#tbt 📷: @jasonmyersphoto a month ago we dug in for 6 days at @southerngroundnashville_ to begin work on my 2nd album. this shot was taken during setup & is the only non-Polaroid photo from the whole 6 days except for "before” & “after” shots of the whole crew. it’s gonna be a while longer before this music reaches the outside world, but I am already so excited to share these songs with y'all. thanks for all the support 👍🏼 (at Southern Ground Nashville)

I said goodbye to my 20s recording guitars at midnight with one of my longest-standing friends @dukerr at legendary Sound Emporium. I am truly blessed by the family, friends, and life I've been given. thanks for all the kind birthday wishes!

I just spent an hour in the Ernest Tubb Record Shop building in downtown Nashville. this is a picture from the storage room in the basement. the piano in the back was used on the legendary Midnite Jamboree radio show (second in longevity only to the Opry). to the right you can see the original sign from the store front, featuring Ernest Tubb's image. this room was once used as a morgue during the Civil War, when the building was converted from a hotel to a wartime hospital. before the building was built this was also where Andrew Jackson parked his horses. crazy, right? thank God for country music crown jewels like this old place. if you visit Nashville, please make time to step inside the Ernest Tubb Record Shop.

OFFICIAL CAPTION: struggling to find the proper words to describe this weekend with @vincegillmusic @ashleymonroemusic @realjennygill & band. the finest bunch of talent with whom I've ever been associated. top notch crew, lovely audiences, & unreal memories. the music we made & stories we shared will be a highlight of my life & career long after I'm gone. thank you, Vince Gill, for your immense talent & even more incredible generosity. BONUS TUMBLR CAPTION: since this is Tumblr, and there's room to elaborate... I want to take a minute to talk about the band. Billy Thomas on drums, an absolute gem. bedrock-deep groove man with a mile-smile & scary sense of humor. Then there's Willie Weeks, whose credits span from George Harrison to the Doobie Brothers to Joe Walsh to.. actually it'd be a shorter list to mention the 3 acts he hasn't made music with. not to mention his beautiful laughter. Paul. M&@/$-F'!?".. Franklin. I argue one of the top 5 musical spirits to walk this earth. kiss my ass if you don't agree. and Tim Akers. Tim is no new kid on the block, but it was fun being on this gig for the first time with him, cause it was his first time on this particular gig too, and he absolutely slayed it. go see his band "The Smoking Section" when you get a chance. I also want to recognize the crew, who I wish I'd gotten to know better. Rip & Benny held down the fort in guitar tech world.. if you need a road rig built go see Rip (Ripper - Google that for road rigs, that's the company name). I mean, if it's good enough for Vinny.. then there's Benny, who's been with Vince since day one. a rock solid dude and a sweet sweet spirit. Josh, the equivalent of a navy seal behind the monitor console. Weston & the other guys from the Randy Houser crew.. so good to see those familiar faces again on the road. seriously, yall, I could write a book on everything I learned this week. I will figure out a way to share more with yall soon. peace, Charlie (photo by @WillieMcNabb )

Why Spotify?

If you follow me on any social media, you've probably noticed that I've been talking a lot about Spotify lately. The truth is, I'm hooked on it. A few weeks ago, I started a playlist called "Bus Jams" - a constantly evolving playlist of what we listen to on the road. I love that fans tweet me suggestions for songs to check out. I love that in the course of a given night, we will listen to everything from Merle Haggard to Lupe Fiasco to The Wallflowers to Stevie Wonder.

Is Spotify perfect? No. But I don't want to have that conversation right now. Instead, I want to talk about all the great music (and music fans) that I've discovered through Spotify since I became a paid subscriber last year.

You're gonna hear a lot more from me about Spotify in 2015. I encourage you to sign up and give Spotify a chance. You can get 30 days of the paid version for free, kinda like Netflix. Find my profile, follow me, check out my playlists, and be a part of music discovery with me. I have lots of fun ideas that I'm gonna introduce throughout the year, and I want you to be a part of it! Here's how you can join:

one of my favorite things to do after a show is to post up in the back lounge of the bus and blast tunes while we ride through the night. now you can join me & listen to what I'm listening to.. and of course feel free to tweet me songs you're digging or better yet, send them to me on Spotify directly!

I love this quote from Gen. Douglas MacArthur. this is exactly what I believe when I say there are some things you've gotta be young to see.

Follow Me?

I’m curious if you agree or disagree with me on this, but does it not defeat the purpose of being followed on Twitter/Instagram/etc if you ask for it?

I personally believe it would mean a lot more if someone chose to follow me by their own volition.

Also, let’s not forget the value of likes, favorites, comments, shares and such. I love that Taylor Swift finds random people to connect with on Instagram. As a fan, I would prefer that kind of attention to what I call the “hollow follow.”

y’all please comment on this and let me know your thoughts.. and maybe follow me on Tumblr??? hahaha just kidding ;)

To Be Pranked Is To Be Loved

last night I walked off the Country Nation stage for the last time in beautiful Bristow, Virginia. The stage floor was littered with rubber bands, I had a “Kick Me” sign taped to my back, Alex and Brad were wrapped in toilet paper, and Scott’s snare head was coated with baby powder that exploded in a white cloud when he hit the snare for the first chorus of “Could It Be.” Needless to say, we got pranked pretty bad. Which is great.

I was laughing and holding back tears all at once, already knowing how much I was gonna miss everyone. I want to send out a global THANK YOU to all the fine men and women on this tour, especially our friends on the crews who work harder than most people ever realize. I can’t believe it’s been four months… felt more like three weeks.

The CMT Tour kicks off in just a few days, and I bet it goes by just as lightning fast as this last tour did. Gonna try to soak up the memories as best as I can.
