Tipping the Velvet was outstanding. Kitty Butler chose me to throw the rose to during her opening number, and my heart exploded out of my chest. It was the most magical moment. It was a stellar adaptation - very loyal to the book, but with its own character. I am going to treasure that rose forever.
Passed my driving test & Fallout 4 is here. Life is good. 🙌🏾
Today I'm in Edinburgh for Tipping the Velvet, which I have been desperate to see since I heard the novel had been adapted for the stage. The Edinburgh Lyceum does all matinee student tickets for £10, which is an added bonus - I'm in the front row. If I never post again, it's because Kitty Butler threw a flower at me and I died from happiness.
Bruno having bro times with my grandfather. 🐭👴🏻💕
Tonight I went to the Scottish Queer a Film screening of Desert Hearts. It was beautiful. Last summer I read (and loved) the novel, but it's such a niche sort of interest that I never imagined there would be a screening. This year I have been to quite a few films with SQIFF, and they have done so much to improve queer representation in the world of Glasgow culture. It's amazing, not only having more films relevant to my interests, but seeing love between women visible and celebrated.
Update: the vet prescribed cream for the area around Bruno's eye, to be applied twice daily for four days. Bruno, naturally, swiped it straight into his eye. 😑 He was as good as gold with the vet, though, and she said that Bruno is incredibly bonded to me. Let's hope the cream helps him.
Bruno has his first veterinary appointment this afternoon. As you can see, the area around his left eye isn't looking quite right. We're going to get it checked out. Not sure my boy is going to like this experience, but he is incredibly well behaved, so the examination should be easy enough. Wish us luck!
Halloween plans… Although I love the book, and the film adaptation of The Shining is regarded as a classic, tonight will be the first time I have seen it. For weeks after I finished, I was terrified Mrs Massey would appear in my bathroom when I got up during the night. This is probably a terrible idea but, as the kids say, #YOLO!
My Halloween treat: Ghost, an anthology of horror stories compiled by Louise Welsh. Although I’ve bought more than enough books recently, this was impossible to resist. In the last few months, I’ve been consciously seeking out Scottish fiction and Scottish culture - Louise Welsh is very much at the heart of that scene. Her own work is outstanding, and this collection features some of my favourite writers (Virginia Woolf, Kate Chopin, Oscar Wilde, Angela Carter...) - plus, the book itself is gorgeous.
Wish me a scary/enjoyable read!
Ava being dainty. Look at that tail wrap. <3
Selfie with Bruno because we're so cute. 🐭👸🏾
