Mama Mewon Snakification Modifications!

The first thing I did with this one was recreate the body texture. I knew the subtle veiny patterns were just voronoi cell patterns, which was easily recreated in TextureLab, and the stripes looked to be masked with some sort of jittered dots at their edges. I masked out the stripes in blender, which was a bit more tricky because texture painting directly onto the 3D shape was finicky.

The limbs and nose were easy, the round melon gave a very nice simple organic shape to work with, and cutting a rind out gave a sharp shape for the claws and horns. The head part was originally just going to be some watermelon slice spikes, but I found that too dull and ended up replacing it with some vine whiskers instead.

Next up is the Wee Melon... The last one

Oh if anyone's wondering what I'm referring to when I mention TextureLab, I'm referring to this: https://www.texturelab.io/

Waffstackarak Snakification Modifications!

Definitely my favourite part of this one was the body texture. Recreating the waffle grid was surprisingly easy, it just required some tiled squares with subtle circular gradients in them, and then run through a colour gradient map. For the normal I just used the same grid with a basic noise texture overlay.

The sausages as limbs was a no-brainer, though I wasn't really sure how to work with the waffle model. I don't think I've ever eaten waffles before anyway.

Do you have any plans to release these mods? Maybe if or when you finish the whole dex?

Yes! I am VERY close to finishing and I will release once all the snakifications have been modified!

I have left now only Waffstackarack, Mama Mewon, and Wee Mewon. After that I might touch up some of my very first modifications (The snakpods) and then release the mod to the public.

Tropicabug Snakification Modifications!

I once again got to flex my TextureLab skills by recreating the grilled pineapple and prawn patterns to use for the body, and I think that turned out nicely! I also spent a fair amount of time turning the prawn model into horns, which I am very pleased with the end result of.

I didn't mind the original pineapple teeth at all, but with my new body texture they blended into it too much. Making them purple onion slices helped them to stand out more.

Though to be fair, I should keep in mind more that the whole point of snakifications is to mix and match looks. That said, I've hit the randomizer on a few grumpuses and been pretty pleased with the result most of the time.

Snaquiri Snakification Modifications!

I knew long before starting this one that I wanted to use the 'umbrella' part as frills and bat-like wings. Did I go a little overboard here? Maybe. But I think I like how it turned out regardless.

The Snaquiri didn't give much to work with other than the umbrella and toothpick. Perhaps I could've used the glass, but I didn't feel like it lol.

Preying Picantis Snakification Modifications

As the original Incherrito and Picantis body textures have a very similar style I decided to sorta keep to that and reuse the modified Incherrito body pattern, using the textures of the Picantis. I hope that makes some sense the way I've explained it.

I liked the original mantis arms a lot so I decided to keep that idea rather than giving the the usual hands or claws.

Fun Bugsnax fact: The Tacroach textures match those of the Preying Picantis, therefore we can see what the Picantis looks like with the Baja Tacroach textures.

Maybe when I am done with Snakification Modifications I will make new modded bugs, and I will turn this into a new Preying Picantis variant. But with the Incherrito body replaces with that of the Inchwrap.

Tacroach Snakification modifications!

While the Tacroach has a pretty easy colour scheme to work with, the Baja Tacroach was a bit more chaotic to work with. Fortunately, by focusing only on the shell, the brown meat filling and the fish meat pieces, I was able to get a visual scheme that I actually ended up liking more than that of the standard Tacroach.

Something very interesting and fortunate about the Tacroach is that it actually uses a duplicate of the Preying Picantis textures, while only using a small part of it. This left a lot of unused texture space for me to put in my own textures, in this case some wide area of meat and fish textures.

The fish texture recreation was done in Texturelab using some repeating lines and gradients with directional warps.

Megamaki and Minimaki Snakification Modifications!

Essentially the only difference between the Mega and Mini snakifications here is that the Mega has roe on the horns, limbs, and the front of the body. Even then I kept the roe on the nose and the shrimp tail claws on the limbs of the Minimaki features to add some more orange back into overall colour scheme. I also changed the Minimaki grumpus body texture to have roe eyelids simply because I preferred them lol.

