the loyalists treat corvo as fully disposable because they’re so set on othering him due to his heritage and believing that he’s fundamentally unable to reach their level of being “honourable gentleman”, outsourcing the dirtiest jobs to him because they’re above doing anything of that sort, and the way it all plays into corvo becoming more a ghost than a living man once he breaks out of prison. the way they treat him like he’s already dead to them, and a dead man can’t be honourable, a dead man can’t have needs, a dead man cannot suffer. he’s only alive because they’ve allowed it, for their own agenda, and they treat him like he’s living on a borrowed time.

These too omg

Dishonored is a game all about death, really. But also, new life. Jessamine being murdered at the very beginning ends Corvo’s life almost as much as it ends hers, and he’s left for dead in Coldridge, awaiting the executioner. But the loyalists help him to get out, this dead man walking, and they give him a mask that looks like a skull to emphasise that - he’s a dead man. And in the end they underestimate him, they forget that what is dead cannot die, and that if he can wreak his vengeance on those who wronged him before, he can do it to them.

I feel like the arc of dishonored really has a theme of death and new growth. At the beginning he’s about to die, as is Dunwall -he’s about to be sent to the executioner, and Dunwall is dying from the plague. When the loyalists help him to break out, he’s basically a passenger in their story, a pawn in their game of power. This is good for Corvo, sure, as it means he can eventually get revenge on Hiram, the man who really took his, and Jessamine’s, hell even nearly Emily’s life. And he can start to help Dunwall to slowly regain life too, by his actions, but it’s not really his story at this point. It’s once the loyalists poison him and leave him for dead, for the second time, that he truly starts to come back to life. He starts with nothing (and can actually choose to not get his Loyalist gear back after Daud throws it away), and now it’s HIM who’s escaping from the prison and gets himself out, and it’s truly his story now. He’s dead and so can’t die, and he uses that to help Dunwall to gain new life from its death, and there is no better personification of that than Emily. She’s his and Jessamine’s daughter, she is Dunwall’s re-emergence from death, she is the new life that his, Jessamine’s, and Dunwall’s death has helped to grow

romancing garrus in mass effect 2 is hilarious actually. shepard just comes at him one day and is like dude you're my best friend and we might die soon so we might as well fuck. and garrus is like sure. but meanwhile they're telling each other shit like: "i want you. i want someone i can trust" and "i want a few moments that are just for us before we throw ourselves into hell" and they never acknowledge this at all. they never speak about romantic feelings or having a serious relationship until the next game even though they're clearly in love with each other by then. i just imagine shepard speaking with someone about it like, garrus and i? yeah we're just friends! it's all casual! i would literally die for him though. and the last thing i want to do before the suicide mission is spending a passionate night with him. but he's just my bro <3
