I had this idea for a looping animation in which a single dot has a pretty long loop, but the animation as a whole is much shorter. Because of the repetition this animation is only 1 second long!

New sleep style: hitting the snooze button so many times that you sleep two additional hours in ten minute intervals. I call this Horse Sleep

Worse sleep. That was meant to say worse sleep

I Am So Fucking Tired

Literally immediately after reblogging this to correct it I went "wow, it has a reblog already?" And got all the way to checking my notifs before I realized. That it was me.

I actually wasn't that far off you guys

HOLY SHIT THE POST IS SAVED

Anyway horse sleep: sleep, but horse. Worse. Sleep but worse. Definitely one of the two.

We shall have a summer wedding

best thing about tumblr is seeing pictures of Weird Creatures I’d never heard of before

Tufted Pigmy Squirrel. I learned of it recently and was immediately delighted

Oh my goodness!! I’d never heard of it either, and am also delighted!

Reblog to delight your mutuals

If I may delight you further with more unusual squirrels?

The tufted ground squirrel or groove-toothed squirrel (Rheithrosciurus macrotis) native only to the island of Borneo. They have the largest tail-to-body ratio of any mammal- their tail is 130% of it own body. Local legends call them “Vampire Squirrels” and say that they wait in trees for deer to pass beneath and then fall upon them and drink their blood (They actually eat nuts).

The Indian giant squirrel or Malabar giant squirrel (Ratufa indica), native to India. Looks like it was drawn by your favorite sparkle artist with rave-ready colors of gold, magenta, and blue-black/purple.

You may think you’ve seen some cute flying squirrels before… but have you seen the Red and White Giant Flying Squirrel (Petaurista alborufus)?

This… this is a pokemon you guys…

Supposedly a real animal that lives in China.

I had seen the first 2, but I don’t think I’d seen the red and white flying one! It’s lovely! It looks like it’s wearing a fancy mask, or perhaps skull makeup.

LMAO the last one! The strongman’s immediately like “No. No, absolutely not. Nope.” and the bodybuilder looks around like “Are you kidding me? I’ll die. You know that, right? I’ll die?”

The Rogue, the Paladin, the Barbarian have a day to themselves and enjoy some friendly competition.

This is such a fun video to watch. Not only do you see 3 versions of masculine fitness and strength but with each movement you can almost see where their weight is distributed and where they place their control. Which makes it fun to think about body builds and fantasy characters.

little bits of irish history for curious hozier fans: street signs edition

Do you love the song Butchered Tongue? Pay attention to these lines here:

ok stay with me

In 2008, the Irish government passed legislation that made it mandatory for road signs in Ireland to have both Irish (Gaeilge) AND English names on them (or, in Gaeltacht areas where Gaeilge is still the first language, only in Irish). Here’s an example:

The Irish, or Gaeilge, is always above the English and italicised. This is because that while Gaeilge and English are both official languages of Ireland, Gaeilge is the ‘first’ official language

However, while it was technically only legislated in 2008, bilingual road sings in Ireland had been extremely common for decades prior to it officially being made law. In fact, the first bilingual signs date back to the early 20th century - before our independence from Britain!

In Tom Spalding’s book Layers: The Design, History and Meaning of Public Street Signage in Cork and Other Irish Cities, he found that the first recorded bilingual street sign was in Blackrock, Dublin (An Charraig Dhubh, Baile Átha Cliath). Their local council in 1901 rolled out yellow and black bilingual road sings as part of the Gaelic Revival.

The Gaeilc Revical was a period of time in Irish history that saw a huge resurgence of Gaelic art, sport, and language. Literature was written by Irish people about Irish history, current affairs, and folklore. Traditional Irish music was learned and played again. Gaelic games (Gaelic football and Hurling) spread across the country. And Gaeilge, our language, was to experience an incredible revival.

Despite Ireland’s long colonial history, Gaeilge actually remained the majority tongue until the early 19th century. However, a combination of teachers beating children for speaking it at school, the genocide of the famine wiping out mainly poorer communities more likely to speak Gaeilge, and the knowledge that speaking English unfortunately provided more opportunities than Gaeilge, the language was almost killed off. (This is shown most clearly after the 1800 Act of Union that meant Ireland was ruled directly from London, with no parliament in Dublin).

Although these maps make for grim viewing, Irish is so very far from dead. Our children learn it from the ages of 4-18 in school (though I believe it can and should be taught better, but I digress). Gaeltacht communities are still going strong particularly in the west of the country. There are more Irish-language schools (gaelscoileanna) than ever before.

And every day as we pass by road signs that display Gaeilge proudly, it is as a result of decades, centuries of people refusing to stop speaking our mother tongue despite incredible violence.

I am far from a fluent Irish speaker, despite my 14 years of learning the language in school. But what Gaeilge I have, I have proudly.

(The work isn’t over, however. I do not feel knowledgeable enough to speak on Northern Irish efforts to implement more widespread bilingual signage but anyone who wishes to share some info please do!!)

i mean this in the gentlest way possible: you need to eat vegetables. you need to become comfortable with doing so. i do not care if you are a picky eater because of autism (hi, i used to be this person!), you need to find at least some vegetables you can eat. find a different way to prepare them. chances are you would like a vegetable you hate if you prepared it in a stew or roasted it with seasoning or included it as an ingredient in a recipe. just. please start eating better. potatoes and corn are not sufficient vegetables for a healthy diet.

Need it to be easier?

