"Last I left you Kriegg... You nearly killed me. What has become of you old friend? Yes you heard me. I did say friend." Sparks spoke in greeting.

The shadows clung to the figure as it huddled in the corner of the broken room, eyes focusing on the person who spoke to it. They glow red from within, but there is no evidence of malice or intent.

“I never thought to see you again, my… friend. How did you find me?”

Avatar

Sparks smiled softly. “Wherever there is light there is dark.” He answered. Al stepped up next to Sparks, blue ice eyes sharp but a smirk on his face. “The shadows cling to you like children and when you left that night… Well you never noticed the decoy chip on your pants.” Sparks stepped up. “We aren’t here to kill you. We just want to see our old friend again. He was missed.” vonkriegg allahyarfireheart

His eyes flick between the two slowly, a strange look quickly masked with the impassive, stony visage he’s adopted over the years.

“I see. Then I suppose there’s little reason to hide in shadow, is there? If what you say is indeed true.”

Pulling himself up slowly from his position, he carefully makes his way towards a shaft of light that filters down through the roof. It passes over his face, illuminating the familiar scar along his jaw as well as a smear of what appears to be soot across his nose.

“I was not expecting to see either of you again. It is… good to see that you both still live and appear unharmed.”

Al chuckled. “Unharmed? Heh…welp I guess you are right. Come come Kriegg we have much to catch up on. The past is the past but true friendship never dies. You are still like a brother to me and Sparks. As you will be happy to know, just because you can’t or couldn’t help what happens doesn’t mean a friendship will ruin. Believe it or not even for an undeader like me, I still care.” he grinned, flashing his pearly whites. “That or I need to stop hanging out with Sparks. Come let us go to my home and I’ll pop us some drinks.” Sparks shook his head grinning. “Yes you are welcome still amongst friends. It is good to see you again unharmed I hope Kriegg. You look just about the same, cept no fangs or…the look of wanting to kill.” he chuckles embarrassed. He looked to the sun light before Al turned to go. “Are you famished? There is food to back in Al’s place.” vonkriegg

Giving a half smile, Kriegg takes a step forward into the light.

“Both of you know I do not eat what most do. Even as so, I could never relieve myself the opportunity to reunite with friends. They are hard to come by these days.”

He pulls his thick red cloak around his frame, concealing it from view as he starts towards the door.

The crowd are moving quickly this day, the market alive with new wares and vendors attempting to sell their wares to any who would draw close. Mothers hold their children by the hand as they browse and young males hold tightly to their lovers so as not to lose them in the hustle and bustle. A small child darts among them, brushing against the female assassin before smiling up at her and holding out a parchment. "For you! Shadow man said to give this to you and he'd buy me candy!"

Avatar

The tiny assassin had been standing in the shadows of one of the market’s booths, just watching the people shuffle past when the child brushed against her. She had caught the child’s arm in a firm but gentle grip, suspicious of unattended urchins.

Still holding the child’s arm, Lily knelt down on one knee and took the parchment with her free hand, “Shadow man, hmmm… surely this important a quest deserves more than candy as payment?” Tucking the parchment in her belt, Lily pulled a silver coin from a hidden pocket and offered it to the child, “Off you go, do not pester the shoppers and mind your elders.”

After giving the little one a gentle swat to the backside, Lily’s grip slackened and she rose to fade even deeper into the shadows. Pulling the parchment from her belt, she unfolded it to read what the message was.

The child rushes away to get lost on the crowd once more as she opens the parchment, the message short but to the point.

“I do hope this letter reaches you swiftly. The child seemed anxious to receive their reward. I believe we both have an acquaintance in common, and would like to discuss the matter. If you’re game, meet me at the Silvermoon inn. I’ll be in the back booth, the one with no light on the table.”

Lily tapped the piece of parchment against her lower lip. Intrigued by the short missive, she methodically sorted through her memories for any hint of the name to put some reasoning behind the sudden invitation. ‘Acquaintance in common’ didn’t help much, Lily knew a great many people, and know of even more.

A soft sigh puffed past her lips as she pushed from the wall that she’d been leaning on. The market wasn’t holding her attention and she began to wander toward the Inn. Back, unlit booths…. sounds like just her kind of meeting.

The feeling of eyes watching was strong as she neared the inn, people stopping in for evening entertainment and refreshment as they often did. It only passed when she stepped inside the magically lit interior and the boisterous laughter rung loudly.

Some were seated at the bar, chatting up the waitresses and barkeep on celebration of another successful day. Amidst this, the booth was easy to spot from the entrance, and there was a figure seated as the letter said. Their face was downturned, but one who lookes closely could tell they were alert to everything around them.

