Mmm this is good and it struck me. It reminded me of something I've been working on with my middle school track athletes. I'll have them do something seemingly strange. I'm trying to break down a skill into an exaggerated movement so they can practice that part of the skill. And they'll eventually try it and say "It feels weird or it's not working or I'm not good at it". My go to is compare the amount of time they've been practicing the skill to a baby.

I.e. how long have you been practicing high jump? Maybe two hours? Are two year old babies good at anything? No, then give yourself a break. You don't know if you'll be good at something yet, let's keep trying.
