HETEROSEXUAL CIS-PEOPLE LOOK HERE

Snaps my fingers at you as you scroll past this post

Look at me. Listen.

I'm not the best at serious posts, but that article up there reminded me of how important it is that people like you stand up for us. So hold on while I try to get this out of my mushy end-of-work-day brain.

We could fight this fight ourselves for decades trying to reach the equal laws, gender affirming trans healthcare that doesn't have a 2-5+ soul-eating years of waiting time, medical care with equal knowledge of lgbtqia+ bodies, and, what is often forgotten, inclusion in the little everyday areas of life like our way of speaking or things being set up or designed with the existence of queer people in mind.

But you joining in could get us there so much faster.

The power you have as a hetero cis person is that you set the standard for what is seen as the average way of treating us among other hetero cis people. You have been given the power of deciding what's "normal" and I'm begging you to use it.

Richard Green is a great example of to what extent your actions can help our situation, and smaller ways of support still add up to a great impact on society, and could make the days of the queer people you interact with.

Educate yourself before you speak up, but don't be silent.

maybe i didnt come back wrong maybe i was just a weird freak when i was alive but i hid it and acted so normal and after i died i decided to stop pretending. maybe being resurrected was the perfect opportunity for me to be myself because i knew you would chalk it up to the horror of me coming back wrong. but the horror was always inside me. did u think about that

So p/atreon is amping up its lockdown on nsfw material, gumroads is amping up its nsfw material-

Pornhub is currently not available in texas.

KOSA keeps coming closer to getting actually passed-

Can people please just admit that nsfw is being driven underground? That adult artists are being banned and pushed out of their spaces?

And dont start saying "oh just the yucky stuff." No, this is *ALL* Nsfw.

We are losing spaces left and right...

Not only that, it feels like we creatives are being killed. And that isnt exactly hyperbolic.

Paypal implemented taxes not that long ago, a hit to those who use it. Artists especially. Midjourney and other ai, stealing artworks, having people think less of artists.

Platforms kicking and banning artists left and right.

It feels like being an indie creator is being choked out of possibility. That you have to be born rich and lucky for your creative dreams to come true.

"oh you're just a porn addict its not that bad"

Its not that bad until your stuff is banned.

We had ROE VS FUCKING WADE thrown out the window. You dont think we could have LGBTQA+ rights thrown out too!?

The internet is becoming SO HOSTILE to creatives of all sorts. Its fucking heartbreaking.

Its like we're entering nsfw prohibition of the internet, buy a 160 dollar keychain for a 'free' picture of a dragon fucking a Volkswagen 😭

Exactly. And if people think it's just 'porn' being banned, they're wrong.

The lgbtq community is going to be the first to be thrown under the bus, especially with states like Missouri proposing laws where teachers are not even allowed to address a trans student by their preferred pronouns.

In other states, merely dressing as you identify is now being deemed as 'pornographic' and a crime.

It doesn't matter how 'wholesome' you think your queer art or writing is. It's going to be lumped in with anything lgbtq, and as far as the alt-right is concerned, it will be seen as immoral 'porn'.

This ban is the alt-right taking yet another step over the line to see how hard we will fight back.

Give. Them. Hell.

KOSA is the next step, and if it passes, we're fucked.

Some creatives are talking to attorneys about suing. If you're being negatively impacted financially by these policies then I strongly recommend putting yourself on this mailing list at least.

and just to be really really clear:

sex workers have been hit first and hit hardest and we've got to follow their lead in this fight

remember SESTA/FOSTA?

remember EARN IT?

remember the SAFE Tech Act?

the US is a huge player in internet regulations but it's not just the US that keeps introdicing bills like this

If you have republican reps:

If you have democratic reps:

This is hitting the “Dramione” fandom—which pairs Hermoine and Draco from the Harry Potter series—particularly hard, because this type of fanfic is extremely popular on Etsy.

Interesting glimpse into Etsy’s demographics.

Also these dealers need to have their kneecaps broken.

Ugh the article is accountwalled. I know why they do it, but I don’t want to create yet another account for a page I probably won’t read again.

i actually have an answer for that! it’s because the site is owned and operated by actual journalists sick of their work being scraped by ai and spammers:

In December, we noticed that articles we spent significant amounts of time on—reporting that involved weeks or months of research, talking to and protecting sources, filing public records requests, paying for and parsing those records, hours or days of writing, editing, and packaging—were being scraped by bots, run through an AI article “spinner” or paraphraser, and republished on random websites.

