POSSESSION

They say demons come only if they are invoked. It never ceases to amaze me how little time it takes them to transform into a puppet of my own play, falling for this illusion of control. Lips closed tightly are parted now, and the breath comes slowly while I'm moving through every bit of them, tracing their life in each vein, crawling through them like a spider. It felt so hollowed out inside, but not anymore, right, dear? That sort of fun can become deadly in a heartbeat, but who cares?

a few reminders because i’m tired and angry

  • fandom is a hobby, not a form of activism
  • adult women aren’t inherently creepy for being in fandom and having hobbies apart from raising babies and doing taxes
  • the vast majority of people pushing back against the worrying trend of instigating harassment over fictional characters and relationships aren’t incest supporters or pedophiles, actually
  • liking a m/f ship doesn’t make someone a dirty heterosexual invading your space
  • preferring gay ships doesn’t make you ‘’woke’’ and good
  • no one owes you a disclaimer that they are a good person who recognizes that their favorite fictional villain’s actions are evil and that they don’t condone those actions irl
  • liking a fictional villain is in no way comparable to advocating abuse/murder/genocide/etc and you’re a fucking idiot if you believe that
  • just because a woman is attracted to a fictional villain doesn’t mean she’s promoting toxic relationships or going to end up in a toxic relationship. assuming women can’t tell fiction and reality apart stinks of internalized misogyny
  • some rando’s a/b/o fanfics have none of the level of influence that popular tv shows and movies spreading propaganda have
  • no one owes you a detailed description of their traumas and mental health problems
  • abusive relationships are not the same as enemies to lovers ships
  • y’all need to chill the fuck out over people, relationships, actions and events that don’t actually exist and learn how to enjoy and discuss them like normal people
  • fandom is a hobby, not a form of activism

Obsessed with these templates by Haikounn so had to do two of them for Bunny and Victoire, my two OCs. Vastly different, both obsessed with Night City, parties and violence.

I might start talking more about them here or at my other tumblr but either way, I am enjoying finding out about all your OCs here!

Templates can be found at Halkounn's Ko-fi shop for free.

They are already selling data to midjourney, and it's very likely your work is already being used to train their models because you have to OPT OUT of this, not opt in. Very scummy of them to roll this out unannounced.

Avatar
writterings

here's some instructions for anyone who doesn't know how to opt out:

  1. login in on desktop, it's not available on mobile yet
  2. click "Account"
  3. click on your blog
  4. go to "Blog Settings"
  5. go to "Visibility"
  6. Scroll down to the bottom option
  7. turn the toggle ON, not off

you will have to do this individually for each sideblog you have too, no way to do it for each account in one go

It’s on mobile now:

1. Go to settings

2. Scroll down and click on visibility

3. It should be the bottom option, turn the toggle on

Go forth, protect your shit

this is as good a time as any to relink the texture i use on my art - open for anybody who'd like to use it. i slap this over my work on a simple overlay layer

the graininess and various scratches are generally troublesome to machine learning, since they rely so heavily on pattern recognition and color association.

compare the purple selection my computer manages on one color without the texture:

(the idea generally stays. you can make out most grass shapes, and many outlines)

to the same one with the texture :

(grass is highly abstracted, hard to tell when it truly ends, the pixels look less related to one another on the whole.)

either way it's there for y'all if you think you could get some use out of it.

Hi, Tumblr. It’s Tumblr. We’re working on some things that we want to share with you.

AI companies are acquiring content across the internet for a variety of purposes in all sorts of ways. There are currently very few regulations giving individuals control over how their content is used by AI platforms. Proposed regulations around the world, like the European Union’s AI Act, would give individuals more control over whether and how their content is utilized by this emerging technology. We support this right regardless of geographic location, so we’re releasing a toggle to opt out of sharing content from your public blogs with third parties, including AI platforms that use this content for model training. We’re also working with partners to ensure you have as much control as possible regarding what content is used.

Here are the important details:

  • We already discourage AI crawlers from gathering content from Tumblr and will continue to do so, save for those with which we partner.
  • We want to represent all of you on Tumblr and ensure that protections are in place for how your content is used. We are committed to making sure our partners respect those decisions.
  • To opt out of sharing your public blogs’ content with third parties, visit each of your public blogs’ blog settings via the web interface and toggle on the “Prevent third-party sharing” option.
  • For instructions on how to opt out using the latest version of the app, please visit this Help Center doc.
  • Please note: If you’ve already chosen to discourage search crawling of your blog in your settings, we’ve automatically enabled the “Prevent third-party sharing” option.

If you have concerns, please read through the Help Center doc linked above and contact us via Support if you still have questions.

sages mini ai guide for normal people who know fuckall about tech

for desktop users, it's under blog settings, then near the bottom, under "visibility". for mobile users, you're shit out of luck ig.

while I was at it, I decided to also scrub my blog of any older art. you can do this using the mass post editor. go back as far as you can and get to work. you can select 100 posts at a time.

pro tip: you can take a little shortcut by downloading your entire blog after you've scrubbed it of the old stuff. then you don't have to manually compress every single image you want to keep. it took tumblr like.. 3 hours to do this. let me know if the time differs for you tho. ill edit this post with the size of my downloaded archive when it's done.

edit: the zip was like 18gb. ive had my tumblr for nine years and I heavily pruned it beforehand, if it helps you put those numbers into a better perspective.

