I have been thinking about this and ... I don't know? Is Brandon Sanderson ... stupid? I saw him explain on Reddit that he he needs to talk in detail about all his problems with the TV show, because his name is attached to it, so it reflects on him. I mean, seriously, he said this on Reddit, surrounded by comments shitting on the showrunner ... It's been two years, and I think it is fairly obvious that show haters/critics have singled out Rafe Judkins as the villain responsible for everything they dislike about the show. He gets blamed for everything, even the fucking pandemic itself. And Sanderson's role in this narrative is the wronged hero, the defender of True Fandom, sadly defeated by the evil gay manhating villain, who hates the books and the fans and maliciously ignores all of Sanderson's advice because he hates him personally because he is evil! (Rafe being gay is definitely one of the things that make him such a convenient target, and I have seen a ton of homophobia, including quite nasty stuff.) It's hard to believe that Sanderson has not picked up on this at all, that he doesn't know how negative comments from him would be perceived. It's been going on for two years ... It is baffling, irresponsible, and the timing is strange because the second season has been so well received: the finale has a 9.2 rating on IMDb, there are positive articles being written, people like it. Oh no, his name is attached to something people enjoy!?
If he cannot handle his name being on a product he does not 100% control, then he should not be involved in TV production at all, because no one has total control over the outcome. I feel sorry for the writers, who haven't been able to promote the show because of the strike, and are now probably too busy catching up with work on the third season ... And here's a producer spreading negativity and admitting he has not even bothered to watch Season 2! I am sorry but if any retail worker behaved this way, they'd probably get fired. It's unprofessional, not to mention disrespectful. Yes, there is a German word for this: Kollegenschwein.
(Disclaimer: I have not watched the livestream itself. Life is too short! But it's the Reddit comment that I'm complaining about. That I have read. He actually says a lot of reasonable things, but I cannot get over the "my name is on it waaah" part. So self-centered.)