Removing the roe from the Megamaki parts and adding them into Minimaki parts was surprisingly challenging thanks to the rice texture and still ended up with quite a few visible texture seams, but they aren't super noticeable if you don't look too closely.

I quite liked the little shrimp tail horns from the original Megamaki snakifications, but I wanted the horns to look like proper horns so I repurposed the shrimp tails into the head part.

Sandopede and Sub Sandopede Snakification Modifications!

Truth be told, this one took me a while because I wasn't sure what to do with it. The bread model/texture was easy to work with and had a lot of possibilities, but the Sandopede is a sub sandwich snak, not a plain loaf of bread snak.

The lettuce was the second easiest element to work with. It made for some nice limb frills, head webbing, and gave the appearance of the horns having moss hanging from them. The onions/yellow peppers were also easy to just use as the claws and head spines. I kept to the same theme as the teeth, with the Sandopede using the yellow peppers and the Sub Sandopede using red onions.

As for the rest of the sandwich fillings, I wasn't sure what to do with them. I ended up just adding extra detail to the limbs, which I'm not super pleased with how it turned out, but it's not terrible. Sometimes less is more when it comes to detail, but I still had to make this snakification look like sandwiches, not just bread and lettuce.

I did something a little different by putting a ham slice over the eye socket like an eye patch marking and I actually like how it turned out. Lucky for me every grumpus has pretty much the same geometry around the eyes and the top of their heads.

Ultimately I ended using the higher-detail designs for the Sandopede snakifications, and the lower-detailed versions for the Sub Sandopede snakifications. Both variants had very similar snakifications original, so I kept to that in my version.

Strabby Snakification Modifications!

I didn't do anything particularly special or complex for the game's mascot bug, but in the same sorta fashion as the Razzbies, I don't think there was a whole lot that could've been done with it. Sometimes simple is better, especially for a snak with a visually busy texture.

The leaf fingers and toes I did reuse from the Razzby snakifications, as they both snaks share the same leaf geometry anyway. Even from the start of this project I knew I wanted the Strabby arms to have leaf fingers, at it is very common for them to be portrayed this way in fanart.

Looking at these screenshots I'd say the red Strabby snakification is much more pleasing to look at than the White Strabby, despite having the same geometry. I suppose that, like the Inchwrap and Incherrito, it's due to the textures. Though perhaps the slightly different lighting between the two sets of images doesn't help.

Scoopy Banoopy Snakification Modifications!

Both this one and the Scoopy use a neopolitan ice cream body texture, so when remaking this body texture I decided to make it a fair bit different to the Scoopy's patchy, camouflage pattern. I kept the 'three layers' look, but made it look a bit more natural. I used the same textures to make the body texture, and spent quite a lot of time getting the placement and noisy edges looking just right.

There's not too much to say about the rest, except I once again had the limbs use a different ice cream colour based on size. Chocolate for tall limbs, strawberry for medium limbs, and vanilla for short limbs.

Spaghider Snakification Modifications!

For this one I admit I did reuse the Noodler limbs, but still, it wasn't exactly easy to repurpose them. I pretty much had to re-seam and re-unwrap all the UVs, which was pretty time-consuming given all the individual noodle strands.

I also did something similar to what I had done with the Sodies in rearranging the bug's UVs, so as to make room for more texture space. I used this extra space to copy over part of the body texture, which I used for the limbs and horns.

Your Bugsnax modding is so neat!! I’ve only started to dabble in 3D modeling but your work is absolutely inspiring!

Are you going to put the mods on Nexus? I’d love to do a Bugsnax run with your Snakifications!

Avatar

Thank you!! :)

When I finish this mod I will absolutely be sharing it both on Nexus and as a direct download for people who don't wanna make a Nexus account. I am really looking forward to seeing other people play the game with my modifications!

I am nearing the end of the project, I'd say I have maybe a couple months left at most.

Sodie Snakification Modifications!

Buckle up because I have a LOT to tell y'all about the making of this one.

From the beginning I knew I wanted the new Sodie snakifications to be based more on the liquid drink itself rather than the straws and can it comes in. I knew that would involve some playing around with new materials, but I had no idea the ordeal I was in for.
