Anyone still here? I liked this place more than Twitter and that’s become a hellscape.
I received a few DMs yesterday about how different the @kingsbklyn looks now. So I thought I should post some progress shots taken during its restoration. Unfortunately @instagram only lets you post 10 at a time, so I had to narrow it down a bit. (at Kings Theatre) https://www.instagram.com/p/B2J9pdZB2G1/?igshid=19akpjo5t5y0x
A few years back I was interviewed for a documentary called "Going Attractions: The Definitive Story Of The Movie Palace.” I had a fantastic time speaking with April Wright about theaters, and really enjoyed the finished film. "Going Attractions" is having its world premiere today at @flickers.riiff – The Rhode Island International Film Festival. https://www.instagram.com/p/B03eEGUBozz/?igshid=1d7jjlnbice3
Before and after, Male Ward, Hudson River State Hospital.⠀ ⠀ I tried to match these shots as close as possible, but the floor being gone hindered that a little bit.⠀ ⠀ And don’t worry. I’ll post something theater related soon. https://www.instagram.com/p/B00_Uv1B0jY/?igshid=6vvpjzzgpift
One of the first abandoned places I photographed, Hudson River State Hospital, is currently being demolished so I'm taking a quick break from theaters to post a few photographs from there. These were taken in 2003 in the Herman B. Snow Rehabilitation Center, which opened on the campus in 1971. https://www.instagram.com/p/B0yxocWhnvi/?igshid=1axx0v1mz0jjl

The Loew’s 46th Street Theatre opened on October 9, 1927 as the Universal Theatre. It was acquired by the Loew’s Corporation in August 1928, and closed so renovations could be made to the sound equipment. Apparently the lions, which were the symbol of MGM/Loews, were added during this time. https://www.instagram.com/p/BuMVtkihLTV/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=bpary3s6oxyg

I'm expanding my post on the @kingsbklyn using material from my book on the theater. Instagram doesn't allow links in posts, so you'll just have to manually go to afterthefinalcurtain.net to see it. Loew's Kings Theatre - Part One
I’ve decided to expand my post on the Kings Theatre into four parts using some excerpts from my book, Kings Theatre; The Rise, Fall and Rebirth of Brooklyn’s Wonder Theatre. Find out more about the book here.
Blueprints for the auditorium of the Kings.
