The hunted becomes the hunter

Vampire. 400+. Writer. Daughter of the Bard. Yes, that Bard. I chose to be turned into the monster I've become, and for that I've been on the run for half my life, hunted by those who killed my loved ones. But no more. Now, I fight back. Now, I hunt the hunters. The name's Tessandra Shakespeare. You can call me Tess, if you want, but if you call me Sandra, I will claw your eyes out.

Tess and Nadia || neveratraveller

Nadia had finally been able to get home after a group of hunters who had been chasing her, it definitely wasn’t her favourite activity. She sat down after putting a pot of tea on the stove and began to take off her shoes. She hated when the hunters found her and she had to run away from them, vervain being thrown at her left, right and bloody centre. She looked up when her door was kicked in, a small sigh escaping her lips. “Do you mind? I am trying to relax.”

Tess lowered her crossbow, her expression growing curious at the reaction she received. People normally screamed bloody murder when someone kicked their door open wielding a weapon, but she seemed unimpressed. “My apologies, I believe I’ve got the wrong address,” she commented with a small grin. “You wouldn’t happen to know of a gang of men living nearby?” she asked, studying the other woman for a moment. “I’ve been tracking them, but they’ve proved to be... oddly elusive.”

Tess and Nadia || neveratraveller

Tess had been tracking a small group of hunters for a few hours, trying to figure out where their base was. She had a pretty good idea of it by now, so she felt confident as she approached the cabin on the edge of the woods; it seemed like a simple enough job. She kicked the door open and was surprised to see there was no force keeping her out. However, when she looked around the room, all she saw was a girl, no trace of the hunters. “Uh,” she commented, holding her crossbow up. “Not what I was expecting.”

Cora did not doubt that she made the right decision. Caution was a necessity, not something exercised whenever someone felt like it. “That’s a bold statement,” the teen commented.

She could only shrug. “Take your time, go for it… I don’t honestly care really.” The teen was particular about certain things, but at the moment… she had to admit she was relatively carefree. Or at least trying to be, she wasn’t too sure if she wanted her mother’s possessions now or later. It already hurt.

Tess offered a small shrug in response to her comment. “Most wolves have got honour, most hunters do not. Experience has taught me that much,” she explained, her words spoken quietly, but with a little frown on her face.

“Well, then let’s go. So maybe you can explain the situation in town a little better,” she proposed, opening the car door. “I’ve just gotten here and honestly, it’s hard to keep up with this town and its messes.”

“Klaus is a firm believer that it is better to be feared I think, Elijah has been hoping that the baby will bring out the best in Klaus though, I’m still skeptical on that bit” Emilia could still remember a time when Klaus had been kind, but that was centuries ago and they were all much different people now.

At the comment about setting Emilia’s coffin on fire, the Original laughed. “I like you. You got … .what’s that word? Spunk I believe? None the less I hardly think that will be necessary darling, I’m never going back inside that box again”

It was a promise, one that Emilia had made when she first awoken in Mystic Falls a year ago. “And … Elijah tends to do that. Always so willing to play hero to whatever lost cause catches his fancy. No offense meant love”

“I don’t completely disagree with Klaus, but it can’t hurt to have a little humanity left,” Tess reasoned, scrunching up her nose. “Babies can work miracles,” she admitted, and for a moment, there was a genuine smile on her face. “My mother used to say, only the dead are past redemption. But she was more of an optimist than I am, to be honest.”

Tess laughed along with her, offering a little shrug. “I try my best, but thank you,” she responded, her lips distended in a smile, though her expression turned into a sort of grimace as she added, “And I really hope so, it must be hell.”

She couldn’t help laughing at the way she described Elijah, and gave a small nod. “None taken. Mostly because yes, I’ve been a lost cause for quite some time, but when I hit rock bottom, he’s the one who pulled me back, no one else,” she recounted, her expression now softened once again in a smile. “That’s why I’m here.”

[ Okay, so this happened.

I have a student whom I tutor three times a week, because he has serious issues with English grammar. Last Monday, his mother called me and asked if I could have an extra lesson on Sunday (tomorrow), other than the three we already had planned (Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday), because he has a test on Monday and he wants to be prepared. A little skeptical (it’s not that hard of a test) I still accepted, but I told them I only had time in the morning, because I have to go out afterwards.