[…]

Joseph’s article about how AI-generated plagiarism is showing up all over Google News, while our articles are not, was quickly picked up by a website called “Digital Information World” in a completely illegible, obviously AI-generated article called “AI-Produced Content Is Being Marketed Across Google News And The Company Is Aware Of It,” apparently written by Dr. Hura Anwar, a dental surgeon who publishes articles on the website roughly every six minutes, all day every day. Digital Information World is, of course, indexed by Google News.

[…]

Requiring an email address to read our articles has, for the moment, stopped our content from being scraped and repurposed by AI. It will also, we hope, serve as a preventative measure against the impacts of the internet being flooded by all of this AI-generated drek. We are worried that a flood of low-quality, AI-generated bullshit—articles written by robots to appease a robotic search ranking algorithm—is going to drown out what we do, and make it harder to organically find our work.

it still sucks that it’s necessary, but they’ve got good reasons imho

Encountered this last night while just looking up some niche information.

  1. The first link in search was a big site that is known for letting AI autofill its info erroneously, so I blocked that site.
  2. The second link was a helpful article written by a real person, but it only answered half of my questions so i kept searching.
  3. The third link refused to let me in unless I turned off my adblocker (ew, no).
  4. The fourth link seemed promising because it cited the third, blocked link for it’s information! … until I read it and realized it was info and exact wording from the second link that had been run through AI.

The Information Age has officially ended and the internet is broken. If ¾ of the top links even firefox search brings back are AI and/or piggybacking off each other’s work, Why Even Bother.

I would hate for my work on this site to be regurgitated elsewhere (though I’m sure it already has), but I put nowhere near the amount of effort into this blog as the average journalist does on an article, and that’s their career. Let alone an author or screenwriter whose worlds, characters, and catchphrases are being peddled by thieves on Etsy!

Because the majority of human existence has not been to the knowledge and supply level we are at now.  You can’t just give someone electrolytes in the 19th century, you have no idea what the fuck they are. Someone is sick, and can only keep weak liquids down, but you know enough at this point to realise that man cannot live on water alone.   So you work out really weird ways to infuse foodstuffs into liquids they can handle to try and keep food into them. A lot of these also come from a way to stretch nutrient sources in times of poverty and scarcity.

Thank you for this addition. People are curiously comfortable assuming everyone in the past was stupid and illogical, and it’s always struck me as showing a sad lack of empathy for fellow human beings. It’s like people in the past aren’t seen as, you know, people

Your local 19th century PhD researcher popping in here to add to this. Toast water is 100% a drink for treating illness. It turns up listed in several household medicine guides in the 19th century, and is listed as for treating people with fever, diarrhoea and vomiting, who can’t keep anything down. It’s essentially oral rehydration therapy.

It interestingly starts turning up in literature in the period covering five major cholera outbreaks in the UK and US (this was obviously an English language Ngram search).

And peaks several times at epidemic peak points (1830s, 1850, 1880s), including its first peak in 1831/2, which corresponds with the first cholera epidemic in the UK.

It also corresponds with the year William Brooke O’Shaughnessy discovered that a lot of people who were dying of cholera were severely lacking water and salts in their blood and urine. Dehydration was found to be a major cause of death in cholera patients. “Toast water” was suggested in the Lancet medical journal in 1832 as an initial treatment for cholera patients.

Most of the recipes in household medicine guides I found suggest sweetening or flavouring the toast water with something if the patient could keep it down in order to cover the terrible taste.

People in the past were just people. And in this particular case, they were trying to keep their loved ones from dying of cholera.

And here is a link to possibly my fave ever book, with some modern recipes to do the same job , including the water you cooked rice in with the water you cooked rice in plus half a teaspoon of salt - so really toast water was pretty smart - https://en.hesperian.org/hhg/New_Where_There_Is_No_Doctor:Dehydration#Rehydration_drinks

The human body is actually a marvel. It is just that our bodies are meant to move (not exercise, just lots of different movements throughout the day). Here is a video of the Hadzabe, one of the last hunter-gatherer tribes alive (when I was studying biomechanics I used to watch hours of these videos). They sprint, squat, walk, well into their 70s without any pain.

