Costume Party!

These minis are totally set for Halloween thanks to a few clever costumers. Over on Twitter, Lorenzosasso shared their grim-faced take on the Messenger of Courage, gothicly garbed and bloody eyed—brilliant! Preferring seductive to scary, Em [electriceve]'s  Easter Twilight Knight brings a bit of color to the masquerade, especially with bunny lantern glowing candy apple green! Incredible work!

Frightlight!

Not all lights keep away the ghoulies. Over on Twitter, GFFM’s Halloween White Speaker lantern seems custom designed to rile up souls this All Hallow’s Eve. A truly macabre display piece! Terrifying work! Taking the Stage

No one knows about getting into character better than the Lion Knight. And oh wow, did ISWAA go all out on Twitter, putting together one of the most incredible Lion Knight dioramas we’ve ever seen! Make sure you really take a good look at this one, the details in the added water and lanterns are truly something to behold!

Steel your heart, gentle reader. We know we’ve showcased many a terror amid these mailings, but none threatens more to unspool your your sanity and your heartstrings than Twist Gaming’s knitwork Infant Sunstalker! We definitely don’t want to leave this happy little rainbow-chucker in the Sacred Pool.

A Little Night(mare) Music

Want to make your Kingdom Death experience a bit more ominous? Have a particularly unsettling showdown planned? Want to really play up the horror in “nightmare horror?” Nothing helps like a little background music. What’s in a Name?

It’s so much easier to name your fifth survivor than it is your fiftieth. If you find yourself spending more time thinking about survivor names than actually playing with them, you might want to check out the Reddit Kingdom Death community’s “Favorite Survivor Names” thread. Aside from some great names, there’s a lot of interesting philosophies on how other players fill in generations of KD family trees. And, if that still doesn’t help you, maybe it’s time to bookmark the Fantasy Name Generators website.

New Flat Rate Shipping

To accommodate fulfillment costs from multiple warehouses and to start to smooth out shipping confusion we are introducing flat rate shipping by weight and region. This should be good news for most of our customers.

Kingdom Death at Gen Con 2018!

Boundless thanks to the amazing Kingdom Death community who made our fourth year at Gen Con our most exciting by far! This year we tackled more than ever before. You could tell right away from the expanded size of our booth, our packed demo area, and our life-sized Kingsman security guard!

Belle of the Ball

We had the opportunity to share a stunning sculpt with our fans. Feast your eyes on the endless detail of the Gambler.

Deadly Demos

Crowds also packed the demo tables all four days, swarming to be among the first to get a taste of the Black Knight and Screaming God expansions. We went all out for these demos, creating dozens of special pieces to bring the Black Knight's cloister and the Screaming God's stampede to life! Check out some video fan coverage of the Black Knight and Screaming God death-a-thons!

Our Fans Are the BEST

But the best part of the show for us is always the fans, especially those eager to share their awesome Kingdom Death projects! For some this was fan art and personal designs, for others it was showing off custom paint-jobs. But some of the most incredible projects came from the Kingdom Death cosplayers, like an entire hunting party of first-year survivors and Aranel (of Aranel Cosplay) with her 20-Year Savior, Necromancer, and other costumes! Completely jaw-dropping work!

Of course there was more: more run-ins with veteran fans, more new players wowed by their first games, more great interactions with folks excited for what's next. Gen Con's always a complete blur, but it's a weekend like no other. We might bring the game, but it's the players that bring the excitement and who keep the adrenaline running high all weekend long.

Many thanks to everyone who came and visited the Kingdom Death booth at Gen Con 2018! And if we missed you, don’t worry, we’ll definitely be back in Indy with even more Kingdom Death next year!

Slumbering Oblivion

Warchild40k aka James led us to making Kingdom Death in hard plastic. On behalf of myself and our team, I thank him for making that crucial connection for us when he did! James has been a voice of support for years and I am honored to present his personal project to the Kingdom Death community.

Slumbering Oblivion is James’s passion project, a vision inspired by H.P. Lovecraft that explores the unknown depths of Earth’s oceans.

Danny Cruz has lent the project his enormous talent, most if not all the concepts shown so far are his work! (Danny Cruz is the concept artist behind the Manhunter, Wet Nurse, and several other Kingdom Death monsters.)

Good luck with the project! Thanks again James!!!

An angry hide and a crown of weathered bone make painter Raught’s Dragon King among the fiercest we’ve ever seen! That furious red works just perfectly, and did you see the detail on those wing flaps? Seriously amazing work—though, I’d be surprised if you anyone’s brave enough to face it in battle!