It was all set and I adjusted my plans for tomorrow, when suddenly, Thursday night, he tells me he won’t be coming to the lesson on Saturday (today). It seemed a little strange, since his mother asked for an extra one. But I didn’t think too hard about it. Until an hour ago, he texted me and asked me if we could extend tomorrow’s lesson to double its time.

So I call his mother to explain I can’t, because I’ve barely squeezed the lesson in as it is, tomorrow.

And you know what I find out? That that fucking piece of shit of an ignorant idiot told his mother I wasn’t available today, so he could go out with his friends. I’m fucking going to fucking kill him.

So the result is that tomorrow, I have to probably skip lunch to do the fucking extended lesson because he had to go out with his fucking shithead friends and I swear, I want to throw a chair in his face. Please tell me I’m allowed to throw a fucking chair in his stupid fucking face.

TL;DR: I have to do a double lesson on a Sunday and possibly skip lunch because of it. Because my student is a fucking piece of shit and I swear, if it wasn’t for the money I would fucking punch him. ]

She supposed if she lived as long as the average vamp… she’d only be that much more distrustful of those around her. Frankly, it was interesting to Cora what Tess became friends with her mother for starters.

Cora shook her head and let out a sigh. “I doubt I’ll ever trust them.” She walked closer towards the car. “Where are we going?”

“That’s a good policy, believe me,” Tess commented with a slow nod. “They can be good allies, but to be honest, I’d trust a werewolf more than I trust a hunter.” And given how much easier it was for a werewolf to kill her, that meant something.

Once they reached the car, Tess leaned against the side of it. “To get your mother’s things. As someone with an incredibly elongated lifespan, I don’t believe in waiting around, but if you’d prefer that, just say so.”

“…Given who my brother is, that was probably a logical assumption to be honest” Emilia mused, exhaled a breath of exhaustion. It wasn’t easy to love Klaus, especially after all he had done to them. “I don’t particularly remember what he did with those caskets, no doubt Nik is keeping them just in case” She admitted offhandedly, though there was some bitterness in her eyes. “What of you? Do you have no family to call your own?”

“One that Klaus encouraged, if I gathered correctly,” Tess confirmed with a small sigh. She wasn’t overly eager to meet Klaus, though she hoped parenthood had made him a little less inclined to acts like those. “If I ever stumble upon them, I’ll make sure to set them on fire, then,” she offered, not even jokingly; she could only imagine how furious she would have been if she’d been stashed away for decades at end. At her question, she chuckled, her turn now to show a hint of bitterness. “Good family is gone. My father’s around, but as far as family should go, Elijah is the closest thing I have.”

She knew better than to comment on someone’s affairs, especially when it was related to family. Some boundaries must be respected. Cora continued on, rubbing her hands together in an uncomfortable, persistent fidget.  She tried not to think of her family if avoidable… it was just better that way.

“There are some people I trust. Only because they have proven that I can trust them with my life. The Argents, though… I’ll never trust them. Any type of trust would be the death of me.”

Tess kept walking, and when her car came into view, she pointed at it to show Cora. Still, she kept silent, listening to what the she-wolf had to say about the hunters and the Argents.

“I’ll never trust any hunter, but I do work with them when they prove worthy of cooperation,” she admitted with a small shrug. “I’ve stopped trusting hunters a long time ago, but I hope you won’t be given further reason to.”

“The very one, you can call her little wolf if you like, I know Niklaus and I do” Emilia retorted giving Tess a quick glance over her book. “Emilia, Rebekah is …  well she was blonde for a time, now it’s dark hair and very curly. Did Elijah mention us to you?” She was curious about this, and it showed in her tone. It would explain why the vampire seemed to look at her with such mistrust, sure Emilia was infamous but she doubted her name was as well known as Klaus, Kol, Elijah’s or hell, even Rebekah’s.

“I’ll make sure to keep that in mind, though that seems a family-only type of naming,” Tess reasoned with a little smile. She’d heard about Hayley and Hope, about the whole ordeal with the wolves to protect her. But she hadn’t met them yet; so far, she’d kept at distance, studying the situation and gathering information. “Oh yes, he’s spoken quite extensively about you and his other siblings. And by Elijah’s standards, that means he told me your names,” Tess joked with a small laugh. “Truth be told, the only time I got him to actually talk a little bit about you lot is when he thought Klaus had stashed you on the bottom of the ocean.”