I know we can't change our professions, so if you are dealing with neck pain, carpel tunnel syndrome etc, please try to maximise your recovery by eating and sleeping well, and if you can, try visit a physiotherapist or check out physio-pedia.com My best general health advice is: get barefoot shoes, and walk on uneven terrain once or twice per week. Without getting too much into detail: the feet have evolved over millions of years to adapt to the terrain we walk on to provide stability. There are many bones in the feet allowing them to become many different shapes. These shapes affect the kinetic chain above the feet (ankle, lower/upper leg, hips, lower/mid/upper back, neck). All these structures try to organize themselves to keep you in balance and move you forward, a beautiful interplay between your body and gravity. Due to the uneven terrain, your body will take on many different shapes which keeps your body healthy. With narrow shoes you will limit some crucial movements/shapes your feet should be able to make, so something else will have to compensate to make up for that movement option your feet are lacking. Often times, you will get lower back pain. I used to get it all the time when walking in Timberlands or Nike court shoes. Anyway, barefoot shoes are not the most trendy, far from it, but they are bringing out better and better designs each year. Remember, start with once or twice per week 30 minutes, uneven terrain (start soft, grass, forest, meadow), relax your entire body, feel your weight transition fully on your feet as you walk, let your arms swing naturally, let gravity help you.

The tax one is a little silly. Real living humans don't even need to file tax returns until they hit an income threshold.

No, those embryos can be claimed as dependents for tax deductions

international people start calling our country aotearoa instead of new zealand challenge

aotearoa is the te reo name for our country, commonly translated as "land of the long white cloud" as the story goes Kupe was guided to our whenua by following a long white cloud in the sky. new zealand is a name which was forced on us by colonizers who stole our precious land less than 200 years ago. by reverting back to the māori name you are metaphorically giving the land back to the tangata whenua, the people of the land, and we can begin to normalize using the proper names for things that should have always belonged to māori

heres a link to a good pronunciation, i recommend practicing saying it along to the video. but please remember that even if you cant get it perfect, say it anyway!! its better to try and get it slightly wrong than not try at all

here’s another pronunciation guide that goes into more detail about how vowels are pronounced in te reo and the structure of the correct pronunciation!

while you're at it, sign te pāti māori's petition to officially change the country's name! anyone from anywhere can sign, please support this kaupapa to restore naming rights to tāngata whenua!

Yall wanna be gnc and androgynous but hate intersex people and the idea of being intersex so much, I remember reading about PCOS potentially being considered an intersex disorder and having 100s of people dismiss it because "we can't just be calling 1 in 10 women intersex" or being in transmasc spaces and constantly being told that bottom growth and T dicks are undesirable and that people find non standard genetalia gross, in a GENDER INCLUSIVE SPACE.

The lgbt Community seriously needs to grapple with its hatred of intersex features and stop seeing androgyny that isn't pretty waify white person. You all love femme presenting androgyny but hate when people are androgynous in a broad or hairy way.

white people please just purchase native artwork and jewelry from native people i keep seeing idiot white people be like “waaah i wish i could support native creators but its cultural appropriation” girl why would beaders sell you their earrings then. just dont get a medicine wheel or a thunderbird then like damn it is that easy

If Native folks are making it to sell to white people with the approval of their tribe, it’s not “appropriation”–its support and appreciation! So yes, buy that native-made dream catcher, but not the mass produced fakes made by white people. Like, you can go to a pow wow and buy native crafts there, too.

"What is he, your boyfriend?"

When I first watched The Old Guard I noticed that Joe and Nicky looked for each other on the kill floor, fought in sync, curled up asleep together, met in the Crusades. But I rewrote all of it because I was so unused to movies having canonically queer couples. I anticipated that they were "just friends" to such a degree that I missed that they slept in Goussainville beneath a giant banner of a sacred heart. I missed that when Nicky said "the love of my life" he meant it. I rewrote every look and touch until an armed mercenary tried to mock Joe and Joe shot back: "He's not my boyfriend. This man is more to me than you can dream." And my whole world tilted on its axis.