Entering the Inn’s common room, Lily paused just to the side of the door to let her gaze wander over the patrons. She gave one of her typical half-smiles to the barkeep, holding up her index finger before pointing toward the darkened booth at the back. After the man nodded his understanding, she began to weave through the assembled.

As she went, she slid her (awesome) hat off her head, combing a hand through her mussed hair to unravel it from the messy bun she typically kept it in. Casually flicking the thin braid behind her ear over her shoulder, the finger-bone fetish attached to the end of it clattered softly against her back.

“Well this does not seem at all questionable,” She murmured as she slid to take a seat in the booth, her singsong voice tinged with wry amusement. Pausing long enough to thank the barkeep for the small jade cup he placed at her elbow, she turned her full attention to her companion as she picked up the cup, “And who do we have in common, hmm?” arching a brow while blowing across the surface of her tea.

The figure chuckles and leans forward, his eyes catching the light of the surrounding bar and giving a slight glow.

“Kriegg Silverbane.”

He pours a shot, pausing to speak before drinking.

“Not cozy, but my source says you’ve met him. I need to know how long ago and if you know where he is now.”

His hair is cut short and jet black, a hint of scarring trailing up his jaw mostly hidden by the shadow of the booth. Dark eyes hold a wealth of knowledge, as well as a look of vengeance that is plain to see.

Lily didn’t even blink at the name, instead she calmly took a sip of tea as she searched for a face or a memory. Drawing a blank, she held a faint smile as she set her cup down, “Perhaps something about this person we both know? In certain aspects of my life, names are not always the first thing shared among new friends,”

He chuckles and pours another shot, downing it before continuing. “Tall. Long hair. Likes to move around at night. Takes an interest in attacking innocent people and having them for dinner.” He gives a half smile and sets the cup back on the table. “I need to know where he is.” lilysaliao

Lily arches a brow, the description actually would fit a number of people she knew, though the long hair discounted her King. The thought made her snort a laugh and dip her chin for a moment as she meandered through the more violent inhabitants of her memories.

“Well, that is painfully vague. Even I could possibly fit those criteria, under a certain set of circumstances and how broadly you define ‘innocent’.” She drums her sharply pointed nails on the side of her tea cup. “I feel your patience with me growing thin, but sincerely, there must be something more… noteworthy of this person if you mean for me to remember him.”

She leans back in the booth, her cup pulled to the edge of the table as she comfortably crosses her legs, “Any odd physical traits, perhaps a stutter, a limp, they smell like wet dog? Help me out here.”

He shifts slightly, a grin curving his lips and his arms crossing over his chest.

“Now, why would I be losing my patience with you? After all, you’re here giving me information of your own free will, aren’t you? Yes, he can have the occasional smell of wet dog about him. There might also be wounds on his body that seem to heal by themselves, most leaving no scar at all. Or, most telling, would be eyes that seem to glow red coupled with an increase in aggression.”

Leaning forward, his arms uncross and rest on the table. Lights from the inn catch more detail of his features, notably a dark brand seeming to be tattooed on his neck that disappears down beneath his shirt.

She laughed in delight, her elbows coming to rest on the table as she cradled her chin in her palm, “Why did you not just say so! You seek the Darkling.” Lily nods, sure of who he was looking for now, her eyes crinkling at the corners as memories flooded forward and she flipped through them.

With another light chuckle, she picked up her luke-warm tea, taking a sip as she now studied her companion over the lip. She lowered the delicate cup, her gaze pensive, “Kriegg… well that is an interesting name, is it not,” she puffs out a gentle sigh as she looks down at her cup, turning it slowly in her calloused fingers, “I am sorry, but I have no idea where he is. I have not seen him for some time.”

Darkness Falls Pt. 1

(( Music ))

Kriegg remains knelt by the scattered belongings, his eyes staring at ghosts from times past. Memories refuse to give him respite any more, even when the demon boils the blood in his veins and demands he obey the "Master's" will. Hands clench tightly as the urge washes over him once more and a cracking voice breaks the silence and invades his thoughts.

"He won't be pleased if you keep delaying. You know how the Master feels about insubordination." A growl slips from his lips as the woman whom now takes possession of his wife's body chuckles. Her footfalls are light on the floor as she approaches, one arm slipping around his neck as she leans in to whisper into his ear, a mockery of a sweet gesture. "Do as he says. I'm here to ensure you obey."

Anger begins to blot out his vision as his head turns slightly, allowing one burning red eye to settle on her. "You're a mockery of her memory. I don't need, nor do I want you here." His growl is met with a dark grin and a claw dragging slowly up his chest.

"Now now, that's no way to talk to your dear, beloved wife. I'm sure those words would break her heart." Her voice drops to a whisper as she leans closer into his back. "Shall I ask her?" Her question causes the anger to still, confusion setting in it's place. No. That wasn't possible.... was it?

