If you can spare a few seconds, please click on this link and hit the pink “vote” button in the top right of the screen.

Since 2007, John and Hank Green have run the Project for Awesome every December on YouTube. Last year, P4A raised $1.5 million, which was split among Save the Children and the UN High Commissioner for Refugees and then 20 charities. This year, the two primary charities are Save the Children and Partners in Health, and the rest of the charities are chosen by online votes.

My charity every year is This Star Won’t Go Out. TSWGO was established in 2011 in memory of Esther Earl and has since given over $400k to families who have a child going through pediatric cancer treatment. These financial grants have been used for medical expenses, rent and utilities, and other items needed by the child with cancer.

Imagine the impact $25,000 could have on these families. So, if you have a lil time, please follow this link and vote for TSWGO. Thank you so much 💚⭐️

I remember the first Esther Day I celebrated, three years ago at LeakyCon. I remember hearing her story as though it were yesterday. The story of a girl with kindness in her soul and laughter in her heart. The story of the girl who inspired “The Fault in Our Stars.” The story of a girl who, when asked how she wanted her birthday celebrated, requested that it be a day where people vocally express their love for one another. A day like Valentine’s Day, but without the baggage, and not just limited to a lover. A day filled with pure love for all.

So on this August 3rd, on what would be Esther’s 22nd birthday, I will send love out to my family, love out to my friends, love out to all of you, and love out to Esther Earl, a girl who is no longer here, but is somehow still teaching us to open our hearts a little further, and to love a little deeper.

Happy Esther Day ❤️❤️❤️ @tswgobook

Two years!

It’s been two years since the publication of Esther’s book. I hope everyone who’s had the opportunity to read it loved what was in its pages and that future readers continue to love Esther’s life, stories, and message.

Hi, all!  Just putting out the word about Esther Earl’s charity fundraiser again.  TSWGO has some awesome things for nerdfighters on the the Indiegogo campaign, including these Hanklerfish postcards, painted by Hank himself!  If you can, please help this awesome charity support families whose children are battling cancer!

There’s one signed TFiOS film poster left, too! -rhr

This Star Won’t Go Out just launched their 2016 fundraiser. From their fundraiser page:

This Star Won’t Go Out would like to invite you to help make a difference in the lives of children who are living with cancer, and their families as they carry the financial burden associated such a difficult time.
Caring for a sick child can put strain on any family. At TSWGO we give grants in order to help pay for those things that health insurance won’t cover: mortgages, utilities, car payments, and other financial needs that may arise. Since 2011, TSWGO has granted over $350,000 and made a difference for hundreds of families. With your help, we will hit our goal and be able to help 10 families this spring!

And when you donate, one of the available perks is for my band, The Caulden Road, to write a brand new personalized song based on a topic you give us!

Or we can simply include your name in a brand new song, if you’d prefer that.

The new song will be recorded and produced to our high standards (take a listen to one of our tracks here), and will be released as a free download available to all.

The perk is a little pricey but that price was set by both TSWGO and us to cover half of our studio expenses (the other half I’m personally paying for), and a generous portion to TSWGO.

If you have the funds and a good idea for a song, don’t hesitate! Your donation is tax deductible.

Feel free to get in touch if you have any questions about this perk.

I read the entirety of this book today (all 430 pages, including both introductions) and let me tell you, what an emotional roller coaster it was. I can add myself to the long list of people who will be forever impacted by Esther Grace. Learning to love is a hard task, but it seems so small when someone so young puts her whole life into doing just that. Making sure those around you know you love them is incredibly important. Not only because you don’t know whether or not this will be the last time you see them, but because that is the good and loving and Esther-like thing to do.
