heels crunch as she shifts her weight, emerging from the shadows. steam rolls around her figure, copious amounts of skin peeking through the slits in her dress despite the bitter, cold night. " i thought you might be dead. "

Arms folded loosely across her chest, the faintest hint of a grin dancing across her lips. “Much to the dismay of many I’m sure, you can see I am not.”

Leon’s gaze shifted to his ring finger at her words. He always had it on him somewhere. Most of the time it was on his finger where it belonged but he once thought he had lost it on a mission only for it to luckily end up in one of his pouches. After that he made sure to have it secured to his body somewhere safe during missions especially since it didn’t seem to always be safe on his finger. The drawback of fingerless gloves.
‘’Not just sometimes.’’ He said softly, his eyes watching her trace his finger over the tan line. He didn’t move his hand, he let her touch him. His gaze shifted back to her eyes when she reached up to touch the scar.
This time he didn’t remove her hand. He let her touch it even as he remembered how he got it that night.
He had been ambushed by a group of attackers. He had fought valiantly till one of them hit him hard with something. Leon didn’t know what it was because the hit came out of nowhere from an attacker that had managed to flank him, causing him to lose touch with reality at the sudden impact. He remembered the pain, the blood running into his eye and down his face. At that point he didn’t register that it wasn’t the blood that blocked his vision but that it was due to the hard impact to his brow and eye that had blinded him. Thankfully the blindness had only been temporarily but the consequences of such an injury still lingered.
The wound on his brow didn’t scar well due to the wound constantly being reopened and torn further from the abuse he went through. Could have been worse I suppose.
The agent swallowed, eyes closing at her touch and his attempt to block the memories that followed after that. It would only be a matter of time before she would see the rest of the scars from that incident. A slight feeling of nervousness overcame him but he didn’t react to it. He felt unsure of how she might react to new scars on his front and back but a more reasonable side of him made him feel silly. They weren’t people put off by scars. Scars were just an unfortunate aftermath they had to deal with.
Leon finally let go of her ring when he reached into his pocket for his keys, his eyes never leaving hers as he fidgeted with something before his own ring fell onto his palm. He placed his keys onto the table next to her laptop before slipping the ring onto his finger.
‘’Are you going to leave me again?’’ The soft-spoken voice of the agent finally coming through.. He knew she assured him that she won’t when he asked her earlier…but that was before he finally confronted her about it.

She took note of the pained look that crawled over his features. Like he was remembering something... Or dreading something to come. Maybe both. Ada slowly pulled her hand away, watching him fidget with his keys before an object fell into his hand. It was his ring. His wedding ring. A small, surprised grin tugged at her lips. Watching him slip the ring back onto his finger, where they both knew it belonged, made her heart flutter a bit. Her eyes blinked quickly as she took a deep breath. Shaking her head, her gaze shifted to meet with Leon’s once more. “No, I’m not leaving you again,” she stated, voice gentle and sweet. Ada lifted a hand again, this time to rest it against his cheek. Another deep breath. She could feel an ache in her heart from regret. A part of her wished for a do over. “If I could do it all over, I wouldn’t have left...”

—Rest for The Wicked

Jill read the text though didn’t reply, busy with travel prep. She knew going in anything that could announce herself as having anything to do with the incident would be something of suicide. She dressed casually, even opting to book a commercial flight rather than catch a ride by company chopper. The less suspicious she seemed, the better. Stepping off the plane she could already feel the humidity creeping up on her, the slightest of voices in the back of her mind reminding her of the days she had no control over her own self and she had to immediately stop her mind from working. Now was not the time for all of that. Pulling out her phone she finally responded to her friend, who she was actually rather eager to see. [TXT → Ada]
Just landed. About to scope out the town for myself if you'd like to join me.

The agent looked over the text, a grin dancing across glossed lips. Jill was certainly in a hurry to get out. Not that Ada could really blame her. What she was doing seemed like prison. A cage... And Jill was a glorious eagle, aching to stretch her wings once more, up in the sky where she belonged. Now that her cage has opened, she had left immediately to take the skies. Ada left some money on the table, standing to leave as she typed out a response. It was going to be a good day. Week, or however long this would be. Deep down, Ada was quite thrilled to see her friend again. [TXT → Jillian]

As though that is eve up for debate. Where are we meeting?