"You mock me further, witch. Explain what you mean." He turns to face her, the grin curving her crimson lips upwards. Her dark eyes suddenly begin clearing and soon he is staring into the dark green eyes he knew from what feels like a lifetime ago. Innocense and fear now clouding their depths. "It.... can't be. A-merra......"

Her eyes widen and tears brim as her head begins shaking back and forth. "N-no... I thought...." With a sob she throws her arms around him and squeezes as tightly as possible. His arms slip around her in response and his face buries itself in her hair. Her shoulders shake with each heavy sob, tears stain the dark jacket until they seem to run in rivulets.

"My love. I thought you were dead! Where were you?" Her voice is broken with sobs and sharp intakes of breath to attempt to calm. "I saw them... drag you away. I-I felt their..." Her hand slips from him and over her abdomen, then returns to him.

"Amerra. My love. I thought you were lost to me for eternity. Gods I've missed you. I've been so alone for so long....." His own tears drip into her hair as he holds her, willing time itself to come to a stop so they can forever hold onto this moment. Finally, he is reunited, even if it is only for mere moments.

"My love...." Her voice is gentle and filled with love as she leans back and looks up at him, a hopeful smile curving her lips. "I.." The smile turns to a look of shock, then one of confused pain. Kriegg arcs an eyebrow and urges her back from him, looking her over carefully before his eyes widen in horror. An arrow protrudes from her abdomen, the tip containing a small bag that seems to have a fuse tucked inside.

She looks down just as the sparking fuse disappears, roaring flame bursting forth and engulfing her entire body. Her screams echo through the small house as she falls to the ground, writhing and attempting to put the flames out. Her efforts only succeed in catching the wooden floors aflame, one that soon spreads to the furniture and what remains of the drapery by the windows.

He drops to his knees and tries to help, succeeding only in pulling her to him and hearing his own skin burning. His arms blacken and flake in places, as does his chest and parts of his face, burning hair scent filling the small room. Twin screams rip through the night as both demoness and his wife burn alive, tears streaming down her cheeks.

"No. NO! Amerra! No!" His arms smoke steadily as the fire burns through skin and muscle to expose the ivory bones beneath, yet he refuses to release his hold on her. "I won't lose you again! No!" His cries fill the room as hers slowly cease, her body stilling in his arms. One eye looks up to him, her burned arm flaking off as she reaches up to touch the side of his face. It rests there mere moments before all skin falls away and bones fall to clatter to the floor, the eye rolling into the now exposed skull as her breathing ceases.

There is no sound for long moments as her body blows away in the wind, taking her spirit to eternity for it's final rest. The house burns around him, his own body is burned badly, but he does not move. Tears streak down his cheeks as he stares at the floor, all thought gone from his mind. All warmth gone from his body. He's been forced to watch her die. Again.

The dark figure walks the small, familiar path towards an empty cabin. Windows are dark where once candles flickered in the gentle breeze. The door is open, hanging by a single hinge just as it was the last time he can recall seeing it. His hand reaches out and traces the wooden frame carefully, reverently before he steps inside. Belongings are scattered along the floors here and there, some long rotted to little more than dirty strips of cloth.

A picture is faded from exposure, the wind tugging it lightly from it’s frame and lifting it up into the evening air. His hand catches it and red eyes scan the image carefully. Remembering. He could never forget this picture, nor when it was taken. Everyone was much happier then, little care in the world beyond the small family within their private sanctuary.

A ghostly touch caresses his arm, tugging at another memory that forces it’s way into his vision. She walks the hall, touching him lightly as she herds the children outside to play. A kiss is planted on his cheek as the boys giggle and wrestle with one another. Her fragrance is intoxicating, tugging at his senses like a drug. Light how he misses her....

The image fades and he continues down the hall, looking at the remains of the rooms that were once so teeming with life. Food lays spoiled and half-eaten by the wildlife who had taken up residence and furniture is torn from claws and hooked talons. A life upended, destroyed completely by callous, malicious darkness.

Exactly like that which flows through his veins now. Reaching the last room in the hall, he steps into what was once a master bedroom, a king sized bed set against the far wall with exquisite drapes of sheer plumb and crimson. They are long torn and dirty, the bed rotted through and springs jutting out of the once soft cushioning. He sits on the edge of the now limp mattress, raking a hand through long dark hair with bowed head. He had a life once.

Happiness. Joy. Love. He had them all once. Lifetimes ago, or so it felt. Now, all he had was darkness. Darkness and anger. Even now, the demon fought for control of his very being, demanding blood. Carnage. Destruction. In his mind, the thought continued to replay itself over and over again. One phrase, three words. A world of meaning. “Why fight it.....?”
