“If you could make a wish upon a shooting star, what would you wish for?”
“Hmm…a few things come to mind.” Alistair replied.
“Allow me a guess! A lifetime of endless cheese wheels?” Bridget giggled.
Alistair grinned and laughed.
“No…something even better.” He said softly as a deep blush creeped into his cheeks.
Bridget raised her eyebrows.
“What could possibly be better than a lifetime of cheese?”
Alistair looked into her sea blue eyes and smiled shyly.
“A lifetime with you.”
It was Bridget’s turn to blush now. She averted her eyes and looked back up into the twinkling stars. Wouldn’t you know a shooting star zoomed across the sky in that exact moment. Bridget grinned and took a deep breath. Realistically, she didn’t know if she was making the right choice, but for now, in this moment, she would allow herself to be happy.
“What a coincidence…I would wish for the same thing. With you.”
A large and goofy grin erupted across Alistair’s face. The two friends, now lover, leaned forward and finally, after weeks of second guesses, of trying to discern their feelings, of being at war with themselves over whether they should or should not follow their hearts…
Their lips met in a soft and tender kiss. It was that kiss that would be their undoing. That kiss would now bind them together for the rest of their lives. For Bridget and Alistair, there was no one else. There would be no one else. Only each other. The fireflies were the only witnesses to their kiss. Though they knew they would not be able to keep this from their friends for long, they took solace in this stolen moment where it was just the two of them and no one else.
