May all appreciate these spiny children from. It took me two years to find these guys without a crumb of evidence, and suddenly they are all over the place! Even found a deceased adult in the area.
Pipevine swallowtails in their 5th instar, absolutely gigantic and fantastically colored. Soon they will make beautiful chrysalis and hopefully the season will be optimal enough for them to emerge this year.
At last I finished this beast. I have never loved painting water more than now after the joy of working on this piece. This was in trade for a lot of alcohol markers
The typical set up for a reference chart day. This was a surprisingly easy orekroark to work on.
Getting ready to paint a reference guide for the surfer orekroark. After a long long time of floundering over this one, finding a single shell on the beach is what solidified it's design.

Have a Chulia. I'm bored of doing everything else and haven't really looked at this guy for several years.
Chulia is one of those characters I've had from childhood. As with most childhood characters he's never been very balanced and I took him way more seriously than he deserves.
Now days he's a mystery critter and designed entirely around those horns. Fatherly figure to his space pirate goonies, war monger alongside his war mongering wifey, and avid protector of threatened planets.
A very different and unusual color variant possibility to the flag tail after I cleaned up some phenotype options that could appear in the species. Gone is the orange, the gray, the spots! What a freak.
Some more travel studies from my trip. Not a lot of time to sit and really get into the paintings, but that's perfectly ok. The speed is a good challenge.
