"You think this is a game?!”

"Of course not!" Rose fought back. "I was just trying to help."

"I don’t need your help," he shot back bitterly at her. "I didn’t ask for you to come back, you…

"You think I left on my own free will?" She started quietly. "Is that what you told yourself every night you found yourself alone? Is that what you’re going to keep telling yourself?! After everyone leaves you! You selfish, rude, arrogant, pompous idiot!"

"…when you left, I…I did things I wasn’t proud of. I went wrong. I hurt people. People died, Rose. Because I was too weak. Just like I was too weak to save you."

"Sometimes…I’d see or hear you, but you wouldn’t actually be there. I couldn’t sleep, barely ate. It got so bad that…eventually…I couldn’t tell what was right or real anymore…"

"So if you think that for one second I took your leaving lightly, then, I assure you, you’re dead wrong."

Rose fell silent at his words. He wasn’t the only one who felt that way after they were separated. She had had trouble functioning. She couldn’t sleep, wouldn’t eat. When she did manage to get some sleep it was interrupted by dreams that had her waking up sobbing. It took a long time to be okay.

"You’re not the only one who suffered," she murmured. "I came back to find you, and…"

Rose looked away.

"You don’t… I suppose this isn’t what I was expecting. I can go if I’m so much trouble."

He sighed ruefully. “…no. Don’t. Please…I…I am sorry, Rose…forgive me…I just…I know I’ve been acting different lately…it’s just…well…nothing’s been the same since Trenzalore…since I regenerated…more and more memories are coming back everyday…memories of blood and fire, death and war…I simply fear that the more I remember of what I did during the battle, the less I’ll want to…”

Rose looked up at him with questions written all over her face. What was Trenzalore? How many times had he regenerated? She grasped his hand with her own.

"The less you’ll want to what?" She asked, quietly.

"…remember. It’s like the Time War all over again, but…Rassilon help me…worse…that’s all I can remember for the most part. But whatever happened on Trenzalore, Rose, I’ve a feeling it isn’t through for me quite yet…"

Rose stared at him aghast. Trenzalore…worst than the Time War. What had happened there? What had the Doctor been through? Was there anyone traveling with him?

The blonde did the only thing she could think of. Her arms wrapped around him in a tight embrace. This was the Doctor. Her Doctor. And, she still wanted him safe.

"Whatever happens. Whatever passed… You are never truly alone. Now, what can I do to help?"

"Stay." The Doctor whispered, holding her in a gentle embrace. "If that’s alright…please don’t go."

Rose relaxed in his embrace and let herself enjoy the moment. It had been so long.

"Of course I'll stay," she murmured. "You are my home."

Rose continued looking straight ahead listening to her daughter’s words.

"I’m sorry you had to see that," she said, calmly.

Robin shook her head. “Mum.” She didn’t feel the tears rolling down her face as she looked up at her mother. “Why?” Her mother – Her hero – did something so terrible and almost unforgivable.

Rose clenched her jaw as she saw her daughter look at her differently. She was crying because of what she had done. Something she did in a blind panic. She panicked and lost control.

"Robin..." She tried to continue but the name trailed off.

His companion grinned up at him with thought of exploration running rampant through her head.

"Have I ever told you how fantastic you are?" She beamed.

"Always nice to hear," he smirked. "Now then!...

Rose left his side to sneak a bit farther ahead. She made it passed the gate and peeked around the corner. She frowned back at the Doctor when she didn't see anyone.

"Yeah…" he murmured. "Something’s not right here. We should probably just … go." He grinned suddenly. Of course they wouldn’t leave. It wasn’t in his nature. Though if Rose really wanted to, he probably would.

Rose glanced up at him incredulously. Was he seriously suggesting they leave. But then she saw his grin. Leaning into his arm, she bumped him softly.

"Nope. I'm up for an adventure."

Rose was pulled to her feet. How could she look her daughter in the eye. How could she explain this to her? To the Doctor? It was an accident, but she had just murdered a mob of people.

"Let’s go."

Robin held her mom’s hand with her own shaking one and lead her out of the...

