The Effects of Destruction

         Maxie leaned back in his bed, taking small breaths. With the rise and fall of every breath simply lead to more pain as he felt the broken bones in his chest. Broken ribs? Perhaps. He swallowed, the taste of metal touching his taste buds. “I believe something is.. broken…” he let out a grunt of pain and tried to sit up, eventually making it up. 

        He seemed to be in a realm of thinking that made the broken bones feel not as painful. He imagined breaking bones would feel worse, but it didn’t seem to fell more than extreme lightheadedness and a large amount of sore joints along with the taste of blood and hurting when taking breaths. He assumed this was a mechanism the body did when things like this happened, but he had never been one for body studies. 

        Archie seemed in far more pain than was expected from a rival. Tender touches, brushing of the hair, support, this seemed all very out of character for the Team Aqua leader. Was he really missed that badly? It honestly took Maxie off guard, making him feel a tad bit guilty for being out for so long. How long did they say again? He couldn’t remember. He continuously glanced from Archie to the doctors back to Archie once more, waiting for a respponse

        it seems like the pain is finally starting to catch up to maxie. archie frowns. ' yeah, you got a few cracked ribs. do ya feel it? they can give you painkillers. ' and at those words, a doctor comes to maxie's side with a few pills in their hand and a glass of water in the other. they're handed to maxie, who can now take them himself, and the doctor gives a weak smile that doesn't even reacher her eyes before she turns away.

        archie clasps his hands in his lap, staring down at his black leather shoes quietly. every time he visits maxie, he changes into something he knows the other would approve of. nothing over-the-top, still a little casual, but sophisticated enough. before the incident he'd wear that wetsuit or dress like a slob whenever he got the chance, just to annoy, the redhead, but these circumstances are different.

        ' how are ya feeling? they wanna get you up and walking in a few days. can't have you in bed all the time. '

        his voice is low and soft, like he's talking to someone very fragile. not exactly the truth. ' you'll be back t'normal in no time, i'm sure of it. '
