Spicy-brained friends, I would like to propose an update to the very useful ‘if you hate everyone, eat, if everyone hates you, sleep, and if you hate yourself, shower’ mantra to live by

Have you suddenly become a petty, hateful little gremlin who thinks people should face the firing squad for (checks notes) leaving teabags on the counter, breathing loudly, or daring to exist in the same space as you? Perhaps mundane and reasonable requests like ‘hey, we agreed to hang out now, let’s hang out’ make you want to scream and move to a yurt in the woods.

You. Are. Overstimulated.

People talk a lot about being overstimulated, and the physical/mental effects of it. What I haven’t seen is people talking about what it does emotionally, and it took me an embarassingly long time to link up those nitpicky, resentful emotions with the state of overstimulation/meltdown/shutdown.

These feelings do not mean that you’re a bad person! They probably aren’t how you actually feel about the people around you. They probably do mean that your nervous system is at its absolute limit and any request/demand/stimulus is Too Much and taking you into fight or flight territory.

Go lie down in a dark room for an hour, or find somewhere safe and familiar to stim for a bit. If it’s happening a lot, schedule yourself regular low-stimulation shutdown time

It doesn’t add any energy, it just temporarily stops your brain from being able to process how tired you are. Which is why you crash later! Because your brain’s receptors wake up and are like “BITCH why didn’t my alarm go off look at all this goddamn paperwork??”

It’s such a weird thing. What we call “tired” is the brain creating a small dose of “tired chemical” every hour or so. Once there’s enough tired chemical, the brain goes into sleep mode to clean itself out (we… think) and it gets rid of all the tired chemical.

This is why you can oversleep and feel tired: the brain has started to make the tired chemical again while you were sleeping. But it’s also why caffeine is so bonkers. Caffeine works by blocking the tired receptor in your brain, so you keep making tired chemical but you don’t know you’re making it.

If you don’t have enough tired chemical, you can introduce diphenhydramine. Diphenhydramine - sold in the U.S. as Benadryl - acts by blocking histamine receptors in the same part of the brain as where the wake-sleep cycle is regulated, so this can make the brain think it’s got a bunch of tired chemical on those receptors. And once the sleep cycle is activated, the body dramatically reduces its histamine response, so the whole meme about “Benadryl: You Can’t Sneeze When You’re Dead” is actually pretty accurate as to how diphenhydramine works.

It also means that if you, say, take twice the recommended dose of diphenhydramine and wash it down with a 16 ounce Red Bull because you’ve got to help your parents who have a dog and a cat move out of their dusty house (and you’re allergic to dogs, cats, and dust), you’re going to be very productive for a couple hours and then you are going to pass out for fourteen hours and have some incredible dreams.

This is really interesting to read about as someone who has chronic fatigue from a disability. It kinda suggests something is happening (or not happening) in the brain that prevents fully cleaning up the tired chemical, or perhaps the receptors being overly sensitive to any presence of it.

Another symptom of what I have is brain fog, which they recently discovered is linked to an “allergy-like” immune system reaction (often cause by illness/infection crossing the blood brain barrier) that causes swelling in the brain.

One of them is now harassing me as well on EoT's behest. EoT and I both run divergent Necromancer subspecies. I have avoided EoT's subspecies because I am avoiding the creator. I expected the same basic courtesy of being left alone. EoT decided because my sub was pretty they wanted them. I was extremely unnerved and upset by this as I had done everything in my power to stay away from them and they had once again crossed my boundaries. I went to the server and made a call out post on June 24th 2021 before I understood clearly how blocking works on FR. I rejoined the server on the 26th because if they were going to continue the harassment what was the point of not engaging with the community I enjoy. IT should be noted that they said hello to me and I said hello back. EoT posted a call out post against me that was removed on the same day. They contacted a moderator to send me an apology and I agreed to speak with them personally. I love how you’re acting like O harrassed you when you literally caused them - at the time a 16 year old, you’re fucking 30, grow up - to have a massive panic attack because they made the decision to give a dragon to the person they believed won an event instead of giving it to you. That’s why so many people in the community hate and distrust you. You entered the community with harrassment and you have done nothing but continue this behavior and turn it around on your victim(s), including that cute little name drop you did in another salt post.

And then instead of apologizing, you seriously thought that giving them valuable dragons was an acceptable alternative. As if giving someone a gift in any way amounts to a proper apology. They’re terrified of you and have done everything they can to avoid you while still partaking in the community since that, but you constantly find ways to fuck them up worse like including them in this post. 

EoT isn’t the only one on FR who “lovebombs” and you seriously think that counts as them grooming? That’s laughable. Don’t fucking make accusations like this without better proof. It’s incredibly disrespectful to those of us who have actually been harmed by grooming, especially when we have screenshots of your SO pressuring people, including minors, and trying to get them to “admit” EoT makes them uncomfortable :) Not a good look for either of you. Grooming isn’t only done through “positive” behavior. It’s also done by putting pressure on your victim to do the “right” thing or “admit” things to you even if they don’t actually feel the way you’re telling them they do. You’re their confidant, right? You’re a safe person, they can tell you anything - even if you manipulated them into saying it.

