This is an exchange between Professor Emanoil Theodorescu of York University and a student in Burma:

For the record, I can back up the student’s claims of an Internet blackout because it’s still ongoing (home wifi is still a thing, but the connectivity’s so so shitty). The only thing I have to correct is their claim that almost 200 protesters have been shot — it’s over 200 by now.

But back to the main point. I wish I could say that I’m surprised, but York University has a problematic history when it comes to Burma (see: Dr Merle Jacobs’s assessment of the Rohingya crisis), and so this is just another one to add to the rubbish heap, y’know.

York University has put out a statement, but last I checked, the student has not received an apology from the professor and nothing has been done to accommodate them.

can not believe that a 70 year old senator actually uttered the phrase “ignorant slut” about bernie sanders on the senate floor.

So what actually happened was senator Kennedy said to Neera Tandem, “you basically called Bernie Sanders everything but an ignorant slut”

Which apparently is a reference to a SNL sketch from 1970s, which is odd but also not completely batshit crazy

But what is crazy is that senator Lindsey Graham in the background, who was not actively part of the conversation, then interrupting to respond with “well I wouldn’t say ignorant”

So whilst technically no senator referred to Bernie Sanders as an “ignorant slut”, senator Lindsey Graham did state quite firmly that he is in fact a slut, just a very knowledgable one
