“Despite Jack Nietzsche’s beautiful arrangements, they could sing their way right through a wall of sound. They didn’t need anything.”
- Keith Richards, inducting The Ronettes into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame
If Brian Wilson says this is the greatest pop record ever made, then it probably is. I agree with him completely. But the song wouldn’t be nearly as timeless and achingly beautiful if it wasn’t for one of the most amazing voices you can hope to hear bringing it to life. Ronnie Spector was just that, a once in a lifetime vocalist, and so much more than that: she had to endure a lot, but never lost her passion for singing and making music. What a sad day this is.

Yoko’s divorce really just finalizes in the middle of Oh! Darling
Ouch
As I finish watching The Beatles: Get Back, I start to look back at the Let it Be album with a much fonder feeling.
I've always been resistant to Phil Spector's version and I often listen to George Martin's Let it Be Naked because I thought that period of their careers was only filled with fights and disagreements. Of course there is still around 41 hours of recording but in these 9 hours we could see a band that very much loved to play together. But they also needed to let their own individuality run free.
I'm happy to know these songs were written and recorded in a much lighter setting than I thought. Even George, who used to complain about a lot of (rightfully so), seemed to be enjoying creating those songs.
Anyway, as painful and messy as their divorce was, I am happy to see they still had that love between each other. And the rest... Well, we know how they feel and felt about each other.
