Planet earth is terrifying I hope I never see a volcano

hey, you should be glad these things are around, they’re a sign that Earth isn’t going to let cosmic radiation cook you alive anytime soon!

volcanoes erupt when plumes of liquid magma rise up through the more sluggish magma closer to Earth’s crust and melt their way up to the surface, like how the cheese bubbles up through your pot of unattended macaroni! (except WAY less delicious)

and this magma rises in the first place because it’s been superheated by Earth’s core, which is a constantly-rotating semifluid ball of supercompressed hellfire iron hotter than the surface of the sun!

the unimaginable pressure down there combined with the physical rotation turns Earth’s heart into a primitive dynamo engine that generates a powerful magnetic field, which acts like an enormous forcefield and prevents most of the cosmic radiation Earth encounters from ever reaching the surface!

which is good, because it would immediately blast the surface of the Earth clean of life if it ever did make landfall.

so if you ever do encounter an erupting volcano, remember that all things are connected, and stop to give Mama Earth a pat of thanks for protecting you from the cosmic forces of the universe which would very much like to make you extremely dead!

and then run like hell.

Where do you think Hotaru, Michiru, and Haruka are in the future of Crystal Tokyo? We only see Setsuna in the flashforwards, so I wonder what happened to the rest of the Outer Senshi...

Maybe they’re out guarding the outer planets like they did during the Silver Millennium? Although I don’t really like that headcanon because it makes me think they’d be lonely like they were before. So maybe they split their time between guarding the outer planets and spending time in Crystal Tokyo. After Chibiusa comes of age and gains the Sailor Quartet, I can definitely see Hotaru returning to become part of her team full-time.

Ooooooo I could see them guarding the outer system, but also ambassadors welcoming intergalactic diplomatics (the events of Stars, naturally, brought the Sol system into the intergalactic community. I'm sure Uranus and Neptune switch up which castle they use depending on their local planetary seasons and where they are in orbit in relation to incoming visitors. They hold lavish parties that Neo-Queen Serenity struggles to outdo once those visitors make their way to Earth.

why none of them got into The Good Place

What I love about this is its acknowledgment that Jason had no intentions at all

this is all 100% true but it always made me really mad that Chidi’s “crime” was having a severe anxiety disorder like he needed understanding and therapy, sending him to the Bad Place for something he had literally no control over was incredibly fucked up

I feel like a less-surface theme of the show is that they’re all in a situation where they have been forced into bad patterns by forces outside their control - Chidi has SEVERE anxiety; Eleanor was forced by abuse and neglect to adopt a self-centered attitude from early childhood and, like many people with traumatic pasts, responds by not dealing with difficult emotions; Jason was very overtly raised in an environment where he got no education and all his models for behaviour were criminal and/or self-destructive; and Tahani has been raised in an environment where everything is performative and she is shot down for any genuine expression of unhappiness or non-material want. Just as Michael and Janet are made one way but changed by their experiences, the moral of the story is that things outside your control shape you but you can move away from them. That could easily be really insulting, in a sort of ‘just get over it’ way, but the idea isn’t that they change solely because they decide to be better - all six of them change because their circumstances change and give them the OPPORTUNITY to be better, because they’re finally given the support system they lack.

I like The Good Place because the whole show has since day 1 been predicated on the idea that black and white moral judgements made in a vacuum are bullshit, and that moral choices are informed by things outside our control, whether that be education, behaviour modelling, unfair treatment or mental health issues. That doesn’t mean we aren’t responsible for our actions but it DOES mean we have to understand morality in the context of people’s varied experiences AND asks for the possibility that if their environment is improved, their ability to function as moral agents also improves.

honestly missionaries are evil. the idea of traveling the world to tell people Who Didnt Fucking Ask that their beliefs are wrong in the hopes that theyll adopt your beliefs seems sinister

The Christians in the notes whining are so absolutely stupid

I don’t even want to talk about how they specifically target poor people and hold basic necessities over their heads in exchange for faith.

