Anonymous asked:

would you a marry a swiftie with the same politics as you or a fascist with the same taste in art as you

this website has elevated suicide bait to an immaculate artform perfected like no other culture in history

there is a right and a wrong answer here.

if you in the real world wouldn't marry (eg romance repulsed), you are here marrying for tax benefits. you still have to see them all the time. like a coworker until one of you dies.

This got a little long for the tags, so:

For the first poll, I put 'antizionist, other', although 'it's not our place' does fit a little, in the sense that it's not our place to have a Jewish state specifically in the Levant.

Yes, it's our ancestral land, and our holy land. It's also ancestral and holy land for a lot of people. Israel as a modern Jewish state, just by existing, automatically places non-Jews at a lower tier of existence, which is reinforced every time they see a flag with a Jewish holy symbol on it or hear Hatikvah.

Ideally, we'd have a one-state solution - a secular state, where no one religion or ethnic group is elevated above another. Hebrew and Arabic as official languages. No single religious symbols on the flag. A national anthem that doesn't focalise on one single group. Yes, it would need to be written into the constitution of this country that Jews are protected against discrimination and bigotry and hatred - but that should apply for everyone, regardless of race, ethnic background, culture, or religion. This would satisfy the need for Jews to have a homeland in our ancestral home, it would satisfy the need to have a safe haven against antisemitism worldwide, but it would not exclude all others, which the modern state of Israel does.

The Jewish history of the land does not erase the Muslim or Christian history there; the Muslim history there does not erase the Christian or Jewish history there; the Christian history there does not erase the Jewish or Muslim history there. We need to all be able to inhabit the land, peacefully and freely.

For the second poll, I opted not to answer, since none of them really reflect my views; I would answer it as, 'Antizionism isn't necessarily antisemitic, but some antisemites use antizionism as an excuse'. I feel the word 'usually' is unnecessarily slanting it in one direction or the other.

A lot of antisemites (bigots) use antizionism (a political stance) as an excuse; they appropriate discussions to push their own bigotry, without actually caring much about Palestinians or other peoples in the area. Oh, there absolutely are genuine antizionists who care about the politics who are also antisemites, but I've seen far too many examples of like... some anglo racist dick who thinks falafel is a bit too ~foreign~ saying stuff like, "Uh, yeah, sure, I totally care about Palestinians! Anyway how about them terrible Jews, huh?" They're certainly not a minority, but not enough to say that antizionism usually is antisemitic.

Conversely, there are a lot of antizionists who are not only not antisemitic, but many of whom are Jewish! A lot of the loudest, clearest voices discussing antizionism and the future of the Levant are Jewish ourselves.

OP, I hope this helps clarify what a lot of Jewish antizionists are thinking and feeling right now (and chag sameach!).