  • baby carrots (good dipped in ranch)
  • Celery sticks (add some peanut butter or cream cheese for extra flavor and protein)
  • Broccoli (good with ranch, cheese, or salt/pepper/butter)
  • Canned peas (you can microwave in a microwave-safe bowl. Good with salt/pepper/butter)
  • Bell peppers (cut into strips, good with cream cheese)
  • Canned green beans (can be microwaved in microwave-safe bowl. Good with salt/pepper/butter)
  • Hummus (good with crackers or tortilla chips)
  • Salsa (good with tortilla chips)
  • Guacamole (good with tortilla chips)

Need it in something?

Can't see it:

  • Hummus
  • salsa
  • Guacamole

Can see but disguised flavor (can usually be found store bought or done at home and use different veggies):

Texture problems:

Need it soft:

  • Hummus
  • Salsa
  • Guacamole
  • Cooked carrots
  • Avocados
  • Beans (personally I prefer black beans and canned baked beans)
  • Peas (make sure to cook well, great value brand has the softest peas I've tried)
  • Cooked broccoli (note: it does smell bad while cooking)
  • Cooked asparagus (note: also smells bad while cooking)
  • Cooked zucchini and squash (good together but can be eaten separate)
  • You can also puree most vegetables and eat with a spoon or use them as a dip

Needs to be crunchy:

  • Raw carrots
  • Raw celery
  • Raw bell peppers
  • Salad (remember you can put whatever you want in it! Even if that means no lettuce)
  • Most veggies are okay raw, and are usually very crunchy

Veggies google says stay crunchy after lightly cooking:

  • Snap peas
  • Brussel sprouts
  • Cabbage
  • Water chestnut
  • Bamboo shoots

Broad texture tips:

  • You can change textures by eating raw, cooking, chopping, pureeing, etc
  • You can separate different textures to use in different ways (ie using broccoli tops in a soup and eating the bottoms raw)

It also really helps to think about why you dislike a vegetable. I found that I am scared of green foods so I like to use those veggies for ingredients in things they are well hidden for. I've also learned that watching something while eating helps because then I'm not looking at the gross green things. When possible, I also like to get help hiding it (ie using cream of celery soup in my chicken and dumplings).

@1kittynoir1 replied to your post:

What did it get used for? 👀

It's not done yet, but it's the facing, collar, and cuffs for the patchwork dressing gown I'm working on! It was less than half a metre of silk/rayon velvet that I dyed in college because the sample we did of that colour was so nice I wanted a bigger piece. (It was PRO MX fibre reactive dye in the colour Marine, and I don't have my dye sample book with me right now but I think it was at 4%. It shows up more green on some fibres and more blue on others, but is always gorgeous.)

I had no specific plans for it at the time, but eventually the perfect project came along, and there was just enough!

I've been working on this thing (intermittently, in short busts) for a few years now, and am finally done the patchwork and on to the construction. I've posted occasional updates on @vincentbriggs and will post photos there when I'm done.

I've also been filming the whole process, so I'll have a video about it up on my youtube channel eventually, but that'll be a while after it's finished because I have so so so many clips and it's going to take a horrifyingly large amount of editing.

It's based on this c. 1835 original, which is a good 50-100 years later than what I usually sew, but I like it and I wanted one.

If anyone's wondering how many triangles mine has, it's 6,957.

Since I've got the time consuming part out of the way I'm hoping I can get the construction done before winter officially ends.

Edit: Why does everyone think I had a bad time working on the triangles?? I loved working on them, it was so satisfying to put lots of little bits of colour together. The reason I worked on it intermittently is because I could not put it down once I got working on it, and would work on it all day for several days straight until I was very tired and sore, and then I had to put it away to stop myself, and then I'd forget about it for a few months.

Also, they're machine sewn. Most of the actual garment construction will be by hand, but the patchwork is all by machine.

I finished my dressing gown.

And besides the velvet, it of course used up a lot of other little bits of fabric!

(Once again, my sewing and other non-dinosaur works are mainly posted on @vincentbriggs)

Video finished :)

It's an hour and 13 minutes long and I say 11,785 words in it.

i want to build up my skill set to one day be able to make something like this!!!! #op this is 1) absolutely gorgeous & 2) so much helpful information! thank u for sharing 🥰 #all the shots of twirling in the finished garment made me so so happy i got a little teary-eyed??? #‘it looks very nice. it reminds me of — you know when people have extra nipples?’ #absolutely Took Me Out i hollered #like that comment toward the end of such an earnest video? so unexpected. so fucking hilarious

Thank you!! Good luck on your sewing! And I'm glad my Very Correct nipple observations were appreciated

I have had the honor of working on two different comics projects with Don Hertzfeldt. But this is the story of my first interaction with the man.

I do love the phrase executive dysfunction bc the image it conjures is of a bunch of people wearing business suits around a long oval conference table  arguing with each other to the point where they’re getting into physical fights, but in the background there’s just a big empty whiteboard with a To Do list with one item on it and that item is “take shower”

Might be gone?

Tumblr keeps sending me emails that my password is stolen even if I change it, so my account may be compromised. Not that I use it. I exist on twitter more if anyone is interested.

tl;dr: If I start posting shitty things, it’s not me.

On occasion I still get time to draw. When I am not sick or busy.

Normally I don’t and lay down instead, but on this occasion I drew Kat, my next D&D character. Based off an old D&D NPC I had. She was once a rogue, and is now a sorceress. She is still a bartender, and still has much tiddie.

Was experimenting with style things, it’s not really finished but meh. c:

Anyone still post here? I’ve ignored it since the new rules :D More active on my twitter (same name) if anyone misses me. ;P