with your recent posts, you can also glaze and/or nightshade them. for my little mini-guide, let's download nightshade.

it'll take a while, so I'll just show you what the unzipped folder looks like.

the program's gonna be slow, especially if you don't have a graphics card/GPU. this is, sadly, pretty normal.

you CAN batch edit, but the program is slow and inefficient, so i haven't tested the feature very much. expect glazing and nightshading to take hours on most regular computers. just let your computer run while you do some other stuff. read a book. watch a movie. do chores. idk man. tech guys have GPU money and we don't so sometimes we have to wait for bullshit like this.

final note

until capitalism dies, tech startups will continue to evolve and produce new, exciting ways to milk us of every commodity we have and crush our freedom and creativity. nothing is sacred. you'll begin to feel a little more hopeful if you accept that the law will not protect you and you should defend yourself from this incoming tide. learn some tech stuff.

other edit: feel free to DM me or send me an ask with questions. im dead fucking serious about wanting EVERYONE to have tech knowledge and dead serious about it being accessible to everyone. if you dont wanna contact me through here for obvious tumblr related reasons, cecils@//tutanota.com

"It’s often unhealthy to hyper-analyze your sexuality to the point where how you experience it changes where you belong. This is why the idea that broader terms are somehow more restrictive is baffling. Continuously breaking labels down and creating terminology for each facet of one’s identity shrinks communities until it’s just one person convinced that they’re the only one who relates to their experiences. It isolates people and ignores the importance of individuality within a collective identity."

HOLY SHIT WHAT???

Since I can’t afford to sue DC, to force them to live up to the letter and the spirit of our long-time agreements; since even winning such a suit would take ridiculous amounts of money out of my pocket and years out of my life (I’m 67 years old, and don’t have the years to spare), I’ve decided to take a different approach, and fight them in a different arena, inspired by the principles of asymmetric warfare. The one thing in our contract the DC lawyers can’t contest, or reinterpret to their own benefit, is that I am the sole owner of the intellectual property. I can sell it or give it away to whomever I want. I chose to give it away to everyone. If I couldn’t prevent Fables from falling into bad hands, at least this is a way I can arrange that it also falls into many good hands. Since I truly believe there are still more good people in the world than bad ones, I count it as a form of victory.

Holy shit. In the section where he lists the reasons for doing this, he says there’s “too many things to list exhaustively” but goes on to list several of the more egregious offenses:

-Refusing to seek his opinion on artists for new stories, covers, formats, and the like; and when he repeatedly called them out on it they claimed that he was simply overlooked and “fell through the cracks.” They used this excuse so often that at one point he barred them from ever using it again.

-Reported his royalties late, and often under-reported them, meaning he had to jump through hoops to get the money he was rightfully owed

-When renegotiating the contract for new issues of Fables, DC tried to make the new issues “work for hire” - essentially, irrevocably transferring the Fables IP to DC. He didn’t agree and their excuse was they didn’t read his fucking contract going into negotiations and they thought DC owned the IP

-DC straight up told him that their interpretation of their contract with him was that they could do literally anything they wanted with the Fables IP. He states “They had no obligation whatsoever to protect the integrity and value of the IP, either from themselves, or from third parties…who want to radically alter the characters, settings, history and premises of the story.” Not only that, they insisted they didn’t owe him money for licensing the rights to Fables to third parties like Telltale Games!

-When they FINALLY agreed on backpay for said licenses to Telltale and other third parties they made a condition of this payment that it was a “consulting fee,” which avoided setting a precedent of admitting that he was ALWAYS owed the money. They also included a fucking NDA that meant he couldn’t say anything negative about Telltale or any other licenses.

So this is an outstanding move, but fuck DC.

I'm glad to see someone taking the time to point out the details of DC's fuckery. Most of the reactions I'm seeing to this are from people who clearly didn't actually read Willingham's Substack, so they boil down to either "wow, ballsy move!" or "Willingham's a serious asshole for (lists of legitimate problems with the man)." But there's very few scrutiny about this rare, candid peek at DC's shitty business practices, and how they--like Marvel--seek to screw over creators.

What I find particularly interesting was Willingham giving measured praise to his original team of editors and publishers. But once Dan DiDio took over, it was back to the usual sneaky shit that caused Alan Moore to sour on DC in the first place, not to mention creators going all the way back to DC's beginnings like Siegel, Shuster, and Finger. Now, with comics being little more than glorified content farms for WB/Disney, creators need recognition and protection for their work. They really need to finally unionize now, especially now or never, but I fear it'll never happen. But at least Willingham is... er... willing to kick the hornet's nest.

I may not like Willingham personally, nor his work (count me in with the chorus of people who preferred The Wolf Among Us to Fables, especially because I liked playing a kinder Bigby than his canon counterpart), but even though he's an asshole, I'm glad he's asshole enough to open up about this shit and take a stand. I just wish more people would be willing to look past the property and its problematic creator to the finer points of how the Big Two pulls shit like this all the time.

And that's especially important now that DC has responded with a "Nuh-uh, you can't do that, Fables is actually ours" statement, opening the door to an ugly sparring match that could put creators' rights in even more jeopardy. Or it may not go anywhere at all, since Willingham--despite writing one of DC's most popular and successful runs--can't even afford to sue. Which itself should fuckin' tell you something about how DC treats their creators!
