Cheers to everyone whose most relatable lyrics on folklore are “they told me all of my cages were mental so I got wasted like all my potential” and “look at this godforsaken mess” and “pulled the car off the road to the lookout, could’ve followed my fears all the way down” and “stood on the cliff side screaming ‘give me a reason’” I love you and I believe in you

the fact that she goes INSIDE her piano to find warmth and comfort....her gripping onto the piano in the middle of the water.....music was the one thing that was ALWAYS there for her

I think the tiniest little thing can change the course of your day, which can change the course of your year, which can change who you are.

I love how Taylor wrote a song about the story of her RI house.

“Rebekah West Harkness (April 17, 1915 – June 17, 1982) also known as Betty Harkness, was an American composer, sculptor, dance patron, and philanthropist who founded the Harkness Ballet. Her marriage to William Hale "Bill" Harkness, an attorney and heir to the Standard Oil fortune of William L. Harkness, made her one of the wealthiest women in America.”

This is a turning point in her career and that’s silly to say for someone on their 8th album but I can FEEL it. The sophistication in the songwriting. The storytelling. The soft poeticism. The way the lyrics drift so perfectly over the melodies. No one who listens to this can exit this album without saying she is the songwriter of this generation and knowing how important her writing ability is to her, that is so important.

“Most of the things I had planned this summer didn’t end up happening, but there is something I hadn’t planned on that DID happen. And that thing is my 8th studio album, folklore. I wrote and recorded this music in isolation but got to collaborate with some musical heroes of mine.”