He never was one to throw tantrums and let his anger turn ugly. It pained him that she would think he was the one that would stay away or leave her to deal with something on her own after she made the effort to ask him for help. No matter how angry he was, he would not abandon her when she needed him. He never would.
His silent request was answered when she pulled the object out. He forgot to breathe for a moment as his eyes landed on her wedding ring. His anger didn’t feel close to boiling over anymore.
She still kept it. Even after so long.
Leon slowly reached up with his left hand, letting the ring rest on his palm. It was warm from being tucked away against her skin and beneath her clothes. A sudden feeling of longing shot through him and it made him close his hand around the object. The tan line on his ring finger coming into view as well.
He thought of his own wedding ring hidden securely in a coin holder that he had attached to his keys that were in his pocket. To be placed back on his ring finger where it belonged but he didn’t get to doing so yet.
‘‘God…I wish….’‘ His heart ached, for her, for closure, for the empty feeling he wanted gone. He wanted to touch her, to hold her and take both their pain away.

Her eyes watched his hand lift, the ring resting in his palm. It looked so small in his hand. Then she caught another glimpse of the tan line around his ring finger. She could feel her heart pounding, trying desperately escape the confines of her ribcage. Another deep breath. Surely he didn’t think she’d just be rid of it. “I see you sometimes still wear yours too...” Her voice was quiet, a hand lifting to brush a finger over the tan line. He must have worn it quite often in the sun in order for there to have been a tan line that formed. Ada’s eyes shifted up, fixating on the scar over his eye. Her hand moved to gently trace a finger over the scar. Something in her screaming that she didn’t protect him at all. Something in her screamed, even louder, that she should have been there. Good going, Ada. Doing more harm than good...

—Found You

By the time his breathing went to a normal state, the woman seemed harmless and the thought of her breaking him out of that condition as well as that container was more likely for him than her involved in having him as an experimental lab rat for many years. It was indeed a new change of scenery, no longer seeing the hallucinations that his mind has been conjuring during his stay in the container.
So I was stuck inside that thing for like what? Years? That I do not know. I even thought I was dead but all thanks to a beautiful woman which is her…the one in front of me. I got out erm…in this place. He thought to himself, arching his right brow the time the woman greeted him. Ah I thought she speaks in a different language, though she looks like someone from that ninja girl’s place…ah Wutai.
“Um…hi and first things first. Who are you? What is this place?” Moving his body at this to which he had his hands as support, grabbing onto parts of the container that housed him for many years.

“You’re certainly vocal for someone who just woke from a slumber...” She murmured, kicking her left foot out to cross in front of her right. “Name’s Ada.” Her voice was bit louder this time, maintaining its soft purring undertone. She watched him place his hands on the nearest object to support himself. Of course he would be groggy. Who knows how long he had really been stuck in there. A soft hum escaped her lips. Vocal, with many questions. “We’re in Russia. At a... what appears to be abandoned Umbrella facility.” She pushed her petite frame off the line of computers, sauntering away to get a look at what the monitors were reading now. “Guess they didn’t care much for you... Considering they left you here after the collapse of the corporation..” Voice trailed off a bit and she let out a soft ‘tsk’ sound. “Such a shame...”

Her reasons were not good enough. There were so many discreet ways for her to make contact with him. No, he wasn’t satisfied by her explanations at all. She clearly had no problem contacting Jill, so why not just do it through her.
Leon kept quiet a moment, his eyes never leaving her. For a moment they seemed empty as he thought back to the two years without her. A feeling of loss that left him feeling empty. Nothing could fill that void she had left.
His gaze finally lowered, his shoulders almost seeming to sag under an invisible weight.
‘’Yes I do. I do have every right.’‘ This time he let out a soft scoff. ‘‘ What…should I shout at you? Throw things? What difference would that make? It’s not going to change shit.’’ Usually he made sure to keep swearing to a minimum around her but he was too damn tired to care.
‘‘Shocked?’‘ Leon has seen her once again messing with the chain around her neck, like a lifeline. ‘‘Why? You didn’t think I would want to see that you were indeed alive?’‘ He slowly approached her again, right hand clenched.
His gaze lowered to the hand she had over whatever was hidden underneath her shirt. It shifted to look into her eyes again. A silent request, or perhaps a demand, to show him.

“Maybe a part of me believed you didn’t want to see me... After I took off the way I did...” Her head tilted toward him, honey colored eyes shooting a glance at him.”How you choose to act on your anger, is entirely up to you. I won’t be fighting back...” Suddenly, exhaustion hit her like a truck, finally surfacing on her facial features via droopy eyelids and glazed eyes. But she wouldn’t be resting yet. Ada noticed how his eyes trailed to her hand, then back up. He wanted to know what she kept touching at, she knew this. The agent silently complied. Thin fingers looped around the chain and tugged it from beneath her shirt, revealing the ring she kept close to her heart. The ring that kept her grounded. The ring that she made so many quiet promises to... Deep breath in. Slow exhale. “I always wear it,” she began, “I made promises that I’d come back. That I’d tell you anything you wanted to know.” A pained smile tugged the corners of her lips upwards. “Sometimes, I’d even kiss it goodnight. Childishly hoping that maybe you felt it..”
