Having to shoot with an older iPhone model has really tested and reminded me that no matter what camera I use, it's only a tool. Whether you take photos with your phone or a DSLR, bear in mind that megapixels will never outdo artistic ability.

The #MiAmorWedding

"This is the day, this is the day that the Lord has made, we will rejoice and be glad in it."

Thursday, July 24, 2014, I married my best friend and it is the best day of my life yet. We didn’t have a really big wedding but I’m really happy that though it’s just a civil wedding, it felt really big and special to me and Jorge. It’s the day we’ll never forget, it’s the date we’ll always remember.

#AlwaysMiAmor Thursday | July 24, 2014 | 5:30 P.M.

In the morning, Jorge and I still had to do last minute decorations at the reception venue so, we drove thru a McDonald’s for breakfast and went straight to hang our polaroid-sized pictures at our reception that added a lot to our overall decor of the place.

After that, we went straight home and I started doing my makeup. Jorge showered and prepared as well. I also got our things ready for our “big night” at our hotel room. ;) We left the house at 3pm so I could iron Jorge’s shirt at the hotel since we didn’t have an iron nor an ironing board at home. It came out as a blessing in disguise though since Jorge and I got pretty nice prep photos there.

My sisters picked us up from the hotel and we all made our way to Miles Canyon, Jorge and I’s favorite place here in Whitehorse. We arrived early at the place and saw that some of my family were there already. Some of my co-workers also surprised me there! It was a pleasant surprise and it made me feel really happy that they were able to “crash” my wedding. Hehe. The rest of my family arrived minutes after 5:30PM and there was still no sign of our wedding officiator. We started feeling nervous but we just waited. We all just started taking pictures while waiting.

But there was still no sign of our marriage commissioner! We’ve been waiting for awhile now and my feet started to really hurt. We started calling people because she had been late for almost an hour now and Canadians don’t follow Filipino time so we really thought our officiator won’t come anymore. Thank God for tita Gina! She was able to contact Reneé and she came in 15 minutes! She was our wedding saver!! It would have been such a big bummer if we had to call off the wedding just because we didn’t have a marriage officiator.

We had a very short “ceremony” at our perfect spot. It was magical and so beautiful, the happiest moment of my life. At 6:55 PM, we were pronounced husband and wife by Reneé, a boat passed by and witnessed us get married. It was just amazing! <3

It was a beautiful wedding in the heart of a beautiful place. Jorge told me later on in the night that he wasn’t at all worried when our first wedding commissioner didn’t show up because he said that our love story is a story written by God and there was no way God will forsake us. God proved to us that day that His will will always be done.

After the wedding, it drizzled. We didn’t have rice for my family to throw over us so God provided tiny drops of rain from the heavens to wish us a blessed marriage. He’s so awesome! <3

Everything went well at the reception too. So happy that we had more than enough food for our guests, and we all had a pretty great time. I’m also very thankful for my family for cleaning up at the place after the party. They let us leave early so we can enjoy our one-night honeymoon at the hotel room. HAHA. Jorge and I had a great night. :) Thank you Lord for the wonderful gift of marriage. <3

Special thanks to:

The Chocolate Claim for our very beautiful and delicious cake // Michelle (my co-worker) for my bouquets and Jorge’s boutonniere // my sisters for helping with the decorations and for taking our photos // for Kuya Gian for helping us get the clubhouse for free // for the Tajonera-Lopez family for the delicious dessert // my sister Hannah for baking the heart-shaped brownies // for Tita Gina for finding our wedding commissioner // and of course, to my husband for being the best man in my life because he helped me everything for our small wedding <3

It's been two weeks since the Yukon became my new home and since arriving here, with the wedding and all the craziness, Corinth and I have been super busy. But now that things have settled down and are back to normal, I'm looking forward to start documenting my life journey here. Stay tuned.

Given that our wedding was on a very tight budget, Jorge and I didn’t really even think about hiring a photographer but we weren’t worried at all. We actually looked forward to taking photos of each other and surprisingly, the photos came out better than expected!

We didn’t really plan on getting ready at the hotel room that we booked for the night (ooooh ;)), but we had to check in before the wedding just so I can iron Jorge’s shirt because we don’t have an iron at home. :| After I ironed my fiancé’s shirt, we started dressing up for our small and intimate wedding. Jorge took photos of me getting ready, I took photos of him while he was getting ready and boy that was really fun. He looked so handsome and he couldn’t get enough of my overall look as well.

Later on that night, after the ceremony and  little party with my family and friends, we checked out the pictures and we’re so proud to say that we did really well in our prep photos. <3

Last night, Corinth and I started edited our wedding pictures together. We didn't plan on having a photographer so we took our own prep photos. They turned out better than expected. Photo by @corinth.suarez, edited with #vscofilm. | #miamorwedding (at Best Western Gold Rush Inn)

A couple photos from my short walk downtown yesterday in Whitehorse, Yukon. I used VSCO Film for the first time to edit these and being primarily a VSCO Cam user, the latitude difference from VSCO Cam to VSCO FIlm is amazing.

