Our #tribblemaker day was great fun! Students in the Learning Commons stopped by to take a Break from Busyness and stitch up a tribble to help fill the tribble case in the 50 Years of Star Trek exhibition.

I’ll be in the Learning Commons all week 12PM-3PM if you’re local and you want to make a tribble.

You’ll get a #tribblemaker button and one entry to win the life size Kirk cutout that is in the tribble case in the exhibition.

Im sure Im not the first person to make this, but it always tickles me how Janeway is the only one to ever have a realistic reaction to discovering some kind of paradox

The Duty Bound, a picspam.

I decided to do a picspam after realizing the similarities in the relationships between two different sets of spaceparents. Janeway/Chakotay of Star Trek: Voyager and Roslin/Adama from Battlestar Galactica. Voyager is on the left or top and Battlestar is on the right or bottom.

//

This is the story of the duty bound leaders who are forced to work together in order to find Earth. They have a rocky relationship at times, (especially at first) but eventually they settle into a deep friendship. Which eventually gives way to mutual attraction and love.

One day there was a disaster, many lives were lost and they were a long way from Earth. They had to blend their crews and work together in order to survive.

These are the leaders of the crews, otherwise known as the mom and dad of the fleet.

At the very top we have the red head, who is often underestimated. She shows her unique ability to command under the bleak circumstances that they are thrown into. She is known as the velvet glove in the iron fist. Due to her position in the fleet she can’t allow herself to become attached to others, so she really doesn’t have many personal relationships.

Next in command, we have the stoic who (as it turns out) is really a big sotfy. Despite him being a leader (and probably due to his own personality) he has much closer relationships amongst the crews, than she does. At times he follows his heart instead of his head. Which can be a weakness and a strength.

The man isn’t so sure of the woman’s ability at first. She pulls a brilliant power move in order for him to acknowledge her position. This move causes him to start to respect her, even if they still are wary of each other.

Due to their positions in the fleet they share the burdens and loneliness of command. Because of that forced shared position they come to rely on one another. That eventually develops into a close friendship.

Eventually it became clear that there was a definite attraction between the two.

Due to their differences in personality and perspectives they have some pretty nasty arguments. Once they become close, those fights really started to hurt.

There was that time he put her in the brig.

One of them is spiritual.

The other is a hardcore atheist.

He likes to box. Most of the time he’s quite good at it, though once he did have his ass handed to him.

Kate Vernon came on to him and tried to manipulate him. He was very aware of that and treaded very carefully. Turns out she wasn’t really human.

They share a love of literature.

During their travels they encounter a planet and through various means are forced to settle on it. They are no longer bound by the burdens of command and their relationship is allowed to develop into something more intimate.

They flirt shamelessly, he ogles her.

They acknowledge the attraction and feelings between them but ultimately they leave the planet and are forced back into their positions of command.

He is romantic and sentimental.  He gives her gifts.

She’s pragmatic and a realist. She gives them back.

She realizes just how much he meant to her.

In the end the finally reached Earth, but realized that home was in their hearts and their relationships with each other. That it wasn’t about the destination but the journey. That home wasn’t a place but a longing or a connection.

The End.

Star Trek Captains Cooking Skills:

Kirk: quite good actually (probably prepares a romantic dinner for himself and his vulcan boyfriend once in a while)
Picard: probably never even touched any kind of kitchen utensils
Sisko: fabulous
Janeway: -200

It tells you everything about how much Janeway/Chakotay makes me feel like a teenager all over again, that I am listening to shit I was obsessed with at 18 and relating it to them.

Fucking Endgame man…

Might as well punch myself in the feels repeatedly.

How to be the most professional and not reveal any sexual tension as a command team:

(Intentionally not using any casual/off duty/near death scenes or shippy episodes.  The idea is to get a sense of day to day behaviors.)

Hello person who I was fighting ten seconds ago, welcome into my personal bubble.

This is totally how everyone discusses command decisions right?

Standard Starfleet Protocol: In hostile territory, the captain and the first officer should remain close enough to each other to both be blown up by the same mine.

Differences of opinion regarding command decisions should always be resolved in close body proximity.

The most professional way of standing next to your captain is so close that you’d be bumping shoulders if your whole body wasn’t turned towards her as usual.

Mirror each other’s body posture and press your hips together, to give a clear message of a unified command team.

Holy crap, this is so good!

This!!

World Read Aloud Day Feb. 24

Chelsie/Downton Fans!!  I need your help!  I am putting together a video archive for my students in grades K-5.  I am the Technology Facilitator, which basically  means I keep all the computers, printers, ipads and various other forms of technology working properly and I teach the teachers & students how to use it. I work very closely with the Media Specialist (what we used to call the Librarian).  We wanted to ask you all a favor.  You see, Feb. 24th is World Read Aloud Day.  During the entire month of February, we try to get as many people as we can to record themselves reading a favorite Children’s book or Poem (K-5 appropriate please!) and send us the video and we are starting to collect videos NOW! You can just record it on your phone if you like.  The children would be so very excited to get videos from all over the world!  We’re trying to make an archive for future use.  This is not for any type of profit, simply for our students and teachers to use in class. It’s funny the worlds I float between…Technology and Reading.  Technology so often trumps reading and that’s sad.  We’re doing all we can to combine the two and get more kids excited about reading.  If you can help us we would be extremely honored!  You can send in a video two different ways.  You can attach it to an email and send it to amy.york@nhcs.net  or upload it to a shared folder we have in Google Drive if it’s too large to email by going to this address http://tinyurl.com/WBSreads.  Should you need any additional info or assistance you can email me at the above email address and I’ll be happy to help any way I can.  Thank you for helping us!!

And if you could reblog this for me that would be SO appreciated!! 😊
