Medical Advocacy

My dad's knee replacement surgery did not go as planned. Right before taking him into the operating room his morning labs came back showing a critically low potassium level. They cancelled the surgery and we spent the next 5-6 hours in the ER with Dad on a Potassium and Magnesium drip. He did everything they told him to do for prep and was cleared by the cardiologist. This was a medication fuck up on his doctor's end. Once dad was released we called to schedule a follow up appointment post hospital visit and his doctor's office told me they couldn't get him in until the end of the month. I called back later and talked with the care coordinator, getting him in the next day. All they did was increase his potassium and have repeat labs drawn this next week. Y'all I am so frustrated. A hospitalist was supposed to stop by and check the meds and didn't. His doctor's office didn't go over the meds. Ughhhhh!!!!!

I'll have to call again for an appointment to go over the meds in detail that caused the unstable drop in just 2 days time!!! We have to get this all sorted before we even talk about rescheduling his knee replacement surgery.
