Friendly reminder that the application for the 2019 Trans Youth Leadership Summit is due TODAY!⠀

Trans Youth Leadership Summit (TYLS) is a collaborative fellowship program providing young transgender people the opportunity to work toward liberation through collective organizing for solidarity, advocacy, and empowerment. TYLS fosters the skills of dozens of emerging Trans and Gender-nonconforming leaders and puts them at the forefront of critical issues transgender people face. We are bringing together revolutionary young trans leaders to heal from transphobic violence, build communities, learn how to enact restorative justice, and create direct action.⠀ TYLS looks toward root causes rather than simply covering up the effects of anti-transgender violence.⠀

 For more info/application, visit -> https://buff.ly/2Sw4qhd⠀

Think you know a young trans leader that you could nominate for TYLS? Visit -> https://buff.ly/2Sw4spl⠀

Make sure to send in your application by 11:59 PM CST!! Good luck, folx!

Hey, so I recently bought a binder from GC2B but it’s too big. I was wondering if you could help explain how to send it back and get a new one, because I don’t want to spend too much money and I can’t ask my parents for help. I live in the UK and it’s an American run business, so I’m not 100% sure what to do.

Hi there,

GC2B has an exchange policy that you can take a look at here. They ask that you try to send the binder back within two weeks of delivery, and will send you a store credit coupon you can use to select a new binder! I believe that your best option regarding shipping would be to use an international shipping option from your national mail service.

At the bottom of the website I linked to, you can also use the GC2B “contact us” form if you have any questions I haven’t been able to answer! From what I know, GC2B has good customer service. Best of luck!

“THE TRANSEXUAL MENACE – NEW YORK CITY,” Camp Trans members, including, from left, Riki Anne Wilchins, Leslie Feinberg (September 1, 1949 - November 15, 2014), and Prof. Minnie Bruce Pratt, Oceana County, Michigan, August 1994. Photo c/o R. Wilchins. For more on Camp Trans—and for other incredible stories from trans history—check out Rhys Ernst’s (@rhysernst) “We’ve Been Around” (wevebeenaround.com). From its inception in 1975, the Michigan Womyn’s Music Festival (MWMF)—a week-long music and culture festival that sought to provide lesbian-feminists and lesbian-separatists a safe environment free from domination, oppression, and interference by men—maintained a “womyn-born-womyn” policy, and therefore excluded trans women from attending. In 1991, trans activist Nancy Burkholder was ejected by MWMF organizers after an embarrassing interrogation; according to TransAdvocate.com, “what happened to Nancy sparked the first community-wide response to the Trans Exclusionary Radical Feminist (TERF) oppression of trans people,” which found its roots in womyn-born-womyn radical feminism and in the trans exclusionary outlook of gay cis-male activists like Jim Fouratt. Perhaps most notably, Burkholder’s experience gave rise to Camp Trans, led by Leslie Feinberg, who died two years ago today, and Riki Anne Wilchins. Camp Trans “consisted of several dozen trans women and supporters who leafleted [MWMF] attendees and held workshops and readings that attracted hundreds of women from the other side of the road.” Wilchins noted the significance of Camp Trans: “…it was the first time that significant numbers of the hard-core lesbian community backed us.” While an official change in MWMF policy never came, resistance to the festival grew, with attendees and artists withdrawing until organizers announced that MWMF 2015 would be the last. #lgbthistory #HavePrideInHistory #TransWeek #CampTrans #WeveBeenAround #LeslieFeinberg (at Oceana County, Michigan)

Hi so I've been on T for 9 months now and the last couple months I've missed my shot three times. I missed my Monday one because I got so bogged down with work and it just slipped my mind. Can missing my shot cause any major issues? Like prevent changes from happening all together even if I get back on a stable schedule?

Missing one shot every once in a while won’t have much of an effect. It’s only when you miss shots so much you basically stop T that you’ll start seeing changes, like your period restarting or some of the other reversible changes reverting back. In the future, if you realize you’ve missed a shot, just catch up on it as soon as possible. And missing shots won’t stop you from transitioning at all. The only way for that to happen is if you stop T altogether. So if you get back on a regular schedule of shots, you’ll continue to transition normally, no matter how many shots you have missed in the past.

It can often be helpful to set an alarm on your phone to go off on a specific day as a reminder!

Are there any Planned Parenthood health centers near me that offer hormone replacement therapy (HRT)?

A few people asked us:

Hello! I was wondering if you have an updated list of your locations that offer HRT? Thank you!
Does planned parenthood offer hormone replacement therapy in the state of Florida ? If so, which cities?
are there any PPs in oregon that offer hormone replacement therapy?

We got y’all. You can find a list of the Planned Parenthood health centers that offer trans health care services, which may include hormone replacement therapy (aka HRT), at the bottom of this page.

Planned Parenthood’s health care services vary depending on the location, and sometimes the services offered can change. So if you don’t see your local health center on that list, call the health center to double check if it’s offered.

If your local Planned Parenthood health center doesn’t offer HRT, call them to see if they can recommend a trans-friendly doctor in your area who does. You can also tell them that you want this service and what it would mean for you. Our health centers do their best to meet the needs of people in the community and they value your opinion.

(Hormone replacement therapy can also refer to a type of treatment for the symptoms of menopause and perimenopause. If you’re looking for hormone therapy for menopause, contact your local Planned Parenthood health center to see if they offer this service.)

trans guy here - is lactation still possible after top surgery? not planning on needing it ofc; just curious

Hey,

I initially had no idea, so I’ve done some research and concluded that the answer is “sometimes.” It generally depends on the type of surgery done, which will determine if someone is able to lactate at all - and also how much they’d need to lactate.

If you’re interested in learning more, checking out this source or this one might be helpful. Content warnings for lacatation (obviously) and pregnancy.

The Return of the Transgender Care Packages

Followers! I’m incredibly happy to announce that we are finally restarting the TCPs! I know it’s been a while, and I’m really thankful to all of you who stuck it through with us as we reorganized.

Because it’s been so long, here are some reminders:

  • We’ve localized the entire program, so it should be faster to get a package.
  • We’re still not going to be able to get everyone, and we know that, but we are donation driven, so we can only send out as much as we receive.
  • Our fundraiser is currently down, since gofundme bought out youcaring. We’re working on getting that set back up.
  • If you were told specifically that you were going to get a package before we went on hiatus and are still interested in receiving one, please message us.
  • I’m going to pick new people to receive packages the same way we did before. You will be notified if you are chosen and asked to confirm the address and contents of the packages.
  • We ask that you take a picture of your package once you receive it and submit it to us off-anon if you are able, to prove that packages are being sent out.
  • We always accept donations of gently-used clothing and money to cover shipping costs. Message us for details.
