Brazil is no longer a democracy

Our elected president, Dilma Rousseff, who had the vote of 54 million people, was removed from office by corrupt, conservative and right-wing men with the support of our largest media corporations and members of the lower and upper houses. Michel Temer, the men who seized power was President Dilma’s vice-president. He betrayed her, helping the right-wing and conservative parties to stage the coup. It’s been less than a week since Temer became brazil’s illegitimate president, but he and his cabinet (formed entirely of wealthy white men) already dealt several blows against the poor and the minorities in our country.

Temer extinguished the Ministry of Policies for Women, Racial Equality and Human Rights, and the Office of Policies for Disabled People. The office that was in charge of investigating corruption and assuring government transparency was also disbanded. We have free universal health care in Brazil, but the new Ministry of Health (who is an engineer) said earlier today that the right to health should not be universal and that our Constitution “assures too many rights” for the people and that it’s impossible to maintain all that.

The new Ministry of Justice had a similar position in Sao Paulo’s state government before being called to join Temer’s illegitimate government. Under him, the number of deaths caused by the state police raised by 61%.

In 1964, Brazil suffered a similar coup, though it was staged by the military. People here were censored, arrested, tortured and killed while attempting to restore democracy, which finally happened in 1985. To prevent something like this from happening again, it’s important that the illegitimate president is not recognized by other countries. The world needs to know what is happening in Brazil.

And, yeah, I’m not kidding - Temer’s entire cabinet (all 24 ministries, no exceptions) are wealthy white men, many of them under investigation for corruption and other crimes. 54% of our population is black. 51% are women. People are protesting on the streets, specially the women, but our media corporations refuse to show it and keep feeding us pro-coup propaganda as if it were the actual news.

Understand what is happening in Brazil

when i was very small i assumed this song was about some lady who literally kept a human face in a jar by the door and since father mckenzie buried her that meant that he also killed her and basically i thought eleanor rigby was about zombies until i was like 12 years old

This is so much better than anything I could’ve envisioned listening to the song.
