Thorin responds to the affectionate
touch to his hand with a soft squeeze. He knows he owes his sister what she asks for. He owes her far more than he could ever possibly repay, for his mistakes had lead to the death of her sons. His actions had robbed her of her children. No matter what Dis asks, he will do, if only she would join him beneath their mountain. He knows of the sweet memories held within Ered Luin, and he is not immune to their pull. But they haven’t the luxury of listening to their own hearts. Their blood dictates what they must do, their fate, their very destiny. What they desired, what they lusted after, mattered little if it did not further their people. Luckily ( or perhaps rather tragically ) Thorin wants for little more than the good of his folk – But he wants for the good of his sister above all else.
“As you will it, so it shall be.” Thorin tells his sister. Getting rid of such wealth would take time, and would be detrimental to the rebirth of Erebor, the mountain bears valuable fruits, offering gold veins and gems hidden within ancient ores, their wealth would surely recover.
“You will want for nothing. I will see to that.” Thorin moves forward, knocking his head against his sisters, their skulls colliding in an audible “thud!”, a tender display of affection among their folk.
Dis closes her eyes and purses her lips into a semblance of a smile as her brow meets her brother’s.
When they part, Dis looks up at her brother, blue eyes meeting blue eyes, “How far we’ve come, Nadad. Through everything, we stand side by side, stronger than ever. I don’t think could have done any of it with out you, Thorin.”
Never in her 181 years would Dis have imagined that her life would end up as such. She thought back to the day the mountain fell and the emotional reunion of brothers and sister, where they vowed forever to hold each other closest to their hearts.
