In regards to the TG:re fandom as of chapter 114

Before I post this, I’m fully aware that I’m probably going to get a lot of flak for saying this, but I really feel the need to convey some thoughts that I’m sure other people agree with me on.

Tokyo Ghoul:re chapter 114 has made a lot of people angry, concerning what Ishida has done to Mutsuki’s character. (I for one don’t have a problem with Mutsuki’s character but that’s besides the point.)

Some people have the strong belief that Ishida has invalidated transgenders and the entire notion of transgenders being given proper respect. I can understand where these people are coming from, seeing that Mutsuki was the only character declaring she wanted to be male, which would give Mutsuki quite the spotlight for people who both support transgenders or are transgenders themselves.

I understand the frustration as over time, Mutsuki’s character kept evolving into something that would slowly turn many of her previous fans against her, and in turn Sui Ishida himself. Now, with the acts that Mutsuki committed in chapter 114, some of these previous fans now hate Tooru Mutsuki, hate Sui Ishida and a few of which have claimed to have dropped Tokyo Ghoul entirely, just because of this one scene.

As much as I understand how these people feel, I still must give criticism for these behaviour’s. On one point, just because Mutsuki was the only self-proclaimed transgender character in the series, this doesn’t make a fictional character a representative of a certain group of people in the real world. Keep in mind that every character in Tokyo Ghoul was created by one man, Sui Ishida, and the story can be changed on a whim whenever he wants it to be. So with this in mind I feel that putting your faith in Ishida to portray one character in a certain way to suit your needs is basically setting yourself up for failure.

If certain plot decisions made by Sui Ishida have agitated you to such a great extent, then instead of becoming hateful towards an author for the way he writes his story, honestly the best thing you can do is drop the series without saying a word.

Ishida did not created Mutsuki to represent transgender people

Ishida created Mutsuki to represent the real nasty issues that occurs every day in the life of many desofortunated people all around the word, and how very person in Mutsuki´s life had a different and big impact on him. And all of this impacted in his decitions, like to be a man, to become an investigator, to become stronger, to start to been violent. Mutsuki is totally broken. But it NOT represent transgender people.

Transgender people must be represented for someone who love him/her self the way he/she is inside, true feelings and more. Mutsuki is just the opposite of that.

If you wanna drop the manga because it don´t suit the way you think about it, or how Ishida manages the characters, thats fine. Every history gonna have their flaws, but don´t blame IShida for something he isn´t, do not blame fans who think that Mutsuki just wanna be a man because of all what he been going in his life of something we aren´t. We do not hate transgender people just because Ishida, and some fans we really don´t consider Mutsuki a transgender character, he just was acting like he was transgender

I feel like the tumblr fandom shot itself in the foot because we couldn’t accept that our initial assumptions could have been incorrect because it fits our biases and what we as the reader want. We wanted transgender representation, but that is not what Ishida wrote about. So we cherry-picked the facts that supported what we wanted, while refusing to acknowledge the facts contradicting them, when we should’ve acknowledged all of it and have been willing to change our conclusion based on the information given.

“I want to be a bridge, telling ghouls how people feel and letting people know what ghouls think and feel. Because there’s nothing but hatred between the two groups now, but if each had an understanding of the other, I think that could change. Even if my presence is unwanted, I still want to be involved with both humans and ghouls.”

Happy Birthday, Kaneki! (20.12)
