if you want me to follow the rules you have to make sure they're not stupid. this isn't a difficult concept to grasp.

PSA Dissipator Upper (or as I like to call it, the 'Dissapointer')

Picked this up mostly on a whim to fool around with. Going to do unholy things to it later. Thought I'd give my two cents on my initial impressions.

I overall really like the angle they were going for - here they re-created the Bushmaster style of 'Dissipator' (aka actual Dissipators) where the rifle-length FSB is a dummy and a shorter gas system is concealed beneath the handguard.

In this case, a mid-length gas system is used instead of carbine length and a low-profile gas block is used instead of a chopped FSB like the Bushys used. In theory, this gives the performance associated with a midlength system with the greater accuracy of rifle-length sights. I'm sure it's mostly negligible, but it's fun to think about.

Now here's where the criticisms come in - the low-profile gas block itself has only one dimple for the set screw, with the other merely tightened up against the outer diameter of the barrel. The barrel itself is a 'Freedom' barrel, PSA's in-house brand.

It was definitely made after the fact using a stock barrel, rather than purpose-made for the build. Supposedly there was a run of these using FN barrels, but I didn't notice it. This would be a good excuse to send the barrel off for getting the gas block pinned, but I think I'd much rather buy a higher quality mid-length barrel and get it custom made into a similar setup from scratch.

Not much to say about the rest of it, just basic low-tier flat top upper, standard A2 birdcage, the works. I'm mostly going to be using it as a testbed, so expect cursed things to come of this build in the future.

Dissipator, Block II

Hey, here's those cursed things I mentioned! That isn't a Daniel Defense RIS II, but an ohhunt 12.7" 'Mk.18 Rail', a Chinese knock-off that's supposedly rated for real steel. Bought it mostly for the meme and also because I refuse to own Daniel Defense products, but it's honestly kinda impressive for what you pay (sub-$100).

Obviously there's a lot of mystery meat as far as the metallurgy, but as a range toy, I'm definitely satisfied with it.

My main gripe is that there's BARELY enough space to get the FSB back in place, as the rail is right up against that fucker, but it went together all the same, barrel harmonics be damned.

Supposedly, people have gotten these rails to hold zero with LAM's, not that that's a major factor here, but kinda cool to know.
