TROS Fix-It Ending

Welp, this movie truly broke me – I’ve gone and written a fanfic, y’all. Well, sorta. More like a lost alternate ending, written in screenplay format since, you know, it’s a movie, lol.

Anyway, I woke up with this in my head and needed to get it out. No time to work out any finer details and minutiae, so forgive any errors. It’s cheesy but I DON’T CARE. I just hope it makes someone feel better.

Begins after The Kiss:

My favorite thing to come from TROS so far is this writing from Kate.  I love this ending; if the movie had ended like this, the series would have been so much better for it.  Thank goodness for fandom.

Russian music video about Sansa Stark. There’s Sandor in it as well.

Here is a quick rough translation of the Russian lyrics I found (I’m deaf, so I hope they’re the same, sorry that I don’t do justice to the original):

In a foreign castle, in King‘s Landing,

A songbird lives

Trapped by lions in a cage of stone

She sings wondrous songs.

The lion is young and does not repent of his sins.

He’s a cruel lion.

The little bird sings to please him

But there is a doom upon her.

Little bird, little bird

in a golden cage.

What are you waiting for – a crown, or a knife?

Fly, little bird, from branch to branch.

It’s a shame you‘ll never sing to me again.

In the foreign castle everyone wears a mask,

and nobody is your friend.

The young lion kills with love,

revelling in the sight of suffering.

It’s hard go through tears,

But you can, you must.

Sing, little bird, sing to please the lion,

to get a full revenge.

Little bird, little bird

in a golden cage.

What lies ahead of you - fire or ice?

Fly, little bird, from branch to branch.

It’s a shame the Hound will never find you.

@a-muscaria you are awesome!  Thank you so much for translating!

I sit here, fingers splayed across this mangled parchment and watch the candle burn lower and lower.    The number of nights passed in this very position could be the beginnings of some sad song, one that would surely make a kind heart like yours weep.   In my dreams, I am visited by the Mother who is yet the Maiden. Her hands touch this ruined flesh with a tenderness that could tear apart the world.   It tears apart my soul and gently remakes it, reshapes it into something like a man.  -Letters from the Quiet Isle, Unsigned

Marching Song is absolutely stunning. I can't get enough of it; my eyes want to drink it in again and again. Will you say a few more words about the process of finishing it and how it came to be in its current beautifully illustrated form?

I had a lot of practice with this type of project when I worked on my first illustrated novella “Running with the Hare and Hunting with the Hound.” So Marching Song’s polish is due to the steep learning curve I went through there.

For Running/Hunting, I used many different artists which I thought was fitting for the psychedelic imagery of that story. For MS, I wanted just to use one in order to create visual coherence and I was very fortunate that Bubug agreed as it is a big time sink to illustrate so many scenes. She said she was a fan of Running/Hunting, so perhaps that helped sell her to the project.

I think with fandom’s move to tumblr, there’s so much imagery available to evoke the emotional story that is occurring in your head. Doesn’t every fan have a #Sansan feels tag? For example, the cover of MS, was inspired by how much I enjoyed the soot stained steely eyed face of Michael Fassbender in the movie poster for Macbeth.I would collect images I saw that evoked MS to me and then worked with the artist to bring what I saw in my mind’s eye to fruition. Of course Bubug is a brilliant artist (and Sansan fan) and she took my notes and images and gilded them with her own unsurpassed talent.

With the layout, I collect illustrated novels, especially fairytales so I know what I’ve liked in professional books and carried it over to my own fanworks. I used Microsoft Publisher to put everything together as it’s quite a bit easier to use than Adobe and you can just insert jpegs and wrap around text intuitively. Then I pdfed the whole thing for emagazine publishing on Issuu and hardbound publishing on Blurb. The toolkit skills you need are simple, but the whole process is a huge labor of love as there’s so many things to put together from composing the story, envisioning the scenes, working with the artist, formatting the finicky files into a book. It’s a years long project and I wish I had done more as MS was suppose to be a lot grander than what it ended up being. But I’m ultimately happy it is out there for fandom to enjoy.

Kim, my copy of “Marching Song” arrived safely, and it’s beyond-words-beautiful.  I have been wanting to make a post about it, to thank you, but I genuinely find myself speechless when I look at it.  All the effort and love you put into it is absolutely evident on each and every page.  I find myself running my hand over the pages, like my eyes are not enough to absorb this beauty.  Gah, I am tripping over my words now, but all I really mean to say is, you have created something so lovely it approaches perfection.  I am moved. Thank you for sharing it.  Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you.  <3

These are the songs that have inspired this story:

“Fields of Gold” has become one of my favorite AU fics of all time, and I admit I’ve been listening to the Sting song quite often since the story began.  If I could live inside any fic, maybe it would be this one.  I want to see Invernalia for myself.  Listening to this music makes me feel like I’m a little closer to being there.

If you’ve only watched HBO’s “Game of Thrones”, you don’t know the whole story of Sansa and The Hound! As war and green wildfire rage through the city outside, political prisoner & King Joffrey’s betrothed Sansa Stark flees to the safety of her bedchambers, only to be confronted by Joffrey’s sworn shield, Sandor “The Hound” Clegane, who has abandoned his post and come to Sansa, the one person to whom he’s confided his greatest secret and whom he has tried to protect from Joffrey’s cruelties, in a moment that’s a culmination of the building tension between these two unlikeliest of allies, which will have a profound lasting impact on them both… This is what REALLY happened between Sansa and Sandor as written by George R.R. Martin in his best-selling fantasy novel, ‘A Clash of Kings’…