As many of you know, I met Corinth through the @Instagram app and since becoming a couple, we've really enjoyed sharing our long distance love story through the hashtag, #chasingmiamor. Being in a long distance relationship has been tough and even painful at times but we've learned so much and matured individually and as a couple. I'm grateful to God that in the past year I was able to see Corinth three times and spend a total of 30 days together in person. Technology today makes it easier to stay connected with people far away but nothing compares to having them right by your side. With that said, I'm so excited to finally announce that I will be moving to Whitehorse, Yukon to be with Corinth for good! Finally! God willing, the Yukon will be my new home as of July 16, 2014 and Corinth will be my wife as of July 24, 2014. God is so good and so faithful! Oh and happy 16 months, @corinthgonzalo! ❤️

There comes a time in a man’s life when he is sure that he has found the woman he’ll spend the rest of his life with. That person will be someone very special, someone he will love for the rest of his life and never, for better or worse, let them go. They will support each other, comfort each other, teach each other and grow together as individuals and as one. Their mutual decision to be joined together in marriage will be one blessed and seen as good by God and they will receive favor from the Lord all of their days on this earth. They will forever be grateful for this beautiful blessing and will never stop praising and bringing glory to His name.

The Proposal (BTS)

When I knew I had the chance to propose to Corinth on our trip to Toronto and it would also be her birthday, I thought what better day to propose than on her birthday! Before the trip, Corinth asked if I could plan the entire trip as a birthday gift to her which meant I had full control of what we did each day on our trip. I'm glad she gave me this task because it made planning the proposal much easier.

I proposed to Corinth on her birthday and God truly made sure the entire day went just as planned. It was so dreamy and perfect, definitely the best day of my life yet. To read Corinth's blog post of the entire day including the proposal, click here!

Growing up I had read plenty of engagement stories and had seen many proposals on tv, movies and even online with the ever-growing number of YouTube proposal videos. There are infinite ways to pop the question and you can certainly make it unique if you really give it some thought. I wanted to avoid any cliches but I knew that as long as I made it personal and from my heart that it wouldn't matter how I asked Corinth for her hand in marriage, it would still be special.

When I began thinking of how I would pop the question to Corinth, I seriously had no idea of how to do it. Until one night, Corinth and I were video chatting and she mentioned that she wanted to open a gift on her birthday even if it was just one. As soon as she said this, I felt a light bulb light up in my head and I finally had an idea! I would find an odd shaped box to place the ring inside it and that would be the gift that she wanted all along, the ultimate birthday gift! I had the basic idea and now I had to find a way to execute it right.

One night I was over my mom's house and I was telling her of how I planned to propose to Corinth at Niagara Falls. While speaking to her I noticed there was a tissue box on the table next to her and immediately I knew I had found the box that I would use to place the ring inside. At that moment everything came together perfectly in my head! There would be a ring inside a tissue box with socks for padding and added weight, tissues inside the box for Corinth's tears when she unwrapped the gift and realized that I was about to propose, and an elegantly wrapped gift to throw Corinth off with any guesses as to what was inside the box!

I used Google Maps to find the exact location of where I would propose to Corinth and I decided on Queen Victoria Park. Using the Map view and looking at many pictures, it seemed like the best spot away from the tourist crowd and no intimidating people around to ruin the moment.

May 24, 2014 was a day we'll remember for the rest of our lives. The weather was beautiful, the sun and time of day was just right and the mood was as good as it gets. The moment finally came and I popped the question just like I had planned in my head. She cried so the tissues inside the box were a clever idea, we kissed, we hugged and of course she said YES.

Credits to my mom for the perfect gift wrapping and my brother, sister and Corinth's sisters for keeping it a complete secret. It took many weeks of planning for this very special moment and I feel so blessed and thankful that God truly made it a memorable day for Corinth and I. Our favorite day yet.

Engagement Ring

Never did I imagine I'd be shopping for an engagement ring this early in life but I did and I have to say I enjoyed the process quite a lot. I can admit that I'm somewhat of a perfectionist, especially when I do something for someone that I truly care about. With that said, buying the ring that my wife would wear for the rest of her life would require that I make the perfect choice.

My approach to getting Corinth the best diamond I possibly could give her in regards to quality and budget was to first learn about what characteristics give a diamond its beauty and value. It started with me learning the 4 Cs of diamonds, Cut, Color, Clarity, and Carat and later went into more detailed measurements like symmetry of a diamond and table/depth percentages. Understanding how these 4 Cs and different criteria affect a diamond is essential to being able to choose one that will look beautiful on your partner's finger and refract/reflect light like a diamond should.

After many weeks of studying and gaining as much knowledge as I possibly could, it was time to start diamond hunting. In my time spent educating myself I also learned that buying through an online dealer is dramatically cheaper than from a local dealer. I tested this myself by actually visiting a couple local dealers and I confirmed that it is indeed more expensive to buy at a local dealer and I assume that has to do with local dealers having more overhead expenses. Because of that, I made the decision to buy online which would give me the best quality diamond ring within my budget. Since every diamond from Blue Nile, the online dealer, comes with a detailed grading report, I knew exactly what I was buying without ever seeing it in person!

The engagement ring I finally chose was a round cut diamond on a solitaire setting. I took the photo above with the ring on my finger the day the ring arrived in the mail and I was so freaking ecstatic! I couldn't believe I had actually bought the ring that I would propose to Corinth with and it was so perfect! The diamond size was exactly what I wanted for Corinth and the way it refracted light was exactly how a diamond should. I knew that this ring would forever be a reminder of my deep love for Corinth every time she wears it on her finger. I humbly and honestly say that I am super proud of myself for doing such a great job at making the purchase of my life.