Rose lingered in the doorway and tried to focus on him in the dim lit room. She chewed on her bottom lip unsure of how to continue. Until he posed a question.

"No," she shook her head letting blonde tendrils rock against her face. "I couldn’t sleep."

Could she tell the…

Rose felt herself being led to the seat in the room. After being sat down, the blonde leaned into his touch letting out a sleepy sound of content. She always did get comfort from people playing with her hair.

"I-" she cut herself off not really knowing where to start. Things could have turned out so much worse. "Chantal… She… She dissected you."

She could feel her eyes start to water.

Rose frowned as she noticed the same thing. The compound was wide open letting anyone just walk in. Maybe they wouldn't need the psychic paper right away.

"Doctor, shouldn't a weapons factory be at least somewhat guarded?"

The gold hue left her eyes abruptly at the those words. A cold-blooded killer? But she wasn’t. She was just protecting them. She looked around and saw the massacre laid out before her. Yes. Massacre was the only word for it.

"I didn’t… I wasn’t…" Her words fell short. She…

Rose came to as Robin finished talking her down. She steeled herself for the time being. Turning from the bodies, the blonde stared at the girl.

"You’re right. We need to leave. We need to find the Doctor."

Robin crouched down next to her mother and grabber her hand. “Yeah, mum.” She meant to say more but instead her voice quietly trailed off. She stood again, trying to lead Rose up to her feet. “We need to go now.”

Rose was pulled to her feet. How could she look her daughter in the eye. How could she explain this to her? To the Doctor? It was an accident, but she had just murdered a mob of people.

"There is always another way. It may not be the easiest or the most ideal, but options are available," Rose argued. "Doctor, look at me. Please."

The Time Lord took a deep breath, his hand still pressing the gun tight. Slowly and relectantly, his eyes travelled to hers. He didn’t say a word. It was all it needed for the tears to show up again, and the Doctor didn’t want that.

Rose gave his empty hand a squeeze. Catching his eyes, she smiled at him with watery eyes.

"We can get through this together. We always do."

He couldn’t hold the tears anymore. They ran down his face as his hand held hers as tight as he could.

"I just.. I need to protect you, Rose. I won’t stand seeing they taking you away from me. I won’t- You’re everything I have.”

Rose reached up with her other hand to cup his cheek uncertainly. She wanted to give him whatever comfort she could.

"There's a flaw with your original plan then? You'd lose me sooner. And, I don't want to leave you. I need you, too."

Rose’s eyes flew opened at his statement. She made her way to him somehow sidestepping the gun to hold his lapels.

"Don’t you dare!"

By the time she got closer him, the arm that was holding the gun fell at his side. The Doctor shook his head and tried to avoid her eyes.

"There is no other way. And, as you said, I’m not able to live with your blood in my hands."

"There is always another way. It may not be the easiest or the most ideal, but options are available," Rose argued. "Doctor, look at me. Please."

Rose waited for the TARDIS to land before making her way to the door. She turned back to the Doctor.

"Are we there?" She grinned.

"Yep," the Doctor said, popping the p. He beamed, leaning against the console and gesturing to where she was at the…

The Doctor frowned and walked to the door, peering out over Rose’s shoulder. “Ah,” he said. He checked his watch. “Definitely Villengard … the, erm. Factories of Villengard.”

Rose chewed on her bottom lip as she leaned back to look at him. She wanted to go and look around.

"So, can we still visit?"

"If ya like," the Doctor replied. He checked his watch again, frowning, then shrugged. "We can take a look around, then hop forward into the future with the banana groves."

"Come on then," Rose tugged on his arm pulling him out the TARDIS. "Places to see. Factories to sort out."

"Alright, I’m coming," the Doctor laughed, taking a second to make sure the TARDIS door was closed. Then e let himself be pulled along by his companion. "Not very cheery, is it?"

"Could be worse?" Rose observed. "Do you think they’ll let is look around?"

She started trudging down the road towards the looming building.

“‘course they will,” he said brightly. He patted his jacket pocket, flashing her a grin. “Have my handy-dandy slightly psychic paper!”

His companion grinned up at him with thought of exploration running rampant through her head.