What Stomps in the Deep

Check out New Meta Design’s dusky take on the Gorm! With its dead-leaf hide and aquarium-water eyes, it looks like they found this boy at the bottom of a lake. Further evidence that an appropriately moody palette can make an unsettling model all the creepier. Amazing work! We definitely want to see more unique color schemes like this! A Joyous Celebration

We’ve been watching sculptor Sam Bedingfield’s (@ratsclan) luminous Kingdom Death project evolve all month. At first, it looked like it might just be an elaborate base, but as soon as he started adding under-lighting and foliage it vered into a full-fledged decorative piece... which turns out to be for his upcoming wedding! Better With Age!

Base & Prime Studio has an illuminating take on the 1.5 Update’s Old Joe, modeling a tiny, working light into this veteran’s lantern. One Pristine Beetle

With all the incredible paint jobs we see on Kingdom Death models it’s easy for us to focus on the truly unusual projects. Still, there are definitely times where artistry alone catches our eyes, as was definitely the case with the Dung Beetle Knight from @fenpaints! Absolutely loving the detail on each carapace crack and wing freckle! And, if you’re not done being wowed, or need some inspiration for your own designs, check out more of Fen Paints’s Kingdom Death work on Instagram.

A Gorm Never Forgets

Look what @UpDogGames did to our baby-faced Gorm! Wrinkled and withered, ages of tromping and unrelenting Gorm Climate have really worn on our buddy here. It’s a take on one of KD’s more infamous monsters that borrows tones and stylings from the ancient Gorm found in the Gorm rulebook. We absolutely love seeing conversions like this, especially that focus on those elusive legendary monsters—so if you’ve got a Beast of Sorrow or Golden Eyed King of 1,000 Years in the works, let us know!!

Spotlight Survivors

If you’re looking for a short, specific lesson on Kingdom Death miniatures and painting light, then Mathieu Fontaine Miniature Art has you covered. Crystal Brush 2018 Awards

Organized by Cool Mini or Not and hosted at the Adepticon wargaming convention, the annual Crystal Brush awards celebrate excellence in miniatures artistry. Kingdom Death miniatures were well represented this year, featuring prominently among the winners of the Fantasy/Steampunk/Historical Single Miniatures category. Richard Eaton’s vivid Flower Knight—with its incredible cape—won first place, while Liz Beckley took second with her amazing Nightmares mini-scene, featuring the Pin-Up Nightmare Ram. Phenomenal work by both artists, and well deserved wins!

Snack Attack

Spotted on the Kingdom Death subreddit, u/Phylactory prepared some snacks(??) for their departing survivors. Although not usually consumable gear, these fecal salves are chocolate butterscotch puddings served with a smirk.

A Bright and Stormy Knight

The crew over at PaintCademy.com  recently shared their brilliantly ominous take on the Storm Knight. PaintCademy.com provides practical tutorials for minis painters of all skill levels, and this single figure certainly shows off the breadth of techniques they’re prepared to teach. Sometimes all it takes is a distinctive paint job to catch our eye here at KD Headquarters. Certainly, that’s part of what struck us about Paul Kleynhans (@sockmerchant) exceptionally well-dressed take on the Pariah. Pale and purple, with a hint of gold, it’s a striking color combo that’s great inspiration for all your fashion-forward nemeses.

A Kingdom Death Love Story

Perfectly timed for this romantic season, Alex Emmer shares a unique Kingdom Death artifact. You see, Alex proposed to his fiance last August... in the middle the Kingdom Death booth at Gen Con. To commemorate the happy occasion, Adam gave the couple a one-off, 3D-printed Lucky Charm. Alex has since passed the charm onto one of our favorite painters, Shoshie, who’s transformed the token into a one-of-a-kind treasure. Many thanks to Alex for sharing! Here’s hoping it grants the happy couple good fortune for years to come!

Our First Last Bard

It’s the season for fresh starts and new beginnings! Keeping in theme, we wanted to show off fresh takes on several newer KD minis. To start off, we’ve got @Atolm’s harmonious take on the Last Bard, a herald of the wildest changes. With its sonorous gristle and babbling boils, the Bard’s instrument promises a symphony like ever heard. Atolm’s malicious musician looks every bit as enthusiastically deadly as the music she’s sure to produce. Fantastic work, Atolm!

The Perfect Defense

Shoshie’s back at work with another relatively new model. This time around she took on the Paladin, a warrior whose faith literally armors her in the form of a massive, mystical shield. We’re absolutely loving the grim, golden spin on the Paladin’s massive shield, especially with its tears of crimson cloth. Truly divine work, Shoshie!

A New Class of Survivors

Jay Adan shares his work on the new survivors from the Kingdom Death: Monster 1.5 Update Box. The Old Survivor definitely looks like he’s seen it all, while the Young Survivor might not quite know what she’s in for. There’s some great storytelling in those stained and fresh outfits! Hope these give those of you kicking-off your 1.5 campaigns a few ideas!

