Hi pals! I know I've not posted her in yonks, but really would love some last minute support. I'm heading to Chile tomorrow for a cultural exchange program to visit a number of Mapuche communities. I've got most things I need, but am still struggling to raise the funds for essentials on my trip. If you can spare anything to donate, I'd be super appreciative. But of course, a share is just as helpful too! If you're more comfortable with a PayPal transaction, my email is: yarramun.conole@hotmail and I am also open to bank transfer. But above all, sharing this link would be great too! The more views, the more people who know about this impactful exchange and the more chance I have of reaching my fundraising goal. Thank-you all for the love and support you've shown in the past. I wouldn't be where I am today without you all. ❤

At Unimelb watching Angela Davis present a lecture. Hopefully this is recorded because it's incredibly powerful and moving!

When you put on a costume like this you are dehumanizing a culture. You are showing that my traditional clothing is something you can take without context, without any background knowledge and wear because it’s pretty or feels aesthetically pleasing. What you’re actually doing is taking a culture that historically goes back thousands of years and sexualizing and dehumanizing if until it is nothing more than a $20 costume hanging beside a Spider-Man costume.

I urge everyone to take a look around yourself, observe the culture and diversity around you, in your classroom, on the bus sitting next to you, in line behind you at the checkout. Look at these strangers and know that they are more than just a body. Everyone has a culture. Everyone has a background. Everyone deserves respect and honour.

We are not a costume.

One thing that hasn't changed in the time I've been away... I'm still up at ungodly hours hahaha.

hey lovely! do you have a paypal account I can send money to for your unigames fund?

Hello there! Yes, I do! I can private message it to you if you'd like? Thank-you so so much honestly.

Hey there, I just found this blog and thought it was really interesting! I've had a big read through, and wanted to ask about something I'm curious about. I'm non - POC, but my father is Torres Strait, and my great - great grandmother on my mother's side was Aboriginal. Does that still make me an Aboriginal/Torres Strait individual, despite being white, or not?

If you have Aboriginal ancestry on your mother's side then you're definitely mob. And do you mean that your father lives in the Torres Strait but he's white?

Hey lovely people!

I know I haven’t posted in quite some time, but I’m back now! I had a really traumatic first half of the year and have seriously needed time away from the blog.

Recently I was given the opportunity to attend Australian University Games to compete in women’s softball in Perth. Softball is one of my biggest passions in life and is a major aspect of my healing and path to recovery. The cost of it all is quite staggering for a first year university student like myself and I really need some help pooling the money together so I can compete.

I’ve been fund raising for a few weeks now but still haven’t quite reached my target. I leave for the games this Sunday and I know it’s a bit ambitious to try and raise it all before then, but any amount that you can donate will help me immensely.

Please share this link around and donate if you’re in a position to, it’d mean the world to me.

Thank-you all so much and much love,

Yaz. xo

gotta say the thing about aborginal australians being counted as animals is false. "Not being counted properly in the census all those years has fed into the misunderstanding that Aboriginal people were classified as fauna until the '67 referendum."

honestly from what i see i wouldnt be surprised if they were considered as animals. But then who knows, that doesnt make the whole thing any less horrifying. Thank you for sending this! I love learning new things!

Right. There was no official laws or legislation that counted us as animals/as flora and fauna, but the laws and legislation that regulated every part of our lives til 1967 essentially rendered us to being treated and regarded as animals. It wasn’t until the 1967 referendum that things began to change and we were seen as people. As human beings.

Mau Power - Freedom Feat. Archie Roach

This song is an inspirational anthem that gives the audience a great feeling of hope when listening to it. The song represents a local yet is a universal story of freedom from mental slavery.  It is a ‘protest’ song that manages to embrace and welcome all listeners to walk with Uncle Archie and Mau Power on the road to unity. A modern sound that resonates with an ancient soul, its inspirational lyrics create a want for a better future and a belief that it can and will be obtained.

Such a powerful song.

Still feeling this song in 2016. Gives me so much strength!
