Okay, so I didn't want to say anything until I confirmed I wasn't just being over anxious. Moony, my beloved belly rub addict, had lost some weight, was drinking and peeing more than normal, and was starting to get a chemical-y scent. He's always had digestive issues, and Bunbun (Sunny) had in the near past had bladder stones so I was thinking it was just that because of our city's well water. We made some diet changes and introduced some kidney friendly treats just in case. I finally caved yesterday and took him to the vet because I was becoming increasingly concerned over the weight loss. For anyone that hasn't been following long and doesn't know, Moony is a **BIG** cat. Not like super fat, but long and densely muscular with a little bit of love handle at all times. I started being able to feel his spine and that was like 🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩. He was a bit of a turd for the vets yesterday. Only mom gets to touch his tummy and they wanted an ultrasound. But all in all he wasn't too horribly traumatized, he got to keep all his fur and make grumpy faces the way home. The vet, however, had me horrendously worried that it could be cancer because he decided to jump to that as a possibility instead of going over all the other options first. Today they called me with the results, and Moony is diabetic. I am ridiculously relieved it is not cancer. My mom is already diabetic, I can deal with something familiar and treatable. I am waiting for quotes for their recommended treatment options. I may offer some sort of commission special depending on what they send me. His visit yesterday was already almost 400$ and all they did were blood and urine labs, and an ultrasound. Anyways, I needed to get that off my chest because for about 24 hours I was petrified that I might have had another cat with cancer at the same age and with everything else I have had happen in the last few years I probably just would have cracked completely at that point.

The excerpt paragraph made me look up and stare at my wife for three solid minutes waiting for them to return to the couch. I couldn’t move on with my life. I had to read it aloud to them to their audible disgust and then they read all the comments with unbridled delight.

Now we keep repeating “Like Zorro.”

There’s a fic on fanfiction(.)net that I’ve kept tabs on for years to see if it’s been updated or not. While I’m no longer even in the fandom it’s written for, it just has one of the greatest storylines I’ve ever read. Last time it was updated was 2011.

The other day, I decided to reread the entire thing and leave a very in-depth review of what I thought of each chapter. I also mentioned how I started reading it when I was 13 and am now 21, but always came back to see if it was ever finished because I loved it so dearly.

Today, said author sent me a private message saying that her analytics showed that the story was still getting views even after all these years, but no one ever bothered to leave reviews other than “update soon!!!”, so she never felt motivated enough to finish it. She said that me reviewing every single chapter with lengthy paragraphs made her cry and meant the world to her. She also mentioned that she felt encouraged to write the two remaining chapters needed to complete the story and that she would send me a message the night before she updates the fic.

I’m literally sobbing. I’m so excited :’)

Please always remember to leave a review when reading fanfiction!!! It means a lot to a writer.

Seriously, this is what keeps us going; YOUR COMMENTS.

And you think my ranting about it is just being salty! It’s not! Reviews can mean the difference between feeling motivated and feeling out of place.

Tapping the sign! This is for the anon that suggested I “think about the logistics” instead of complaining about people not reblogging/commenting on fic. It makes a massive difference.

The same goes for art. I am tickled pink whenever I get actual comments and it motivates me to make more. I stumbled upon a maker on instagram that used one of my fabric patterns on spoonflower to make something and I was like in happy tears commenting on it and showing off screenshots of their post and tagging them in it and in my head going "I should design more fabrics!" Like the world of difference that one little post made was like the difference between a raindrop and a flood. Creators thrive on interactions about our work. For many of us, our work is a significant part of our lives and what makes us feel happy and fulfilled. We don't need a mainstream corporately funded level of success, we just want that validation of knowing we brought joy to someone. We aren't entitled to it, but the emotional starvation of shouting into an unresponsive void will eventually cause many of us to peter out and stop creating. It's the equivalent showing your doodles to your parents as a kid and them rolling their eyes at you and going back to their candy crush without saying anything. Eventually you stop showing them, and then you stop trying altogether.

Ankou are cloaked, skeletal wraiths with bat-like wings, and sharp claws. While rarely seen by the general public, it has been noted by those unfortunate enough to have stumbled upon them that there appears to be a glow emanating from the folds of the creature's cloak where their heart would be. Their faces, although humanoid in nature, are a frightening sight to behold and leaves any surviving witnesses with trauma from the experience of viewing it.

Ankou are also sentient beings, and many offer assassination services on the black market, charging high sums for the most cruel and tortuous of deaths. While those with any sense would leave them to their chosen solitude, some (probably suicidal) individuals have hunted down an Ankou to claim their cloak which on the living will turn the wearer invisible.

If you happen to be looking for an Ankou, the most likely environments to check would be abandoned buildings, unmaintained cemetaries, and the most dark, desolate corners of our world.

Wondering if this dress that Marie-Joséphine wears in the film Chevalier counts as pink or not

In this photo, it looks pale pink to me, but in the promotional photos for the film, she's wearing the same dress and it looks like this:

which looks to be a light blue colour? And when I watch the scene in the film, the dress looks purple to me so I have no idea what colour it is. It's a very pretty dress, I just I wish I knew which colour to submit it for.

Hey! I didn't watch the film but I think it's purple/lilac? Idk what everyone else thinks, this is defo a tricky one

Introducing Periwinkle

The warm lighting on the semi-reflective material is what made it look pink.

"On Friday, the Gila River Indian Community, whose land is in what is now Arizona, made history — breaking ground on the first solar-panel-lined water canal project in the US.

“It’s an amazing opportunity to show that not just the Gila River Indian Community, but that a tribal nation can lead in water conservation and in generating green energy,” Stephen Lewis, governor of the Gila River Indian Community, told The Independent after breaking ground on the project.

