VI. The Lovers || Fray Myste & X’shasi Kilntreader

love • unions • partnerships • relationships • choices • romance • balance • unity

“She was the person I wanted to protect most in this world. When you find someone like that—someone you would give anything to save—your hearts are connected so deeply that there can be no barriers between you.”

For me The Lovers has always been a card about virtuous choice, and what one values, and what happens when you find unconditional acceptance. Shasi and Fray are not romantically linked, but they are, in a way, soulmates, and this is their first time communing.

@mafumafuriah did such a wonderful job capturing my vision of these two! If you get the chance, I highly recommend working with her! I am already looking forward to commissioning her again. ♥

I crave the most innocent parts of a relationship. Like holding hands and forehead kisses and being able to tell someone how much I absolutely adore them.

Also, is FF14 worth getting into?

I’ve written TWO novella-length fics about it THIS YEAR, plus a 30-day challenge, plus one-offs.

Clearly I am enjoying my time in Eorzea.

You have to like the thing that it is, I think.

It plays like a Western MMO, which is to say they borrowed things like being able to queue for dungeons with random players and actually generally having enough quests to level up on. There’s a main storyline you can (should) pursue, which gives quite a bit of XP, and doing your daily dungeons etc makes up the difference.

Combat is a bit slower than in WOW (the only other MMO I’ve spent a lot of time playing) because the GCD is longer. However, fights involve more movement than WOW and to me have a more engaging design philosophy.

The story is … a Final Fantasy story. Your PC is a special chosen hero and you and your supporting cast go around solving people’s problems and saving the world. I think the base game story is good (certainly better than other MMOs I’ve played), but it gets really good in the expansions.

There is a free trial, and there’s a referral program that will give you some small extras. If you start on an underpopulated server, they give you an XP boost and some other extras (tokens for gear, a bit of free playtime once you hit a certain level). The server I’m on used to be underpopulated but isn’t anymore, but you can do dungeons across servers and sometime in the next six months there will be free transfers available across all servers before the expansion (they’re trying to rebalance population).

It can take a bit of time to get to endgame (I was very slow, but maybe a month or two is closer to standard, depending on your available playtime of course) but the expansion is due next summer, so you could get caught up before that if you wanted to play it when it comes out.

Do you have to sub for it?

Oh right. Yes. $15 a month if you want to have more than one character per server (not necessary in the strictest sense, you can level all classes and crafting on a single character, but I do that roleplay thing), a bit cheaper (I think like $10) if you don’t. The game itself goes on sale pretty often, though it was just marked down for Fan Fest (the game’s convention) so I don’t know if it will again until winter sale etc

I’ll keep an eye out, then!

$13 for the other sub, evidently.

You are so going to judge me for the characters I choose to feature.

Just wanted to let you know I'm finally getting into FF14!

To the tune of John Denver’s “Take Me Home, Country Roads”

Almost heaven, West Attolia Sacred Mountain Sep-er-chia River

Country roads, take me home To the place I belong West Attolia, mountain momma Take me home, country roads

All my memories, gather round her Eddisian lady, stranger to blue water Dark and dusty, painted on the sky Misty taste of sweet wine, teardrop in my eye

Country roads, take me home To the place I belong West Attolia, mountain momma Take me home, country roads

I hear her voice in the mornin' hour, she calls me She reminds me of my home far away Walkin' down the road, I get a feelin' That I should've been home yesterday, yesterday

Country roads, take me home To the place I belong West Attolia, mountain momma Take me home, country roads

Country roads, take me home To the place I belong West Attolia, mountain momma Take me home, country roads

Take me home, (down) country roads Take me home, (down) country roads

And The Band Played Waltzing Hephestia

Wheen I was a young man I carried my pack And I lived the free life of a rover From the 'perchia's green basin to the dusty outback I waltzed my Hephestia all over Then my country said, "Son It's time to stop rambling 'cause there's work to be done" So they gave me a tin hat and they gave me a gun And they sent me away to the war And the band played Waltzing Hephestia As we sailed away from the quay And amidst all the tears and the shouts and the cheers We sailed off for the Shallow Sea

How well I remember that terrible day When the blood stained the sand and the water And how in that hell that they called Sukir Bay We were butchered like lambs at the slaughter Johnny Mede, he was ready, he primed himself well He showered us with arrows, and he rained us with shells And in five minutes flat he'd blown us all to hell Nearly blew us right back to Attolia And the band played Waltzing Hephestia As we stopped to bury our slain And we buried ours and the Medes buried theirs Then it started all over again Now those who were living did their best to survive In that mad world of death, blood, and fire And for seven long weeks I kept myself alive While the corpses around me piled higher Then a big Mede shell knocked me arse over tit And when I awoke in my hospital bed And saw what it had done, how I wished I was dead Never knew there were worse things than dying And no more I'll go waltzing Hephestia To the green bushes so far and near For to hang tent and pegs, a man needs two legs No more waltzing Hephestia for me

So they collected the cripples, the wounded and maimed And they shipped us back home to Attolia The legless, the armless, the blind and insane Those proud wounded heroes of Sukir And as our ship pulled into the quay I looked at the place where me legs used to be And thank Miras, twas was nobody waiting for me To grieve and to mourn and to pity And the band played Waltzing Hephestia As they carried us down the gangway But nobody cheered, they just stood and stared And they turned their faces away And now every April, I sit on my porch And I watch the parade pass before me I see my old comrades, how proudly they march Reliving their dreams of past glory I see the old men, all twisted and torn The forgotten heroes of a forgotten war And the young people ask me, "What are they marching for?" And I ask myself the same question And the band plays Waltzing Hephestia And the old men still answer the call But year after year their numbers get fewer Someday no one will march there at all

Waltzing Hephestia, Waltzing Hephestia Who'll go a-waltzing Hephestia with me?

Commission work for @the-blogman, who never quite gave up on me writing Ravenor content again. Thank you for your patience and your faith.

[M/F][Gideon Ravenor/Patience Kys][The Lacuna][NSFW][Porn with feelings][Guided Masturbation][Commission work]

It is the sunsets that give Hesperus their name, and the last rays of the sun paint the sky in violet-pink-orange, glimmering on the finials of the theatre. It has been a mild summer, I am told, but the long evenings and drowsy mood it engenders are well-suited to my purposes.

I cannot help but think of how my purposes have changed as the people around us mill about beneath the theatre’s facade. Us, I say, because of course I have not come alone. Patience Kys is with me—as she has been with me for much of our time on Hesperus. A hand is splayed lightly over one of the glossy plates of my force chair, in much the same way other ladies rest their hands on their companions’ arms.

“ A vague shape, amorphous, hung suspended in a stasis tube, veiled in a sheen of blue light. The tube apparatus was connected to a wealth of humming, pinging, gurgling mechanical equipment. It looked as if most of the infirmary’s battery of devices had been hooked up to it.

‘Oh, Throne,’ she whispered.

'He’s resting,’ said Nayl.'He’s going to need a long, slow recovery time.’

<…>

Kys stepped forward. She felt numb. She couldn’t really see what was in the tube. It was just a dark blur, but she could feel what was in it. She reached out her hand and touched the glass.

'Gideon?’

+Patience. + The send was distant, like a whisper.

Tears sprang up in her eyes.

+l’m so sorry, Gideon, I’m so sorry! I should not have left you. I should never have—+

+Shhhhh,+ the whisper sent back. ”

(Dan Abnett, “Ravenor rogue”)
