To be fair, he did say "Huh, I've spent my whole life in pursuit of this one goal but now it's done and I don't know what to do with myself." That's why it's important to have friends and hobbies - friends can offer helpful suggestions like Wesley did AND you know you have other skills that you can utilize for your next big project.

I should add that the helpful suggestion was to become a pirate, which is a great suggestion under any circumstances, even more so when the suggester happens to have a successful pirate persona he's ready to hand off to you

With the latest episode of Dungeon Meshi/Delicious in Dungeon, I'd like to bring attention to another clever bit of worldbuilding.

We already know from the previous episode that the "tentacles" are animals, not plants, and in fact are explicitly cnidarians, as shown by their nematocysts/cnidocytes, or stinging cells.

In the real world, there are a number of small creatures that can live safely among the stinging tentacles of an anemone or jellyfish, and of these, the clownfish (also known as anemonefish) are the most well-known.

It is believed that the slimy coat of clownfish differs in some way from that of other fish so that it doesn't trigger the stinging cells, so as long as the clownfish's slime coat is intact, it is protected from stings.

Of course, clownfish are marine fish, so Ryoko Kui utilized a different slimy creature, an arboreal one that could clamber about in the stinging tentacles: giant tree frogs!

They're tree frogs because their toes have the sticky discs. I've never seen frog monsters utilized this way or in this ecological niche before, but in hindsight it is brilliant in its simplicity, and very appropriate.

And as an added reference, the frogs themselves are colored exactly like clownfish!

For those unaware, Super Mario Maker for the Wii U disabled uploading levels in March of 2021, and is shutting down its servers entirely in April of this year. I don't know if there's a good estimate on how many levels have been created in SMM's lifetime, but in 2016 Nintendo reported about 7.5 million levels created by players, so the number is High.

In the meantime there is a community dedicated to taking every level that has yet to be cleared for the first time, and clearing it. Some of these levels take 6-10 hours of attempts to beat, and some of them use obscure glitches that no one else has discovered. Nevertheless, as of a few months ago there were less than 20,000 uncleared levels and currently there are less than 1,000.

Nothing remains but the most difficult platform experiences you can imagine. The community is confident they can "beat Super Mario Maker" but the deadline is fast approaching. It will be a tight race, and this is shaping up to be a potentially historic moment.

As of yesterday, all levels uploaded in 2016 have been cleared.

There are now 10 levels left.

We're looking at a full clear by Friday.

It is Thursday, Ides of March Eve, and there are 3 levels left before every single level in Super Mario Maker has been beaten by someone.