“I read about an [Inuit] hunter who asked the local missionary priest, ‘If I did not know about God and sin, would I go to hell?’ ‘No,’ said the priest, ‘Not if you did not know.’

‘Then why,’ asked the [Inuit] earnestly, ‘did you tell me?” -Annie Dillard

(edited to remove slurs/dated language)

My culture and our religious practices (Inuit) have been decimated by Christianity and I fucking hate pretending its a neutral thing.

Christians in the notes still don’t get it. They’re saying that missionaries aren’t that bad bc they’re just trying to save all ppl and they’ve started quoting bible verses and whatnot but here’s the thing: I. Don’t. Believe. In. That. Like your beliefs and scriptures are non applicable to me (and everyone else who isn’t Christian, or at least abrahamic) bc we’re not christian and I literally don’t care if you think we “need to be saved from Satan” or smg bc frankly, it’s not your business and that “well meaning, innocent” intention is still forcing your religion onto us. OP is right. Missionaries are evil. Leave other religions tf alone.

One half of my family is Native Christians via forced conversion.

The other half is white Christians, including missionaries.

I can tell you that missionaries don’t just invalidate other religions (mainly indigenous religions) to try to convert people, they blatantly hold valuable resources hostage to convert people.

They’ll provide books to communities with low literacy rates… but all the books are bibles or otherwise Christian-centric.

They’ll host free meals for the whole community… but the people have to attend a church sermon before they’re allowed to have food.

They’ll host events and groups for kids… but all the education and activities are about Christianity.

Missionaries blatantly take advantage of scared and vulnerable communities, who are like that because of Christian colonialism, to forcefully convert them and kill off their religions and cultures.

Honestly, the belief that if you know about God and don’t accept Jesus as your savior, you’ll go to hell is why I consider all missionaries to be arms of a death cult.  You’re trying to guarantee that everyone who isn’t exactly like you burns forever in the fiery pit.  How is that an act of goodness or benevolence?  How is that kind?

Introduce hell as the stick and “sharing the goodness of God” is no longer a carrot.  It’s another stick.

Back in the day when I was still active in my church, we were supposed to do summer tutoring for a week in an immigrant-heavy area. We were given the impression that they struggled learning English and math, and therefore we were doing good. And as a treat on Friday, we were going to go on a trip to the science museum for kids.

When we got there… the kids were fine. They already were well ahead of their grades.

No one told us that.

Know what they also didnt tell us?

All of these families were Muslim.

Friday is their holy day.

Out of the ten families we were tutoring, only one let their kid come on the field trip. And it always left a bad taste in my mouth and only later did I realize that we were all being manipulated by the mission. All of us.

I get masks are good right now.

But when customers have what looks like 2 or 3 different masks on at the same time it makes it *really* hard to understand what you're saying.

I made a fake disability ID card does that make me a bad person

“We were in Europe a couple years ago and we went to this museum and I went up to the ticket taker and I was like, ‘Hey, I read on your website that you let people with disabilities come to the museum for free?’ And she was like, ‘Yes, but I’m gonna need to see some ID proving that you have a disability.’ And I was like, ‘What do… I mean, I have one leg.’ And she’s like, ‘Yeah yeah, but do you have disability ID proving..?’ I was like, ‘I don’t - I mean, do you think this is an optical illusion?  Or like an elaborate costume I’ve created to get into your museum for free?’ She’s like, ‘Alright, I’ll let it slide just this once, but next time, make sure you have the ID.’

“Now it turns out that in Europe they do have these disability ID cards. We don’t have anything quite like it in the United States, but we went back to Europe the next year and we wanted to go to that museum again, so before we did, I printed off this, like, fake disability card. [Laughing] It’s just an American flag and a disability symbol. We went back to that museum, I showed them the card, they’re like, ‘Oh great. Yeah, go on in, for free, to our museum.’“

Bless the hearts of every single european in the notes going, “but if americans don’t have disabled IDs, how do people with invisible disabilities get free museum passes / free trains / other nice service?”

Disabled people in america get slightly better parking and that’s it. And you get that with a doctor’s approval.
