Suffer the Storm (Ereri Week)
(For the prompt “Storm”, I went for something a bit more metaphorical. I have been writing poetry for about a decade and it’s the main medium in which I work. Please let me know what you think, and I hope you enjoy!)
There once was a young man
He weathered the weather however he could
He wished for his friends not to die in vain
When his love stepped into his life
Their thunder announced his arrival
While his love swung and spun
He downed them all with blades aflame
And like lightning before a thunder roll
He struck them down to reach his goal
Ages later did they finally embrace
The young man an adult now, but still baby-faced
Windswept he was when they first kissed
Standing in the stables with a man he nearly missed
But the captain had promised to wait for him
And waiting was the thing he did
For promises are things to keep
And their climb to this point had been far too steep
So kiss they did, in the dying light of day
Surrounded by the breeze and the smell of fresh hay
Their first embrace in the captain’s quarters
Was to the sound of the pouring rain
Nature matched their passion
As they finally stripped bare
And when the young man gave his everything
To the man who saved his life
He threw back his head and cried to the skies
As his captain finally slid inside
There once was a young man
And he loved as hard as he battled
But that was many years ago
The man and his captain have now grown old
And the rain has calmed, the lightning gone
The thunder defeated, a thing of the past
But still they embrace as they did before
As they will until they breathe no more
The soldiers who were destined to see
The future together, forever they’ll be
