Tumblr really is a masterful piece of engagement engineering. Like granted its sort of a captive audience desperate for a form of community and interaction like old forums or 2012-era internet, a disillusioned class of internet denizens who would rather live out of an aging storage unit than try to pack into a tiny hyper-modern studio apartment if you will, but what it does with that land-locked community is downright hilarious.
Just introducing a cat-flavored poke function even as a bit is stupidly genius and effortlessly spartan in a way that no other social media outlet has the nerve or aesthetic for. Half my dashboard is people talking about boops or posting memes about boops or just engaging with this new format of interaction in some fashion and it’s incredible to see. The way this has just created a new mode of engagement is just awesome to see and it’s something a lot of people like and enjoy.
Now we just need to sort out the whole deal with the staff nuking people of color without warning and permabanning trans people for no reason.
if there's one thing we can learn from this booping experience it's that we need to give people notes and interact with them for tumblr to be fun and thriving

Today is a big day on the Spanish internet. Valentine's day in Spanish is "día de San Valentín", which sounds almost the same as "Sam va lentín", which is how, in some parts of Spain , you would say "Sam goes slowly".
Hence, since a few years ago, every February 14th, the Spanish internet is full of "wait for me mr. Frodo" style memes. One of our holiest days of the year.

A bunch of people already have said this but the reason Israeli propaganda sucks so bad it’s because it’s not designed to convince anti zionists to become pro Israel, it’s designed for zionists to confirm the biases they already have.
Take for example the “40 beheaded babies” and “mass raping campaign” atrocity war propaganda. Those were not meant for the anti imperialists who know these tactics really well or even have a vague memory/knowledge of how this kind of propaganda was used to manufacture consent for the war in Iraq and the butchering of Lybia. It was meant for people with preconceived racist biases against arabs and muslims, to confirm them.

hey guys a movie theatre in my city cancelled a screening of a series of short films by palestinian directors due to pressure from a petition claiming to represent jewish montrealers who considered it antisemitic due to the title of the series being “from the river to the sea.” the montreal chapter of independent jewish voice canada is circulating their own petition to have the screening reinstated. they’re really close to their goal 2,500 signatures but are still a few hundred away. you can sign it here.
Same with black people in the Caribbean. I understand that there were black people who practiced Christianity prior to the Trans-Atlantic slave trade but let’s not pretend that it wasn’t also used as a tool to beat them into submission.
