst humanitarian crisis happening on Earth right now, according to the U.N. this is a breach of human rights, of all our rights. you should be concerned, in the least.

Call the White House: (202) 456-1111 or (202) 456-1414 Call State Department: (202) 647-2670

Ask that Obama DEMAND a Syrian and Russian cease fire and DEMAND forces be sent to safely and peacefully escort families out of Aleppo.

Daniel Niyonshuti is a wonderful person who is struggling to pay for his Nursing degree at the University of Rwanda. Daniel lost his parents in the Rwandan genocide in 1994 and spent his entire childhood on the streets, sleeping under bridges, begging and feeding on scraps he found in the trash. Aid workers helped him start school and since then he has worked very hard on getting his education and pursuing his dream of becoming a doctor through his dedicated work and strong faith in God.

Daniel was accepted into the University of Rwanda’s Nursing program and thanks to generous donations, was able to complete his first year with near excellent grades! He has been allowed to continue to his second year, but is finding himself about $200 short on being able to pay his registration fee for the year, his first tuition installment and some living costs, so he needs our help!

Daniel has been incredibly grateful for all donations! Those of you who leave personal messages, be sure I relay those to him and it gives him so much hope and happiness! Thorughout the second semester of his first year, Daniel participated in a hospital internship and passed all his exams successfully. He was working as much as he could on the side, in order to save up money, and was able to cover a portion of his expenses but still needs our help, so please donate! He only needs about $200 to cover his first installment!

This is a new, update post on Daniel, so even if you’ve shared before, please share again! The GoFundMe page has more detailed updates and pictures, as well as proof about Daniel’s studies!

Here are some recent pictures of Daniel:

Thailand’s controversial Tiger Temple is losing its tigers.

The monastery and popular tourist attraction, the focus of allegations of animal abuse and trafficking for 15 years, was raided this week by authorities who planned to remove all 137 tigers held at the temple, three hours northwest of Bangkok.

The tiger attraction gained worldwide attention as a place where visitors could pet, feed, bathe, and walk the cats around on leashes, snapping selfies along the way. It has been a gold mine to the monastery, which is formally known as Wat Pa Luangta Bua Yannasampanno, bringing in an estimated three million dollars a year.

But conservation organizations and former temple workers have long accused the temple’s monks of keeping the cats in jail-like enclosures, feeding them poorly, and physically abusing them. Critics also have accused the temple of trafficking endangered species in violation of Thai wildlife laws and an international treaty. The temple’s monks have rejected accusations regarding their care of the tigers, saying they have done nothing wrong. (…)

On Monday Thailand’s Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation began removing the tigers, an operation that required about 500 people. On Wednesday, after officials had tranquilized and removed six tigers that had been set loose in the temple’s kitchen facilities, they investigated a tip from a temple volunteer and made a stunning discovery.

Inside an industrial-size freezer they found the bodies of 40 frozen tiger cubs, all one to seven days old.

They’d been dead for no more than two days, said Adisorn Nuchdumrong, the wildlife department’s deputy director. (..)

But at the time the wildlife department lacked the facilities and know-how to care for the tigers, he said, so the monastery was allowed to keep them—with orders not to breed or make money from them. The monks ignored the directive, and the department turned a blind eye. The venue grew into a lucrative tourist hot spot, and by April 2015 the tiger population had soared to 147, according to the wildlife department.

Then, in December 2014, three adult male tigers vanished from the temple, animals that were microchipped and registered with the government. An ongoing, 16-month investigation by local police into the animals’ disappearance has not produced any charges.

Other pending cases against the temple include unlawful possession of sixAsian black bears and 38 rare hornbills and other birds—animals seized by federal wildlife officials in two separate raids in the spring of 2015. Two Asiatic golden jackals and two Malayan porcupines, seen at the temple during an inspection, disappeared before officials arrived to seize them and the birds.
