Disgusting viewpoint. Reminds me of releasing Keiko to “prove a point, even if he’s a terrible candidate for release”. It’s the point where principles and personal feelings are more important than the animal’s welfare, which I thought this was about.

Many anticaps wouldn’t care even if SeaWorld’s care made orca health and lifespan far exceeded that in the wild. They just want them out of there, because, well, principles. Animal rights. Not animal welfare.

I don’t have numbers on mother deaths either in captivity (could be done easily) or the wild (harder), but I have on calf mortality, and there, captive rates (especially SeaWorld’s) are far, far lower than in the wild.

So it doesn’t matter if the vast majority of calves survive, if one dies every once in a while (which they will always do, up to half of them do in the wild for no apparent reason), it’s “$laveWorld is evul!!!!111”