Bits of Board KD Prologue

The crew at Bits of Board kicks off a new Kingdom Death playthrough on YouTube, working through the prologue fight with the White Lion. In addition to being a first-play, Bits of Board also provides a dramatic reading of the campaign’s introductory story. If you’ve ever wanted to start your KD campaign with a touch of gravitas, but you don’t have a radio announcer’s moody range, here’s a recording to help. At Kingdom Death headquarters it’s the coldest, darkest season of the year. Fortunately, our incredible community continues to create flickering bright spots in the long night. Next Season’s Lonely Tree It might be dark and chilly here, but it’s clearly spring for Timothy O’Connell and his vibrant take on the Lonely Tree! Bursting from the gray, broken ground, this almost tropical take on our massive mini makes it clear why survivors would be tempted close to its deadly boughs. If it’s a little warmer there, we’re tempted ourselves. Fantastic work! Those long hours really paid off!

Building Guide to the 1.5 Update Pack

For everyone who just got their 1.5 Update Pack and who’s getting ready to assemble the survivors and Gold Smoke Knight inside, Soshie’s ready to help! Community Project: Braille Accessible Kingdom Death

The community over on Reddit is tackling quite a challenge: creating a braille accessible series of spreadsheets to aid visually impaired in playing Kingdom Death. The work’s just started, so we wanted to give the project a bump here. If you’re interested in helping out, stop by the Braille Accessible KDM Conversation on Reddit.

Kickstarter Wave 1 Fulfillment Ending (Except for backers in Asia)

We are closing the chapter on Wave 1 fulfillment with one very well known caveat. If you are waiting for your Wave 1 in Asia please make sure to read below. Otherwise, foregoing shipping errors, address snafus, and returned packages, Wave 1 has arrived or is en route to backers and preorders alike! Adam's thoughts about this wave of fulfillment are thoroughly discussed in the latest kickstarter update for anyone interested in the details of the experience. This includes changes to future waves of fulfillment.

If you have no already been in touched with Dark Mediator about your pledge, please let us know by submitting a ticket to our support page. If you already submitted a ticket. We're on it, please be patient. As we've previously mentioned, we're reaching out to on an individual basis to chase down all of your concerns with our many fulfillment partners and shipping carriers.

Wave 1 - Asia

Fulfillment in Asia has been much slower to get rolling than we anticipated. We are working daily (nightly actually on account of the time difference) with our fulfillment partners to get things underway. We haven't forgotten you, long-suffering and patient bakcers and we hope to see some movement next week. If you have provided an address that includes non-english characters in backerkit, Dark Mediator is reaching out to get an english only address from you, our partners cannot accept non-english characters in their system. Another unanticipated wrinkle, still surprised by pitfalls despite our amassed experience.There is one ray of good news. The warehouse has received our goods and is unpacking and sorting your items as you read this!!

November is without a doubt our most insane month. This year, players around the world are setting off on new journeys with nothing but a founding stone and a lantern to light their way! We're so excited that we've decided to do an extra massive roundup of our growing community in our Kickstarter update. Players and hobbyists, returning or tackling their first White Lion are showcasing their amazing experiences online. Check out the complete community roundup in our latest kickstarter update. A painted Mountain Man is an elusive find but David Colwell's Award-Winning Mountain Man on Cool Mini or Not sets the bar pretty high and fires up the KD team as we steam into the Inverted Mountain development. Can't have this monster without his mountain—a feature Colwell works right in. Incredible work!

Kickstarter Wave 1 is Shipping!

We have begun the massive task of shipping Wave 1 to our Kickstarter backers. Backers that have confirmed their address and paid for shipping in backerkit are in process of getting their games. We are thrilled that some of our backers have received Wave 1, we ask that those of you that have not, continue to be patient as our fulfillment partners are working super hard to ship these monsters out the door.

Wave 1 - Status

So far we have shipped just over 15,000 packages worldwide. There has been a delay at the German Warehouse due to containers being held up at the port. And we are still working with our partner in Hong Kong that is handling fulfillment for backers in Asia. Fulfillment from those 2 centers should start soon. Fulfillment for every other part of the world is already underway!!!

Wave 1 Issues

If you have an issue with wave 1, please submit a ticket to our support. Limit your tickets to actual issues and not simple inquiries about shipping timetables, etc as this will allow our team to work more quickly and cut down on wait times. We are working as hard as we can to address your concerns!

As Halloween rolls around, it reminds us of being kids and staying up too late. With the late nights came belly aches from bags of candy and sore eyes from too many horror movies. Getting older, there might be a little less candy and earlier nights, but there's still a good amount of indulgence. It's freezing and brown leaves crunch underfoot, a man's thoughts turn to ghoulish fancies and CANDY! So many treats. Halloween is the holiday I wish I had more time for. To make costumes and throw outrageous parties. Now, I'm looking forward to costumes for my kid and candy comas we can share together once he's got enough teeth. In the meantime, we've prepared some treats and news for you guys.

Any late backer (that signed up via a later backer request) that does not fill out their survey will be removed from our system.
