โ€œThis is your daily, friendly reminder to use commas instead of periods during the dialogue of your story,โ€ she said with a smile.

โ€œUnless you are following the dialogue with an action and not a dialogue tag.โ€ He took a deep breath and sat back down after making the clarifying statement.

โ€œHowever,โ€ she added, shifting in her seat, โ€œitโ€™s appropriate to use a comma if thereโ€™s action in the middle of a sentence.โ€

โ€œTrue.โ€ She glanced at the others. โ€œYou can also end with a period if you include an action between two separate statements.โ€

Things I didnโ€™t know

โ€œAndโ€“โ€ she waved a pen as though to underline her statementโ€“โ€œif youโ€™re interrupting a sentence with an action, you need to type two hyphens to make an en-dash.โ€

You guys have no idea how many students in my advanced fiction workshop didnโ€™t know any of this when writing their stories.

Okay, but someone please explain question marks when followed by a dialogue tag. How do?

โ€œThe speech tag is still part of the previous sentence,โ€ she explained, โ€˜so it isnโ€™t capitalised.โ€œ

โ€œWhat do you mean?โ€ he asked. โ€œBut thereโ€™s a full stop as part of the question mark!โ€

She nodded gravely. โ€œI know!โ€ she said. โ€œA lot of people find this confusing. But the speech tag belongs to the line of dialogue, itโ€™s still part of the sentence, so itโ€™s wrong to capitalise it.โ€

She reblogged the post again, because she had recently read far too many potentially enjoyable stories marred by poor dialogue punctuation.

Iโ€™ve only seen this post in screenshots till now..

NOICE. Canโ€™t wait to use this

โ€œThere are two more ways"โ€”she pointed to the blackboardโ€”โ€œto punctuate interruptions. One is with the em dashes outside the quotations marks to indicate continuous speech. The action occurs at the same time as speech. The otherโ€”โ€ she sipped from a glass of water โ€œโ€”is em dashes within the quotation marks to indicate interrupted speech.โ€

โ€œNeato,โ€ she said, impressed by the easy-to-follow formatting.

these are all really useful!

if a werewolf dies but they were an organ donor does someone get a new kidney that turns into a wolf kidney once a month

The Anti-Christ came and went, but no one noticed because he wasnโ€™t worse than the current state of the world already is. The rapture followed, but no one went to Heaven, so we didnโ€™t notice that either. Weโ€™ve been living in Hell for the last 5 years, and no one has noticed, yet.

oh I didnโ€™t realize this was a writing prompt

as much as the concept of Jesus being a fairly normal lad has its charms, im personally very intrigued by the idea of him being justโ€ฆ extremely weird. not even in a mystical sense, justโ€ฆโ€ฆ.staggeringly BIZZARRE.

you go to the well to get some water, and hereโ€™s Miriamโ€™s boy, staring at the sky, completely still. his expression is unreadable. you hazard a hello and ask how heโ€™s doing, and he slowly, unblinkingly, lowers his gaze on you (heโ€™s 8 and is missing his frontal teeth, not that this is making you any less uncomfortable) and says โ€œI cannot speak of the state of my being, Nathan son of Saul, my brother, but rejoice for the water you shall take today will be as pure as the soul of the children of Heavenโ€

โ€ฆyou start sweating

normal person in 1st century Nazareth: making my way downtown, walking fast

even funnier, the only person 100% on board with his Prophetic Kid Talk is his mother Miriam, an otherwise placid, absolutely normal woman around 25 or so

Death & Rebirth pt. 1

โ€œPromise me you understand what youโ€™re doing, what youโ€™re getting yourself into.โ€ Lโ€™telihgo fastened the silver chain behind her brotherโ€™s neck, before stepping back in front of him. โ€œPromise me.โ€

โ€œTeli.โ€ Nathaniel smiled the best he could at her, reaching over to run a hand through her hair. She swatted the hand away before he could mess with her hair, and she carefully tied the scarf around his neck once more, her fingers lingering on the crystal that hung on the silver chain against his chest. He could see the emotions playing out on her face as she stared at it, watched the fear try to overwhelm the anxiety before she managed to shove them both down again. โ€œWhen I come back,โ€ he smiled just a bit more as his phrasing seemed to ease her tension, โ€œIโ€™m going to be free. You understand that, right?โ€