Thousands of years of Gila River stewardship and decades of water rights activism came to a head as the Gila River Indian Community became the first in the western hemisphere and the second on Earth to begin construction on a solar-panel-lined water canal.

On the surface, this project is a breakthrough for green infrastructure in the US. The solar panel coverings will reduce water evaporation, while the water in the canals will cool the panels and make them more efficient in producing energy.

But the leaders of this project also say it’s also a major win for Indigenous sovereignty and water rights expansion, and presents an expansion of federal government assistance for green energy projects."

when i say i wish people started using the reblog button more i don't mean it in a 'i want more notes' kind of way i mean it in a 'i want to read about your thoughts on this particular thing' and 'i want to have conversations in the tags' and 'i want this to feel like a community again and not like any of those boring social media platforms where artists are content creators and interactions never goes beyond a like'

The Angka is similar to a Phoenix, but can live for thousands of years before they start their reproduction cycle. They are also much larger, comparable to some dragons in size and with a wingspan of up to 20 feet, and sporting colorful feathers, usually in irridescent blues and greens. The face of an Angka is usually more beast-like lacking a beak and looking almost like the snout of a lion or other large cat.

Angka are not as approachable as their phoenix cousins, territorial by nature and more than willing to eat those creatures that invade their space. They have no natural predators to speak of other than dragons, and maybe very ingenuitive humans if they aren't killed first.

Angka feathers are potent magical items, able to extend the lifespan of most creatures by a considerable amount of time. This comes with side effects, however, and will not render the consumer immortal. Collecting the feathers is a task in and of itself, as approaching an Angka nest, where they are most likely to shed, is an act of insanity if one wishes to survive the encounter.

if there's one thing we can learn from this booping experience it's that we need to give people notes and interact with them for tumblr to be fun and thriving

"we need the boop button to stay" no we don't. tumblr already got lots of buttons to press every day. look at those beauties right here ↘

I know it's a lot of words, but I just had to get some things off my chest. It's very unlikely the algorithm will show anyone this regardless.

For reference, this really only applies to juried shows. But I apply for as many as 70 shows a year; last year I did 22. And many of those were lottery or fcfs.

Anyway, like I said, this is largely me venting. Take it as you will.

You are AMAZING and I'm so sorry you're having to deal with this. This is the first year I've expanded and tried to do more than 4 cons in a year and I have been in waitlist hell for a huge portion of them. Especially when most of the cons I can even consider are in the midwest. Getting rejected/waitlisted for one of the few decent cons within driving distance can really sting.

Lemme know if you ever wanna chat cons or rant. I'm so impressed with your work and your AA breakdowns/reviews! Hopefully it'll start getting better! T_T

I have only done one show since covid.... and all of my stock and many of my display items were stolen from my car right after that show. So that, combined with rising costs of tables and replacement stock has effectively kept me off the show floor altogether. My car has been broken into two other times since then. It had never been broken into prior to that. It's about 300 bucks to replace one window on my vehicle which is my family's only vehicle, and we only have public parking so slumming it just wasn't an option. After three window breaks within like a year and a half, there just isn't budget for a replacement banner or prints AND the cost of a table which is upwards of 300$ now even at small shows. Like, it's getting hard to call myself a convention artist, when I can pretty much never go/get into shows at this point. So tl;dr, the convention angst is real guys. I even have a brand new fancy card reader that I didn't get to use because it came after that show in true bad-luck-Hailey style and now I'm like "why did I bother?" because it is probably going to sit in a box in perpetuity.

Right, considering the current state of corporate politics on this site, and that it seems that only those affected seem to be actively speaking on the matter, it is up to I, the only fucking cishet on tumblr, to drag this out to a wider audience.

I think the reason this is so morbidly funny is because we all know that business owners would still be outwardly acting this way if they could get away with it. They are just as out of touch with reality as Hetty, they just have PR teams to cover it up (some better than others).

A spectral white deer with fiery eyes, the Anhanga are protectors of the forest. While this form is their most well known, it is also whispered among the locals that they are capable of shapeshifting into nearly any animal form, as well as a humanoid shape. Because of their ellusive nature, it is unknown how many Anhanga currently exist, but it is assumed that they are born from the spirits of poached animals, or humans that have died protecting the forest. Anhanga are capable of strong illusion magic, and use it to keep those within their domain safe from outside dangers such as hunters. The illusions of an Anhanga have even driven some victims to madness as they attempt to escape the horrors they are shown.

Are you tired of seeing creatives begging you to reblog stuff? On this, the reblogging site?

Not as tired as they are of having to ask. I promise you that.

This post probably isn't going to be saying anything new and other people have definitely said it better but I'm going to reiterate it for you anyway.

Likes do nothing on this platform. Tumblr is not Instagram. Sure, it's nice to know that you liked the art, or the fic, or whatever it may be. But do you understand how disheartening it is when you share something you made and less than half of the people that liked it actually liked it enough to share it? Less than a third, really, because I know for myself at least almost every piece of art I post ends up with a 1:2 ratio if I'm lucky, and a good chunk of those reblogs are usually my own, trying to boost them so that they'll actually get seen. Because they won't otherwise.

Posts that don't get reblogged just get buried until they disappear entirely, and I've seen it happen to some amazing works, from far more talented creators than me.

Reblogging takes a second. You don't even have to leave a comment in the tags or anything (although it's obviously always very lovely when you do). Just...share the things you like. Help them get seen. It's a vital part of the ecosystem here and without it, you're liable to wind up with a lot fewer fanworks to enjoy.
