It Me.

@doomfinder / doomfinder.tumblr.com

I mostly just reblog things that I like; stupid memes, art, roleplaying stuff. I play Warmahordes, Pathfinder, and World of Darkness for those that care. I am absolutely horrid at remembering tags, but I do try. That being said, Gore, Nudity, and...

The entire 3-minute city ambiance scene from Ghost in the Shell (1995) is already one of the best moments in all of cinema imo, but I NEED to talk about my absolute favorite part from it:

That brief moment when Major Kusanagi and a stranger with her exact same body model catch a glance at one another. How quickly the initial curiosity of seeing the doppelgänger turns into a feeling of unease as the boat carries her away.

She will never meet this stranger. She'll never know anything about her other than the simple reminder that every piece of her cybernetic body is not unique to her. There is no part of her other than her brain and all its memories that she has any true ownership of, and even that isn't immune to being hacked and potentially erased by outside forces. Despite being a part of a bustling city, all she can do is reflect on how utterly isolated she feels as a living being.

How can she possibly define her humanity when she herself is confined in the form of what is essentially a highly modified weapon? How can she relate to others when she has more in common with the mannequins on display in a shopping mall than with the any of the people walking the streets?

All of this inner turmoil at one’s own existence conveyed without a SINGLE word of dialogue spoken. Now that's the power of cinema if I've ever seen it!

Toothpaste companies must really hate people who are allergic to mint toothpaste, which a lot of people are! Apparently it's NOT supposed to burn like minty hellfire? (I'm fine with mint candy, it's only mint toothpaste that hurts)

I've been using Tom's fennel for years, but am now trying to find one with fluoride in it, and finding a toothpaste that is no mint and yes fluoride should not be such a huge and infuriating quest. still got some more grocery stores to search, but not even the children's toothpaste in the nearest one had any that were suitable.

alright the lyrics I put in the tags on the original post & in a later addition were kinda rough because I couldn't think of replacements for all the religious lines, but it's been rotating in my mind all day so here's a better version of Minty Hellfire:

Advise me, my dentist, you know I'm a hygienic man of my flossing I am justly proud.

I brush every surface, my gums shed not a drop of blood,  no single cheat day ever I've allowed.

Then tell me, my dentist, why it's never good enough,  why the pits of rot still mar my teeth.

I must switch to fluoride? But every option I can find  is full of minty pain beyond belief!

Like fire, Hellfire, this fire sharp and fresh.  To clean my enamel should not inflame my flesh.

It's not my fault! I'm not to blame!  It's Colgate, Sensodyne, and Crest who've set this flame!

It's not my fault, if every brand  has added twenty times more mint than I can stand.

Protect me, oh grocers! Don't let the menthol touch my lips,  don't let its fire sear my mouth and gums.

Provide me with fluoride, but not laced with the fires of Hell,  and I'll keep all my teeth for years to come.

Hellfire, mint fire, is all that I can find.  I may be required to order paste online.

(Thank you again to everyone leaving suggestions in the notes, I have a grand Toothpaste Quest ahead of me! Checked another store today and found no paste, but I did get strawberry kid's mouthwash that says "maximum fluoride", so hopefully probably that won't burn.)

so the house of representatives just passed a bill that will now move to the senate to BAN tik tok completely in the united states and they are expected to argue that “national security risks” outweigh the freedom of speech and first amendment rights. biden has already said that if it gets to him, he will sign it. whether or not you use the app…….this is something to be worried about

before u have the kneejerk reaction of “good I hate tt anyways” or “maybe ppl will go outside” that’s not what this is about! the government wants to remove an entire app with over 170 million american users (who in large have used it as a platform to build community, consume and spread world news, advocate, organize), and try to force people back to us based apps like meta and google. please think about the implications. please think about what else they could potentially do if they get away with this. this could very well set a precedent for free speech & constitutional rights as well know it, and it is imperative we are on the right side of it

By the way, the actual language of the bill would allow them to ban any website or internet hosted app from a "foreign adversary", as described in the vaguest possible terms. This isn't about tiktok and will not stop at tiktok.

now, THIS is the "tiktok ban bad" post to reblog.

The more people who use Firefox the better! It's got versions for the desktop, android, and iphone, all free. In addition to ublock origin there are thousands of addons. You could also consider using one of Mozilla's paid products, such as their VPN, or donating to the Mozilla Foundation, in order to ensure they're able to keep going.

Not to be Old on main but I remember this exact thing happening in the late 90s and early 00s. I remember it very well. Microsoft pushed out all the browser competition with Internet Explorer, at which point both browser and web innovation stagnated for years because why fix something that's broken if everyone is using the broken thing anyway because there are hardly any other options. If you want to know how bad it was, Internet Explorer did not have browser tabs and it certainly did not have any sort of adblock. And everyone just lived with it.

I am watching the exact same thing happen with Chrome in real time today and that's why I always reblog these posts and sometimes am extra annoying and add on to them. I don't want to see it happen again because it sucked. Please use Firefox. Use it on mobile too (it has browser extensions!!! Including ad blockers!!!) And reminder that Edge/Brave/Vivaldi are all built on Chromium and you should not be using those either. Those browsers will show up as Chrome on tracking analytics and it does not help the overall project, which is showing web developers that Chrome is not the only browser people are using.

Your passwords and other useful things transfer to Firefox, btw. Go make the switch. You have nothing to lose.

Most websites that tell you they need Chrome to work are lying, even if they block you from accessing them if you're not using Chrome. They just do not want to support the dev work to optimize for anything else, or may have a special deal with Google.

Fortunately, there are Firefox extensions that just basically tell websites "yeah, I'm definitely Chrome. don't worry about it"

Please note I have not used either of these, because adblockers and script blockers are good enough at disabling those annoying messages.

Okay, you're all correct. But does this post not have timestamps for anyone else?