โ€œYou will always be one of us.โ€ Her voice shook as she spoke the words, despite her best efforts to quell the rising fear she clearly felt, the beginning of tears prickling at the corners of her eyes. โ€œTehz-โ€

โ€œNo.โ€ Hand lashing out, Nathan grasped her chin as delicately as he could, tilting it upwards. His sisterโ€™s eyes widened, and she let out a shaky breath as she seemed to realize he was trying to keep her from crying. โ€œI promise.โ€ Leaning forward, he pressed a kiss to her forehead, carefully releasing her chin from his hand. She didnโ€™t press him anymore, simply taking a step back as she folded her hands in front of herself.

โ€œNathaniel.โ€ She corrected her previous statement, bending at her waist and letting her hair slide to either side of her face as she spoke. โ€œMay the Twelve guide you, aid you, and return you to us once more.โ€ Nathan wasnโ€™t sure what he was supposed to say to his sister that wouldnโ€™t offend her love of the Twelve, so he opted to say nothing as he turned and headed into the twisting darkness of the Palace of the Dead once more.

"I was unhappy with my service, and I will not be coming back!"

Cool. Don't

"Be sure to pass my complaint along to management." I won't. In fact, I'm going to tell him you left a compliment. Eat ass

"You've lost a customer!" No. No, I wouldn't call this a loss

Ma'am I know this may come as a shock to you but the reason you're unhappy everywhere you go is because every time you go somewhere, you are there. And I can sympathize. Because I'm experiencing this problem right now, too. But together. I believe we can make it through this

Ma'am. Ma'am. Ma'am. Ma'am. Ma'am. Ma'am. Ma'am. Ma'am. Ma'am. Ma'am. I don't care

*softly* you're an unpleasant person

Can I just say, uh, Iโ€™m pretty sure noticing youโ€™re asexual is harder than noticing youโ€™re gay, straight, pan or otherwise. Like, I just read someoneโ€™s desciption of hitting puberty and, like, thereโ€™s nothing like that. Thereโ€™s no sudden โ€˜boobโ€™ moment, no sudden โ€˜fuck, Iโ€™d fuck thatโ€™ moment, not sudden anything. You just, like, plod on through life as usual going โ€˜oooh, thatโ€™s pretty, Iโ€™d like that hairโ€™ or โ€˜oooooh, theyโ€™re nice, Iโ€™d like to be close to themโ€™ but thereโ€™s no like, โ€˜oh, someone would want to fuck that but I donโ€™tโ€™, you know? You just- you donโ€™t notice, you donโ€™t realise everyone else has โ€˜had a momentโ€™ but you havenโ€™t, you just- keep going as you always have.

And then, much much later, you start to wonder why people are getting so caught up in drama for romance or sex, like, why bother? Itโ€™s not worth it, theyโ€™re not worth it, why are you doing stupid things for something thatโ€™s so- and then you wonder if thereโ€™s something wrong with you, start mentally over compensating. Like โ€˜uh, okay, um, who should I date? Who can I stand to date? Who could I stand to fuck?โ€™ like- itโ€™s not, itโ€™s not something you want, but you want to fit it, to be normal.

Sometimes you donโ€™t even know that youโ€™re doing it.

Sometimes you donโ€™t even know asexualโ€™s a thing.

I dunno, I guess, I just feel like, uh, people should understand more?

idk sorry thank you for listening to me

Thank you for perfectly describing it.

There it is. Y'all better read it

And this is it in a nutshell

This is the universal ace experience. Since we all essentially start out as โ€œasexualโ€ as children, itโ€™s just more of the same when you hit puberty. Noticing a lack of change is much harder than noticing a change. And since we donโ€™t know what sexual attraction feels like, and we are taught in no uncertain terms that EVERYONE experiences it, you just assume that you must be experiencing it. So anything you feel for other people, friendship, asthetic appreciation, admiration, idolizing a celebrity, you think โ€œthis must be it.โ€

THIS SHOW IS SO PURE!

Itโ€™s worth noting that Kenneth spent the entire episode making the game (and the subsequent fight) as inclusive as possible for JJ and his disabled friends (all of whom were played by disabled actors/actresses).

Bonus #2

Of course I had to show the best part:
