All the stories feature queer characters living their lives to the fullest, and—best of all—there are no tragic endings.

Dates 3: Thumbnails!

We’re almost two weeks into our Kickstarter campaign for Dates 3 and that means it’s time to turn our chairs around and talk about “the process.” We’ve got thumbnails here from stories by Alan Capes & Shauntae Ball, Isabelle Melançon & Megan Lavey-Heaton, @erysium & Paloma Hernando, and @adamicoarts to give you a little taste of how they all do their thing! Over the next few weeks we’ll be posting more previews from each step of the process so you can see how these amazing stories transformed from sketchy jpeg caterpillars into 600 dpi grayscale tiff butterflies.

Dates 3 is coming!

That’s right, the third volume of Dates launches on Kickstarter in just seventeen short days—on Wednesday, February 27th!

And y’all, it’s the most rip-roarin’, exciting book yet. Almost fifty creators have gathered to create nearly three hundred pages of exciting, queer-led adventure stories. Just like the previous volumes, Dates 3 is chock full of positive queer historical fiction from all over the world… but in this volume, that fiction might take place on speeding trains, tall mountains, or racing horseback.

Check out our full list of contributors HERE, follow our twitter HERE, and stay tuned for more previews!

The Queer Looks Kickstarter is live!

Queer Looks is a celebration a selection of iconic aesthetics and symbols used by queer folks in the west from the last 150 years. We have printers lined up and rearing to go, so all we have to do now is raise the money to pay our artists, manufacture the two hard enamel pins, and print the gorgeous 12-piece illustration zine!

Queer people have been sending messages to each other through clothes and accessories for ages, and we’ve always had ways to find each other in a crowd. In the Queer Looks zine, you’ll find the carnation codes of the 1890s, the queer blues divas of the 1920s and 30s, and even the denim and pins of the present day. All these–and more!–are gorgeously illustrated by our crew of Dates veterans:

Check out the Kickstarter page to find out more information…and to pledge! Even if you aren’t able to back the campaign, a reblog or share can make a huge difference.

Let’s make a zine!

Guess what? We HIT GOAL LAST NIGHT (then raised a couple hundred dollars more)! On to the stretch goals–just over $300 to go before we unlock that third pin!

There are JUST OVER 48 HOURS LEFT to back Queer Looks! Since we launched we’ve blasted through our first stretch goal to reveal a third pin, unveiled another, and then sped past that one to reveal our fourth enamel pin as well! The more we raise now, the more we’ll be able to increase our artist bonuses–so back now, if you haven’t already! The campaign ends at 9:00pm EST on Wednesday, March 7.

UNDER THREE HOURS LEFT in the Queer Looks Kickstarter! Can you help us break $10k and bring in that last artist bonus increase?

Think back to the last time you needed to gripe about representation in gaming

Personally, I remember it like it was yesterday, BECAUSE IT WAS. Heck I have a gripe about representation in gaming scheduled for 4:30 this afternoon. But I might cancel it because Raji: An Ancient Epic is on Kickstarter right now

“Raji An Ancient Epic is an action adventure game set in ancient India. Raji, a young girl is chosen by the gods to fight against the demonic invasion of the human realm. Her destiny is to rescue her younger brother and face the demon lord Mahabalasura”

Read that again if you need to, just soak that up. And look at how beautiful

“oh but that’s just concept art the real game won’t look that good” WRONG! Go and look at the [demo playthrough on Youtube], or play the free demo and see how beautiful for yourself, you can get it on [Steam] or [itch.io] or [indiedb] RIGHT NOW.

Can’t be bothered with that? Here’s some actual screencaps.

“I prefer PoC stories told by PoC themselves” well you’re in luck friend, that’s exactly what this is.

And you can get in on this for as little as £16 (around $20). Comparable AAA titles cost $60, and even comparable Indie titles cost $30-40. That’s a steal my friends, that’s a bargain.

Disclosure: I am not affiliated with this project, and I have backed it. I am not receiving any compensation or reward for this post, I back a lot of things on Kickstarter that I don’t post about, but this is such an incredible project I felt motivated to share it. I hope you’ll love it and share it too.

@bikiniarmorbattledamage this isn’t really your area but relevant nonetheless

on that front, I should note that the designers have specifically based the character’s outfit on the real clothing Rajasthani girls of her age & background wear while performing acrobatics, and also based her movement and fighting style on the associated acrobatic techniques, so while it’s not armor as such it’s deliberately designed to be practical, realistic, and historically accurate, so yeah that’s probably relevant to babd (who I love but can’t tag for some reason)

@ineeddiversegames  I think this is right in your wheelhouse

SALE! Proceeds go to relief efforts in Puerto Rico!

Tomorrow (Sept. 27, 2017), Gumroad is putting all their proceeds towards Unicef in Puerto Rico. We’re joining them, and will be donating all our proceeds from the Margins store (after fees and shipping costs) to relief efforts as well.

And, we’re having a sale! Tomorrow only, use code PR-RELIEF at checkout to get 25% off your entire order. The code applies to everything–all the books, PDFs, and pins!

We’re most likely going to be donating proceeds to the Hispanic Federation, but we’re still finalizing that decision.

Vincent and the Doctor—S05E10

Hold my hand, Doctor. Try to see what I see. We are so lucky we are still alive to see this beautiful world. Look at the sky. It’s not dark and black and without character. The black is in fact deep blue. And over there, lighter blue. And blowing through the blueness and the blackness, the wind swirling through the air and then, shining, burning, bursting through, the stars. Can you see how they roar their light? Everywhere we look, the complex magic of nature blazes before our eyes.
