smol rant about the incorrect - or rather, "aesthetic" - use of æ, ø, and å. please excuse. as a norwegian person who use these letters frequently i can feel myself getting increasingly annoyed by people using them as though they make up the same sound as the letters they are combined of in english. newsflash; the norwegian alphabet does not sound the same way as the english one does. not even close. while it is true that a + e = æ, o + e = ø, and a + a = å, that does not mean that "bæ" sounds even remotely like "bae", or that "tæ(hyung)" sounds like "tae(hyung)". "bæ" particularly is literally how we write out the sound a sheep makes, okay? to make it short, and as understandable as possible; here's how the letters basically sound like when used in the norwegian language: æ -> the 'a' in "cat" ø -> the 'u' in "burger" (or simply ö, for those who use that letter) å -> the 'a' in "all" now please, before you use these letters for "aesthetic purposes" PLEASE try to read over them like this and consider just how dumb it sounds to a person who natively uses them. and for all the twenty one pilots fans out there: i get it. you love the band, and that's cool. i have no problem with you liking them. but for the love of everything good and pure, think about what you write before you replace all of yours o's with ø. at least have the decency to open google translate and check if whatever you're writing has a meaning in norwegian or not, because some of the shit you write seems downright stupid, okay? one of the cases i remember very well was this one banner someone made that said "we stayed alive før u". now this would be both sad and sweet, had it not been for the fact that "før" actually means "before", so to me that looks like it's saying "we stayed alive /before/ you", which is the polar opposite of what i assume they wanted to say. even simple words such as "do" can get very different meanings when swapping, as "dø" means "die". so again, please - check if it means something. if it doesn't then you'll still both look and sound dumb as fuck, sorry (let's be real, you'd think i looked pretty damn dumb if i replaced all of my o's with the japanese character お too), but at least you won't be typing out something that may twist what you're saying in ways you don't want it to. honestly, i'd like to ask you all not to use letters that aren't even in the alphabet of the language that you're writing in, but i know that won't happen. so at least try to be the least disrespectful that you can be and take five seconds to google your damn words. thank you.