This is getting ridiculous. I am W from Wind and EssayofThoughts and OzziePhobia have been harassing me and others for being friends with me. This began with a misunderstanding about a contest 2 years ago for which I have repeatedly apologized, given gifts and thought I had actually stepped past but apparently not. The grooming accusation is true. I absolutely said that. Because Essay has repeatedly acted in a manipulative manner towards minors including engaging in a young minor in a discussion about kink in a public server and sending harassing dms on Discord when I asked the subject be changed. They continued said behaviors publicly after being asked to stop by the admin team.

They have displayed racist behavior, abused their admin position, were repeatedly asked by moderators to leave me alone and instead sought out conversations I was in. When they asked for a private moderated chat they accused me of gaslighting them over one word. They have apologized for none of this to me and have continued to put me in uncomfortable situations for over two years as I tried my best to stay away from them.

OzziePhobia had priorly block dodged myself and another person who donated a G2 dragon prize Necrotober discord event which I was running. Candymarwhal helped them block dodge in my case and we don't know who helped them in the other person's case. They have bullied people for dragons before and generally engaged in harassing behavior backed by EssayofThoughts harassing down people who objected. Ozzie was not in the server when the Necrotober began and rejoined a few days in along with other people who have caused issues in the server prior.

As a precaution I set a rule that people who were blocked by myself or prize donator could not win prizes. This put out one person who had stated an intention to enter from winning one prize. The entire server mod team agreed the rules were reasonable as was tthe concern. The intent to stay within FR ToS and keep bullying from happening. I let everyone know my DMs were open. Four people felt it was appropriate to go to 3 who runs the subspecies but not the server. 3 has alot going on IRL and has been trying for the entire time to be fair and stay neutral but EssayofThoughts, OzziePhobia and others have continued the drama. 3 chose this path and I support them on it. I'm looking forward to running a game hub for next year's Necrotober without having to worry about this issue.

I haven't openly talked about the harassment prior to this because 3 and all the server admins are my good friends (one is my spouse of over a decade. Essay told them I was abusing them after talking to me one time.) I didn't want to put my friends in the position of having to take sides. But clearly that's not going to work anymore. I'm not a perfect person, but I'm not the instigator here and I am damn sick of the lying. I have screenshots from discord and FR for all of this that I'll be putting into a folder and submitting to the blog.

I like doing commissions on FR because there’s a small enough player base that art shops aren’t too oversaturated so my art is Pretty Good By FR Artist Standards, and while the amount people on FR are willing to pay isn’t the best, there’s a handful of people willing to dish out $50+ on art for their funky little dragons- I need all of you to know that I love you and I love the fact that I can get commissions so quickly here <3

Like at least 75% of the dragons I get asked to draw are skydancers, the twinkiest dragons. The other 20% are imperials and wildclaws, which are twunks at best. *sobbing* and not once have I been commissioned to draw a snapper or a ridgeback or a bog.

I can draw skydancers from memory now; I do not like skydancers. I loved skydancers when I started FR, now I despise them.  I am so tired of their weird bird faces, their weird twiggy legs, their horrible feet, their fucked-up necks, and most of all, their awful, awful wings. I can’t even put scales on those bitches! Why are they smooth!! They’re dragons!!! Dragons shouldn’t be smooth!!!! FUck off!!!

When I get humans they’re also nearly always conventionally attractive twinks. I can draw hunks and bears, guys. I can draw milfs. I can draw fat people. I can draw buff lesbians. (I can especially draw buff lesbians.) I’ve got those examples in my art shop. You people know I can draw more than twinks. I can draw fat dragons and buff dragons and pointy scary dragons. I wish I felt like I belonged in any part of FR groups, at all.

I tried the G1 hell server, and felt very alienated/ignored in that group no matter what I posted. I was in the AAA discord for UMA and also felt alienated there.

It wasn’t like I never spoke, either. I tried on the daily to post things, WIPs of an accent/skin, G1’s I’ve bought or wanted help with planning genes/outfits for, questions, everything. Little to no response. Someone who’s in the “inside” group could come in and post just an emoji and immediately get a ton of meme and/or real responses mere minutes after mine.

I don’t know. I’ve been on FR for many years and I’ve always felt like I’m not “in” with any community or group. And honestly, it’s tiring and it’s made me debate leaving several times, but I love my dragons and the work I’ve put into them, so I stay. I’m not asking to be on a pedestal or anything, just…some mild engagement would be nice every now and again, I guess.

