She burned. Inside of her, everything raged and burned, consuming itself like a wildfire let loose inside her chakra nature. It hurt in a numbing sort of way that made it feel as if there'd be nothing left but a burned away husk when it was done.
She was tired. Exhausted. So tired that someone else had to hold up her arms to compensate for the weight of the child she'd been handed. But she couldn't close her eyes yet, it wouldn't be right to go to sleep before she could speak to her child.
She pressed her lips to his forehead, able to move, at least, even if it felt as if she had to dig to the very bottom of her reserves of energy to do that. A faint reddish mark was left on mottled skin from the heat of the contact, but the nearby nurse reached out to quickly soothe the skin with healing chakra.
"I'm sorry..." She hadn't quite realized how hot she was to the touch, with the fire burning inside her. He must have had heat resistant blankets, that they allowed her to hold him.
It was a nice feeling to hold him. Such a shame Sakumo wasn't there to do it, too.

Pregnancies are highly discouraged for people with Otsume’s condition. Due to the strain that pregnancy puts on the chakra network, it can cause the condition to flare up even worse without any conscious use of it. It can also cause permanent damage to both the mother and the child’s chakra networks if the peaks and valleys are too sharp or manifest at bad times.
Active duty is strictly prohibited, even if a shinobi chooses to have the child anyway, because of the astronomically higher chance of exploding or permanently crippling the mother should she be required to agitate her chakra network.
Otsume herself was stuck on bedrest from the sixth month onward, due to sudden shifts in her network that she couldn’t mitigate with her usual techniques. Being stuck off duty for almost a year and in bed for the last three months (slightly less, because she went into labor about a week ahead of schedule) made her extremely restless and frustrated, but she was very determined to have the child regardless.
