Are you in the UK and interested in meeting fandom people?

If you’re wary of a big convention but want to connect with likeminded fandom people in the UK then @writerconuk might be the place for you.

Each year in September we have a small weekend long event. It’s a bit like a convention, but a lot more relaxed and a lot smaller in number.

There’s panels, craft sessions, a quiz, regular breaks for drinks and socialising and a raffle (free as part of your ticket price).

This years event will take place on September 15-17 in the Ramada Hotel in Coventry.

Tickets are £39 for the weekend and include a goody bag, entrance to all the panels and workshops, entrance into the quiz and a raffle ticket.

On the agenda for this year’s event we have:

  • Music in fandom
  • Inspiration without plagiarism
  • Giving feedback
  • Writing the perfect line
  • Why we love fictional characters
  • Social media and fandom (discussion)
  • Craft session
  • Getting inspiration from the things around you

You can sign up on our Dreamwidth page here or via our website here

WriterConUK 2016

Welcome to writerconuk. We began in 2006 to provide opportunities for the virtual community to meet in real time.  Each year, we organise the Event, a weekend of activities for fandom Writers, Artists, Vidders, Betas and Readers.

Everyone has a role in fandom – this is your chance to mix with people who write, create, or simply appreciate the work of those who do.

It’s kept as a small event to allow people to interact and get to know each other in a relaxed environment so a maximum of 40 tickets are sold. We try and keep the event as close to non-profit as possible and if any proceeds are made they will be carried forward to be used in next year’s event.

Creative fans from any fandom are very welcome to join us. So far, we have members who list Jossverse, Sherlock, Elementary, Dr Who, Supernatural, Person of Interest, Great British Bake Off, The Vampire Diaries, Grimm, Discworld, Lucifer, Shakespeare, Tolkien, Mass Effect, Dragon Age, Check Please, Captive Prince, Marvel, Harry Potter, Pirates of the Caribbean, Hannibal, Torchwood, Lewis, NCIS, Firefly, The West Wing, The Dresden Files, and Jurrasic World amongst their fandoms. Your fandom not represented? Come and represent it! You’ll be amazed the number of people who leave this event with a new fandom by the end of the weekend.

The Event for 2016 will take place on 16-18 Sept at The Ramada Hotel in Coventry. Tickets are a bargain £37 for the whole weekend (accommodation not included)

Tickets can be purchased through our Livejournal or through our website. We also welcome content from any attendees so once you’ve bought your ticket if you have something you want to present or a group activity you want to get people involved in then you are welcome to suggest it.

If you have any questions or comments drop a note in our ask box.

Please reblog if you’re interested in attending or know people who you think might be interested.

2 Weeks to Go!

Just a couple of weeks to go until the 2014 event and it's not too late to buy a ticket if you're still thinking about it. Full details including a Paypal button to buy your ticket can be found here.

Remember it's a bargain price of £35 for the whole weekend.

We also still have some slots on our Pimp Your Fandom panel if you want to spend a few minutes talking about one of your fandoms and maybe getting some new people interested in that thing you love. Full details can be found here

And, remember, if you've got any questions just drop a note in our ask box.

If you're attending (or planning to attend) WriterConUK this year we are looking for people to take a 5(ish) minute slot to talk about one of your fandoms that the rest of us might not be familiar with.

How you do this is entirely up to you. You can just stand and talk, you can use props, you can do an interpretive dance, anything goes really.