Anon and saltmin! Let me tell you about subspecies! I have made more friends in the last year than I have in the last ten getting into subspecies. Not just collecting but creating, writing lore, making art, and chilling on discord. I totally recommend 3idolon's Necromancers for the community on FR, they have a discord and the mods are awesome! There's even a fun point collecting minigame that helps you build lore! I'll also invite you to check out my Sages MG subspecies! It's baby but has lots of lore, regular contests, games and updates. There's an active chill little discord too. Subspecies is definitely a collecting type of play but there's alot to choose from and alot of fun to be had!

White people: if you want to help long term: get used to being told your opinion is wrong, irrelevant, or unwanted. Tell your friends to get used to it. Work on getting used to it and do this work with other white people. Because white supremacy has all of y’all very used  to being right and being an inherently valued voice and if we’re going to fight white supremacy you’re going to have to be comfortable surrendering that expectation and also white people will need to learn how to handle being rejected or disagreed with. It’s an extension of racism and racial trauma for black people to try and educate or speak up about our issues only to expose ourselves to your white fragility which  makes you defensive– this defensiveness can look like shutting down, silencing us, painting all corrections or disagreements as ‘fighs’ (extending the idea that black people are aggressive) etc.

White resilience is the opposite of white fragility and black people are VERY good at resilience, unfortunately. Listen to us we know how to combat this.

I have been on this site firmly yelling about social justice for years and haven’t received quite so many upset asks for at least 3 or so until I made this post. Multiple white people have messaged me or replied saying that it’s invalid, ‘racist’ or simply unfair to suggest that white people by virtue of being white may share a common problem. Y'all really do not want to understand that racism is systemic (sidenote, this is why NOTHING I say about you as a group qualifies as racism) and that you are ALL part of the system. It is not possible to fight racism but not address how you perpetuate white supremacy. White people: ask yourself why you are so upset by the idea that your whiteness is under critique. Ask yourself why you feel so comfortable telling the victims of racism how they should (and should not) fight racism. Funny that it makes you uncomfortable to think that perhaps your skin color may, in some cases, render your viewpoint…less than relevant. 

Ask yourself why you are flinching and knee jerking at the idea that you may have to give up the privilege of having your voice ALWAYS being accepted and centered. Ask yourself why you think it’s unfair and upsetting that white people’s voices are going to need to be lessened if there is to be real equality. If you think this suggestion to learn to be open to and to accept being wrong, being told you need to listen and not speak, in order to balance the supremacy of white voices and white opinions; if you think this is too ‘rude’ or ‘racist’ or whatever, I want you to understand that that’s white supremacy talking. This is white fragility talking– the slightest suggestion that you may need to examine and surrender social privileges unevenly heaped in your favor has you automatically shutting down and silencing me. So this is me, telling you again: you are wrong more often than you know. And it’s time to accept that if you want to learn and grow. White people: learn to accept being wrong. Learn to accept being questioned and doubted– and learn to question and doubt yourself; ask if you’re thinking critically or just repeating racist shit you’ve heard all your goddamn lives.

well now I wonder how you put her back down, do you just get as close to where you wanna put her without smooshing anyone, then let go?, does she fall through the other bees do they move aside or is she just held there now, I know swarming bees are pretty chill so you could scoop the, m off with your other hand, but idk how clingy they are and I’m in the mind of that video of the Chinese zookeeper trying to clean up a panda habitat, insects, Queue87.

disclaimer: i am not a beekeeper. i just like bees a lot and occasionally go through spasms of bee research wishing i could keep bees, though for Reasons i can’t. ok so as i understand it, hives swarm when their population gets too big. they feed some female larvae royal jelly, which makes them grow up to be queens, and then they take some of the hive with them and go off to find a new living situation. unfortunately, most swarms don’t find a good spot, and die off. that’s nature for ya. it’s one of the reasons beekeepers take honey; surplus honey encourages swarming, and you lose a lot of your bees.

but ok, say your hive swarms and you want this. you have space for them and you want a new hive. when the new queen emerges, you find her, pick her up – people usually use a container of some kind to avoid accidentally hurting her, but if you’re gentle you can just hold her in your hand like this guy. you take her to where you’ve prepared an empty hive and let her go, she inspects it and declares it good, and they all move in! new hive established!

the bees don’t particularly want to stay on you. you’re just scenery. they’re waiting on the boss to find a housing solution. so when she does, they go with her, and you just walk away.

maybe with an extra check through your hair and shirt in case some silly babies dozed off in there. :D

Bees transmit their hormone through touch and it only takes a minute of the ‘pulse’ of hormone to be missing before they notice. It’ll be the mother queen who has been laying eggs in a hive for a while who leaves as her hormones are stronger. When she lands somewhere the other bees will ‘ball’ up around her to keep her warm (or possibly kill her if they decide to) in the centre of the swarm. If he has a hive box ready, he can just open his hand over the top or at the entrance of the box and she’ll march right in over everyone else because she’ll be looking for a dark hole to hide in, his fist is perfectly dark and warm to keep her safe.
