Update: after I reblogged this someone messaged me offering me tickets to the sold out Hausu screening with a Q&A and autograph session with the director

These never work for me, but here’s to trying.

  1. I don’t believe in these things
  2. But last time I reblogged one ten/fifteen minutes later I got a call offering me a job
  3. But I reblogged it because I was waiting on hearing back from the job. So there you go.
  4. Roger is cute.

Eh Roger is cute I might as well

My heart melted seeing the Lincoln Park zoo pride, the cubs are yearlings and already getting big, they grow up so fast😭. Lomelok just went through surgery yesterday to correct a slipped spinal disc. Plz send good vibes to Chicago! I think Lomelok is a testament to how excellent veterinary care is for zoo animals, in the wild he probably would’ve died before his first birthday as he started showing experiencing weakness in his hind legs and tired easily as a tiny cub. Just wanted to share.

Avatar

According to the zoo yesterday, he's out of surgery and doing well!

"The update we’ve all been waiting for with bated breath. Last night, around midnight, Lomelok fully stood up on his own for the first time! This is a huge milestone for his recovery but is one of the first literal and figurative steps in his journey. Afterward, he took a long 5-hour nap as the care team observed from nearby via camera so he could rest undisturbed.

Lomelok is currently recovering in a small space that controls the level of his activity during these critical first 72 hours."

The boys are back together!!

Lincoln Park posted the photos below along with this update on April 23:

"After successful reintroductions to Pesho, Sidai and Pilipili in their indoor space, Lomelok’s care and veterinary teams have made the decision to allow intermittent yard access for all four youngsters starting today.

Lomelok will continue to need rest days as he builds his endurance, so you will not always see the coalition of boys outside as his brothers may stay with him indoors as company. The animal care and veterinary teams will continue to monitor his progress as he continues on his journey."

Here's a great article about Lomelok's unprecedented spinal surgery, the reintroductions to his brothers, and the physical therapy routine the zoo has set up for him.

im noticing that for a lot of americans “free palestine” has been an ideological motto and symbol rather than them actually believing in their heart that freedom is attainable and necessary

palestinians deserve the right to be able to travel freely in our homeland. to even visit our homeland. for us to have citizenship and rights to our own country. to grow our plants. practice our religions. live without fear that our children can be kidnapped by israeli forces on their violent whims. to not have our life savings poured into building a home for our families that are torn down without real warning by israeli bulldozers. to no longer be refugees. like this is real life. this is real.

we don’t want to be reduced to a never ending slogan. we want to put down our need for resistance. to rest & to live.

I think the funniest thing about Animal Crossing is that everyone who's played Animal Crossing has beef with at least one villager

they're all just Little Guys™ but it doesn't matter, sometimes a mouse comes to your domain and fills you with primal rage

Mutual Aid for Disabled Couple

There's a lot that's happened, but I'll try to keep it brief this time. Basically, my spouse and I are both disabled and unable to work. We live on a single income (his disability) for the time being as I struggle and struggle to get accepted for my own disability payments. Starting at the end of last year, our home was transferred to a property management company. We owed back rent and they came after us hard. Despite payment plans, they have screwed us over time and again, added fines, didn't inform us of a court date, fined us for that, and just harrassed us every month with an eviction form. At our rate, if they don't kick us out, we should have everything paid by June at the latest.

Unfortunately, that means we have no money for anything else. We have no car, our phones are shut off for non-payment, and groceries are getting harder to come by as we can only order delivery.

I am doing emergency commissions, something you can see on @duessa but due to major health issues, my queue is rather backed up.

I feel like we've asked for a lot, and I loathe asking for more, but even a dollar or two can help us survive. We appreciate and love all the help and support we've received. Thank you, from the bottom of my aching heart.

P*ypal, v*nmo, and c*ashapp are all @ duessa.

Thank you again.

As a kid, when your parents are poor, you're poor. If they don't have money, that means none of you have money. But if someone's parents are rich, that doesn't necessarily mean the kid is. Sometimes rich peoples' kids aren't rich kids, they're just some rich freak's exotic pets that can talk but aren't allowed to.

That’s… not how class works

OK, so- my partner was adopted by a rich woman when he was a baby. She's from a prominent family, practically royalty where we're from. She certainly had the means to send him to fancy private school, give him good food, nice clothes/toys, premium healthcare... she chose not to. According to her he was lucky to be "adopted out of poverty" at all and should have been content with what she deigned to give him. And she reminded him of this constantly, all through his childhood.

She dangled the promise of uni in exchange for good behavior and good grades- with terms and conditions, of course. And filling her laundry list of demands was something like pulling teeth whilst jumping through hoops. In the end, did he get to go to uni? Of course not. (And certainly being queer/trans on top of it all did not help things whatsoever).

He cut her off after high school, and when I met him a year ago he had been working as (the equivalent of) an UberEats driver for a living for the last few years, including through the pandemic. (Sixteen hours a day for the equivalent of $6 (six) USD, not including the gas for his shitty rundown scooter; caught COVID twice, suffers from chronic fatigue to this day).

And to this day he still has to be selective about which of our ~leftist anarcho-commie~ friends he divulges this part of his background to- cos all they hear is "raised rich" and then suddenly he's not One of Them because "well teeeeechncially :^) you're from the oppressing class...". Like.... shit, man!

Social rules don't mean shit when it comes to abusive parents. Even rich ones.

Probably especially rich ones.

people are totally on board with the concept of "sufficiently rich people are above the law, and this is bad" but refuse to connect that to the concept of "this also includes laws that protect children from abuse and exploitation"

like we understand "the ruling classes get and maintain their wealth through cruel exploitation of those less powerful" and we can't wrap our heads around "a lifetime of this cruel and merciless behavior being valorized by your peers probably doesn't predispose you to suddenly changing gears once you have a helplessly dependent child that's totally under your control."

like yeah the rich are our enemies in this ongoing class war, absolutely, it's an Us or Them situation to save the planet. but if you don't give a shit about saving the enemy's children too, i don't think very highly of your motivation or your methods.

A fun fact: my mom was in the upper middle class as a teen/child. She moved out the day she turned eighteen bc her father was horribly abusive. she had NO ACCESS to the income her parents had.

But her parents' income was still counted when she tried to get help from the government for her college classes.

Financial abuse is a thing. Financial abuse is a thing people use against their KIDS TOO. like, someone can be the spouse of a rich person and not have ANY real access to that money bc their name isn't on anything and they're not given a card or money.

When I was in college, I lost count of how many people I knew on campus who had to drop out because their parents found out they were queer and withdrew financial support.

unfortunately no eclipse photography can ever outdo the waffle house one from 2017

i don't even know who took this pic. the only person who claims to know the photographer was this person who uploaded it to reddit without naming them. it just adds to the mystery of it

I know this photo!

This is a picture Nick Martino took outside a waffle house in Tennessee in 2017. It's still up on his Instagram page.

Finally a good fucking source
